The Pelicans Have Hit ROCK BOTTOM
Yo, what’s going on y’all? It’s Con and the Pelicans have hit rock bottom. This is the lowest point for the franchise since they brought in Zion Williamson and before him they had Anthony Davis. So, this is the lowest point the franchise has had in quite some time and it doesn’t feel like it’s getting better anytime soon. Today was announced that they’re firing Willie Green, which ultimately I don’t think is that bad of a decision. I don’t think Willie Green’s been that great as their head coach. Uh bringing in James Bgo, we’ll see what he’s able to do. At the very minimum, a shakeup should bring a little bit of new energy to this team, but it’s not going to change much. It’s just not a good roster. They’re a bottom five defense, a bottom five offense, one of the worst net ratings, and they’re sitting at 2 and 10 in the Western Conference, last place. The only teams they’re ahead of are the Nets, Wizards, and Pacers, who are off to 1 and 11 starts. And those are all historically bad starts for teams. The Pelicans are right there in that conversation. They have been abysmal in every way after they tried to shake up this roster. You know, they dealt TJ McCullum away for Jordan P. They were like, “Hey, we can highlight Trey Murphy a little bit more.” They trade away Brandon Ingram last year at the deadline. Eve Mei, of course, had a decent rookie season. It felt like this Pelican team wasn’t going to be good, but that they could be at least kind of fun, at least somewhat decent, maybe pushed for the play, and if everything really breaks their way, I have Herb Jones out there, too. like there are good players on this roster, but it’s just talent that doesn’t work together. It doesn’t make sense. Especially when Zion can’t stay on the court, which is of course been the story of Zion’s career. He came into training camp and he was a little bit skinnier, more in shape, and it felt like, hey, you know, maybe this is the season. Of course, you know, Zion, you never really think that, but it’s like maybe this is the season where Zion’s able to somewhat reliably stay out there, be healthy, be in shape, and the Pelicans are more competitive than a lot of us think. Turns out it’s not the case. He’s missed the last five or six games with a hamstring injury. And even when he’s been out there, like he’s been good, but he’s not been the dominant Zion that we saw at a lot of points last season and of course earlier on in his career. A guy that was able to like make an all-star game if he only played 15 times because he was that good in those games. Like Jordan P who came in had a big bounceback season last year. He’s not been as good this season. Trey Murphy started off really slow. He’s kind of getting it going again now, but it doesn’t really matter at the moment because nothing else is going for them. Uh it’s just been abysmal. They suck. They’re terrible. And I don’t think firing Willie Green is going to fix that. And it’s reached the point where a roster blow up is eminent. They’ve got to go ahead and rebuild this thing, which sucks because it really felt perfect for them when they went from Anthony Davis, who of course led them to, you know, playoff series win. Uh they made the playoffs a couple of times and he was one of the best in the world, but he asked out and immediately, not almost immediately, but immediately, they get the number one overall pick in the draft to get Zion Williamson. It felt too perfect. It felt poetic. They deal away Anthony Davis to the Lakers for this big trade package, this Hall where they bring in guys like Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart. So now they’ve got this great group of young guys next to Zion. You’ve still got a guy like Drew Holiday. It felt like the perfect situation for the Pelicans. You go from one era to a new one. And if Zion is the guy that it feels like he can be, it was called the Zion Williamson draft. It was titled that. then you you can be back to relevancy in two to three years and still have these picks from the Lakers going forward. Like they felt like they were in such a good spot leaving the 2019 draft and it’s come to nothing. They’ve made the playoffs twice. They won I think one playoff game over the course of that time and that was Brandon Ingram going crazy against the one seated Phoenix Suns. They played the Thunder a couple years ago. They got swept and not in a single one of those playoff games has Zion Williamson played. the injury stuff that you know there was concern with when he came into the draft has been extremely real. He has been unable to stay on the court even when he comes into a season like this and he’s in shape you looking he looked the best he had looked since Duke still unable to stay out there and hopefully this is just a blip on the radar and the rest of the season when he gets the hamstring back uh is a lot healthier for Z. But I just don’t think it’s going to go that way. We’ve said that over and over again. It’s just not going to happen. And if Zion’s not on the court, this team is going nowhere. Even with Zion out there, it’s just not that talented of a team. They brought in DeJonte Murray, a trade that I really didn’t like. And of course, he had a season ending injury last year. It sounds like he’s going to be back at some point this season, but I don’t expect him off a year of not playing basketball to make some type of big impact and turn this season around. It’s not going to happen. And also, that of course diminishes his trade value, of which I really don’t even think he had that much in the first place. When we’re talking about DeJonte Murray, one of the biggest reasons why the Pelicans are kind of in a tough spot right now is because they gave up Dyson Daniels in that trade, who has become one of the best defenders in the sport, top three in deep last season. Something they could really use over here on this roster. But also a different trade that they made with the Atlanta Hawks in this past year’s draft. And y’all know the trade I’m talking about when they moved up about 10 spots, giving away