Allright Miami. Momentum is magical and can turn a season around and make it watchable and hopefully a fun rest of season
First, the Dolphins had been 13/13 in goal to go to that point in the season. Second, if they don't make it, the game is tied and Washington has to start at it's two to get in FG range with little time and not time outs. If they kick the FG, the Washington ends up starting at probably somewhere from their 25-35 yard line to get in FG to tie it. Third, they were 3-7! Why not go for it? Fourth, about Tua's INTs and him not "taking care of the football." 5 of his INT this season have come on plays exactly like the two he threw in this game. 3rd and long, inside their own 40. Tua throws the ball high and deep. Basically arm punts. This is not some situatuation where Tua doesn't understand the about turnovers or thinks he sees an opening or is panicking. This is a designed play that McDaniel has instructed Tua to make if in that situation, Waddle (and only Waddle) is getting a specific type of coverage. Both of those ended up being basically 40 yard punts. An incomplete or INT with a 40 yard field position exchange are neutral outcomes that can come from that play. But McDaniel puts forward two positive outcomes could come. Waddle could come down with it, or there could be a DPI call. The chance of either of those happening outweighs the additional 10 yards you might set the opposing team back on a punt. And 5th, Oh yeah, they won.
