It will be at least a two week absence for UB as the Sixers swingman has an LCL sprain in his left knee. So UB after hyperextending his left knee in the second quarter of the Sixers game against Detroit on November 14th will be re-evaluated in two weeks. Tonight’s starting five for your Sixers, Tyrese Maxi, BJ Edgecom, Justin Edwards, Dominic Barlo, and Andre Drummond. And then for the Toronto Raptors, it’ll be Emanuela Quickley, RJ Barrett, Brennan Ingram, Scotty Barnes, and Yakob Hurdle. Can’t wait to get this one underway. A big early season Eastern Conference matchup here between Philadelphia and Toronto. Obviously, they have a pretty big history between the two squads. Obviously, a good start to the season, been on a little bit of a cold spell, have struggled against teams with winning records, which the Raptors do have. And look, the Raptors have a talented squad led by Brandon Ingram, Scotty Barnes, RJ Barrett, Emanuel Quickley. They got some good players and they’ve surprised some people early on here this season. But the Sixers, whoever, you know, whether you’ve had your stars in the lineup or not, Philadelphia has found a way to win games, man. So, I’m excited to see Maxi. I think VJ Edgecomb has to be extra aggressive here tonight. Again, you’re missing Embiid, you’re missing UB, and you’re missing Paul George. So, that’s a lot of offense right there that you’re going to have to replace. Can Justin Edwards pick up some of that slack? But I’m really looking to VJ Edgecom, who went through a, you know, a little bit of a mini slump after his strong start, but has picked it back up a little bit over the last few games. Not a great statistical debut for Paul George, but I thought he played well all things considered. Didn’t shoot the ball well, but I thought rebounded well. He had nine points, seven rebounds. Thought he was moving the ball well as well. Made a couple good passes. The defense looked above average. Not tremendous, but again, his first game back and I thought he moved well just in general. So, always good to see a player coming back that back from injury, moving well, obviously looking rusty. That’s to be expected. No real surprise there for Toronto. Really not many injuries to speak of. Oiagi will be out for this one. And their rookie, Colin Murray Boils, will not play either. Somehow Yaka Purle gets open again underneath the basket. Another easy two there for Toronto. Maxi one-on-one with Quickly. He’ll try to post him up. Double comes. Maxi spades away from the double. Resets to Edwards. Over to VJ. BJ airballs the three, but they’re going to say that BJ was actually fouled on the three by RJ Barrett. So, don’t count the airball, folks. He was fouled. He was fouled. Maxi, that earlier three. Just a quick release getting it off from super deep. BJ’s first free throw is up and good. want to see VJ Edgecom continue to be aggressive. Think he’s done a decent job of that up to this point. The biggest problem right now though, I mean, just too many easy baskets early on. Just passes right underneath the rim. Just can’t happen. Just cannot happen. BJ able to knock down all three free throws. So we are back knoded up here at 15 apiece. Quickly hands it off to Scotty Barnes now to Ingram. Back to Quickley. He’ll get a screen guarded by Maxi. Maxi blocks the floater and the Sixers running the other way. And that should be a foul there as Philadelphia was trying to get out and run. Edwards received the pass and was fouled by I believe that’s Ingram. Sixers trying to get out and run. What a block by Maxi. Quickly had him on his hip. Went up with a right-handed floater and Maxi with the left able to extend and block that shot. Now here’s Edwards looking for Maxi. Unable to get it to him. Kind of just dribbling around. Now finally finds Maxi. 10 to shoot. guarded by Ingram. He’ll take another deep three. Way off on that one. Drummond unable to corral the offensive rebound. Ball will go to Toronto. Tough shot from Maxi. Bit of a heat check there after he knocked down an early three. Now here’s Scotty Barnes doing some more ball handling for the Raptors. He’ll attack Barlo. It was just way too easy, especially in that first quarter for Toronto to drive in. Drummond would have to help. So, not entirely his fault, right? But even a couple of other times, Yaka Purle just beating him down the floor. Just beating him down the floor, which just can’t happen. And so, you know, you look like what Purle has done here tonight. I mean, 12 and five already for Yaka Purle. I get not he’s just getting open underneath the basket. Not doing anything special, right? Scotty Barnes has been filling up the stat sheet for the Raptors. Eight points, five rebounds, three assists. So, they got to figure something out in this third quarter. And maybe I’ll do some kind of deep dive into what the problems are. I really think it’s it’s it’s a lack of of energy and effort because you see the Sixers in the fourth quarter play with more desperation when they when they have to. It’s not like they’re incapable, right? They have these fourth quarter comebacks. are clearly capable of playing well against these teams in these games. Toronto will dribble this one out. Sixers will lose. They’ll fall to eight and six on the season. Toronto win their fifth in a row. Move to nine and five. or 10 and five, excuse me. You just cannot dig yourself in that deep of a hole if you’re Philadelphia. Raptors are are a good team. Credit to Toronto, but 21 turnovers for Philadelphia, a season worst. 4 seconds. Edgecomb holds it as the clock expires. That’ll do it. Sixers lose 121 112 to Toronto. They fall to 8 and six at home. Emanuel quickly with some big time shots down the stretch. 11 points in the fourth quarter. A couple of threes to help put this one away. Look, if the Sixers don’t turn the ball over 21 times, they win this game. And a great point here by Latun. Got to play in the first half like it’s like it’s you’re down 10 in the fourth. Take better care of the basketball. A laxidisical third quarter effort coupled with some awful turnovers. Really sunk the Sixers in this one. Really sunk the Sixers in this one. The Sixers cannot continue to put themselves in these positions. They were up three to start the third quarter, down 10 to end the third quarter, and it’s been a problem all season long. So, an awful third quarter. some bad turnovers. They fought hard in the fourth. They did. But again, you just cannot keep putting yourselves in a position where you had to come from behind every single night. It just cannot happen. All right. Oh, man. All right. Kind of takes a lot of the juice out of that game. But Philadelphia does play the Magic again next Tuesday, so I think I’ll probably end up doing that game. That’s an NBA Cup game as well. So, that should be a fun one. They play the Heat on Sunday. Can’t do Sunday games covering the Eagles, of course. Big game for the Eagles on Sunday against the Cowboys.