their unprotected first round pick swap, either theirs or the Bucks. And you know, the Bucks have been decent so far. But that was still at the point where Giannis trade rumors were flying around and never mind the Pelicans who were terrible last season. They gave up their own unprotected pick swap to the Hawks to move up and select Derrick Queen. And credit to Derk Queen. He’s been pretty good so far this season. I’ve liked a lot of what I’ve seen. He should be starting every game going forward for them because they need him to develop and look as good as he could possibly be so that this trade doesn’t feel as bad because that unprotected pick swap. Again, the Pelicans are two and 10. They’re terrible. They’re going to be the worst team in the Western Conference this season. Maybe they pass like a Utah, but even Utah has been actually pretty competent so far this year. Not good, not great, but competent. The Pelicans have not been that. So, currently they are going to give the Hawks the fourth overall pick. And we know how the draft works. That could very easily end up number one, number two, number three. If the Pelicans keep losing like this and the Pacers get a little bit of rhythm back a couple guys healthier, that could be a top three pick in this upcoming draft. A draft that is headlined by AJ Debansa, Darren Peterson, Cam Boozer. These are three guys who are all looked at as franchise game changer type players. And I’m not saying Derk Queen can’t be that. Maybe he can get there, but he’s definitely not the level of prospect that these three are. And I can’t help but think there must have been a lesser cost you could have paid to move up and get Derrick Queen. I refuse to believe you had to give up one of the most valuable assets draftwise in all of the NBA to move up 10 spots. Not like go from like 11 to one, but go from the early 20s to the early teens. I just don’t believe you had to do that. In an ideal world, they wouldn’t have done that. they’d still be this bad and they’d be like, “Okay, we can go ahead and just tear this thing down and rebuild, get one of those top prospects and either, you know, try to keep Zion and see if that top guy can play alongside him if he gets healthy or deal Zion away the second he gets trade value, which right now I don’t know how much trade value he actually has, which is another big concern. But like you could have dealt him away and then you immediately have the same situation you had with Anthony Davis. You dealt away AD, the guy that was your star of the era. You bring in Zion, he becomes the new star of the era, even though it doesn’t really work that way. But now you get like one of these top three guys to now build around and be the new guy. You just have another transitional potential franchise player to bring in and build around, get fans excited about. You could still keep like a Trey Murphy who’s relatively young. Uh Eve Mei, if you moved up and got Derrick Queen and didn’t give up that huge asset, you could still have him as well. There there are pieces that you can deal and get real capital back for. Like I’m sure a team would throw you a first and some change for Herb Jones. Maybe even a couple of first for the type of defender that he is because I think in a winning environment, he’d be a lot more impactful than he’s able to be here here in New Orleans where he has literally no defensive help. So that’s an ideal world, but they don’t have that. Instead, they are terrible. Zan can’t stay on the court. Who knows what Dejonte Murray is going to look like? Jordan Pool is playing really poorly, so his trade value is tanking after he had at least a little bit. The Wizards were able to deal him for CJ McCullum this off season. Almost everything here is just bad. Firing Willie Green is not going to fix this team. Is it going to help them a little bit? Maybe. And I mean, they’ve got no incentive to lose, I guess. But it it’s it also reaches a point where like say at this deadline, Trey Murphy’s been playing well over the second half of the season and Zion gets a little bit healthier and he’s helping you win a few games here and there. I mean, you I think you’ve got to prioritize trade value. I’m not saying you have to deal away like a Trey Murphy, but Zion especially, I think if he gets any value back and there’s a team interested, just go ahead and take that route out. You have to. You don’t really have a choice at this point because who knows what Zion’s gonna look like next season. I’m sure that we’ve reached a point where I’m honestly shocked Zion hasn’t asked out. I’m sure that’s coming at some point soon if things keep progressing this way. It has been an absolute nightmare. It is the worst way that the Zion Williamson era could have gone. Uh it’s a disaster. They’ve hit rock bottom in a new way over there in New Orleans. So yeah, those are my thoughts on the Pelicans. Let me know down below in the comments uh what your thoughts are, where you think they should go, how they should rebuild, should they wait because obviously they don’t have their pick. Should they just go ahead and pull the band-aid off? You know, don’t fall into the sun cost fallacy. Take advantage of any trade value you have at the moment because I do think like Herb, Trey, Zion, these guys could get you some type of stuff back to help with the rebuild. Um but yeah, leave a like and subscribe if you enjoyed. Hit the notification bell so you don’t miss out on future videos. I appreciate youall. I’ll see youall later. Everyone say back.
The New Orleans Pelicans just fired Willie Green and are in one of the worst positions in the entire NBA. Zion Williamson can’t stay healthy, Jordan Poole has been bad, they dealt Brandon Ingram who has been good for the Raptors, and they got rid of their own first round pick giving it to the Atlanta Hawks for Derik Queen, a pick that could be top 3 in this NBA draft. It’s an absolute disaster and it might get worse.

Zion is sadly, damaged goods. People have been saying this for awhile since the press release at the beginning at the year when he showed all the weight he lost.
