Whodat nation! ⚜️

Can someone please explain to me why this fanbase has become so toxic, pesemistic, and negative?

Over the past few years, I noticed this fanbase has become massively more toxic. It's gotten so bad that the comment section of Charity, Birthday, Retirement post are filled with negativity and straight d-bag comments.
While, I understand everything hasn't been rainbows and butterflies since Drew retired, it's honestly disappointing to see the downhill turn this fanbase has become.

I love this team, love the players, and I thought I loved the fanbase but it hurts my heart when I open the comments to write "Happy Birthday Cam Jordan" and the first comment is "you're fking trash and old, it's time to retire", or things like that. 😭

Is this the culture of the city? Or is this unfortunately the result of a bunch of new generation "fans"?

  1. The fan base isn’t toxic. Social media and Reddit are toxic. Saints fans on this sub Represents 5% of the actual fan base. It’s an echo chamber. It’s not reality.

  2. So many fans, particularly younger ones, are spoiled from having Drew and Sean for 15 and 16 years. It’s so hard to just turn around and rebuild after having HOFers leading the charge for so long.

  3. “This fan base is so toxic” – guy that’s actively being toxic towards the city and fans

  4. I have been a fan long enough that “toxic” wasn’t an adjective towards fans. Yeah, I hate shitty years, but I will still pull for them every game. Social media brings out the fans that started around the Brees era and don’t know real pain.

    Hmm….wonder why that’s happened…

  6. You can find the same type of comments in every single fan base in the NFL (or any other sport too lol)

  7. I remember after the Minneapolis Miracle ppl were disappointed but not really angry at Williams. They understood he was part of the reason we were winning that game in the first place. I don’t think we’re any more toxic than any other fan base.

  8. I mean at this point I want to tank for draft consideration, so I don’t think a win is much to celebrate even if it feels good in the moment.

  9. Idk man, these are poor examples. We signed cooks for absolutely nothing, and as far as beating Carolina, saints fans are too traumatized to get their hopes up, they want to see them put together more than 1 win to get excited.

  10. It’s because a huge portion of the fanbase have their own idea of what they want. They don’t want to give someone who is qualified to be the HC the benefit of the doubt because they are so stupid that they believe they’re smarter than the coach and GM.
It’s because being a Saints’ fan is the only place they get to feel like they have some control over something. They are miserable in their lives. They don’t have any power in their job or at their home. Their woman rules them with an iron fist. They are losers, so the toxicity of their lives spills over into their fandom. Most everyone who was decent left New Orleans by now.

  11. 1 we having been to the playoffs since I believe 2020 2 we having been to the playoffs since
3 we having been to the playoffs