I don’t think they can tank cause idiot Joe dumars traded their first round pick
AJ Dybantsa in the Hawks jersey possibly next year is actually insane 😂. I’m sure Hawks fans are enjoying how incompetent the Pelicans are
They will immediately begin playing better. Willie was a huge issue.
Firing Willie was a good thing we hit rock bottom 2 weeks ago when we were 0-6.
In other news, now is the best time to be a Hawks fan (me)!
The lakers came out winners 2 fold with the AD trade. 1 it got them a title year one. (The covid title counts to me if it doesn't neither does the Braves world series title or the bucs superbowl win). Then AD gets flipped somehow for prime luka.
Pelicans Have The Pieces, Now That They Fired Willie Green Hopefully Things Will turn Around, Some Of Their Losses Have Been Close Like The Clippers Grizzlies & Spurs OT Game All Were Winnable, They Haven’t Had Zion & Poole The Last Week, Plus Two Seasons Ago This Team Won 49 Games With Almost The Same Roster So It’s Not Like Their Not Capable, Fears And Queen Were Great Picks I’d Say Trade Zion,Dejounte,And Poole So You Can Build Around Them
Neokils Avdalas is the best prospect in this class & people still haven't noticed
Was Zion labeled generational
Trade Zion. He's never been healthy since they brought him in.
As a hawks fan, I am more invested in the pelicans losing than the hawks winning right now….Does that make me a bad person?
Zion does not care about basketball, hes never asking out, once his contract is up he’ll go wherever he can get paid the most, he will have a good run of games right before that happens so some idiot front office thinks hes worth gambling on
Cone, they BEEN AT ROCK BOTTOM FOREVERRRR 😂
The Pels ever since trading AD have been dogshit
This roster not bad Willie is just a bad coach
Cone, if anything they were rock bottom BEFORE they fired Willie Green. They’re still up shits creek without a paddle but at least silly Willie is gone.
Is Gayle Benson going to sell the team? It seems like basketball is an afterthought in New Orleans.
Not trading Zion last 2 years ago is why they are in here 😂
"Sir, plbbt I can't plbbt understand plbbt your accent" type of team
They literally cannot blow it up. They don’t own the rights to their pick so unfortunately this team is forced to try and make other moves which is not what they should be doing. I expect either herb, Trey Murphy, or Zion to be moved for a 2 for 1 package. The pels literally cannot afford to lose
They hit rock bottom and kept digging, this team's gotta be one of the saddest franchise ever
Cone, I’m a bartender in Tulsa. Next time you’re in town, I’d like to buy your beers. I bartend at McNellie’s, reply to this, I got you. We don’t have enough media guys representing the O.
I think Zion has to give up the habit of that weird extra few small bounces after landing or the skipping shit…. I don't know if there's any logic behind it but I think he's way too heavy for that extra lower leg works.
Pelicans ownership asked the front office to explore trades for Zion and Dumars was like "nah, i'll keep him and trade away our valuable picks for pennies"
honestly they should just trade trey murphy to the hawks to get their picks back, blow it up and rebuild AGAIN
This is a bit much jumping on drama for me. Besides, as someone that has followed the Pelicans closely over the last 5-6 years, this isn't by any stretch the worst position the Pelicans have been in. Yes, their record sucks, but that was similar last year and much further into the season than now. I'll give you a rundown of the negatives first and then the positives.
List of problems for the Pelicans
– No real direction both offensively and defensively
– Lack of a high level playmaking option besides Zion
– Zion is still missing games (though set to return soon)
– Inexperienced rookies, sophomores mixed with win-now players
– A lot of their players come with clear downsides and are not well versed
– Really bad start to the season, making it hard to get anywhere in a stacked West
Current positives for the Pelicans
– Derik Queen and Jeremiah Fears are already really good and show a ton of promise
– Herb Jones and Sadiq Bey are real 3 and D options.
– Trey Murphy started slow, but looks like a really good 1st or 2nd option now
– They don't get blown out by strong teams, or only just one quarter and then hang on
– Willie Green is finally gone. Even though I respect the man, the results haven't been there for years now, with a clearly talented group.
1440p plzzz cone
But, but but according to Jake Madison from Locked on Pelicans, if we traded Brandon Ingram all problems would be solved. PLUS Zion Williamson is the next Lebron… Right, Jake Madison.
Look its definitely a bad situation rn but just look at the roster. Two decent young players from this draft in fears and queen. Very good players in trey, zion and herb. Some struggling players in poole and murray but overall i think internal development is the best pathway rn. Trading all those young pieces away is really pointless wothout that pick so just get the team playing better. Fans have been calling for willie to leave so lets see how that plays out
Move the team to Seattle and trade Zion. Enough.
Would Mavs take a chance at Zion Williamson or keep AD ?
First of, get this team out of nawlins..
The biggest mistake was drafting Zion keep him and not trading him
So long as Gayle and Dumars are running the team, this is who we are
actually goes to show how bad australian basketball is that they went over and thumped a team from the NBL
The place that pelicans should go is Kansas City 😂. We need an NBA team back here
Bro thinks this is the lowest point
