I’m feeling very good about this season and the direction the Bears are heading overall. t’s crazy when you think about the sequence of events that led us to this point, and where it all started.

On 4th and 20, Davis Mills throws a Hail Mary, which goes through the hands of a defensive player, to score a game-tying touchdown. Then, instead of tying the game, they go for two to go up one point. This secures the number 1 pick for the Bears.

The Panthers give up an incredible amount of picks, including a 2024 1st round pick, and DJ more.

The Panthers have a terrible season giving the Bears the number 1 pick in a year when several talented QBs are entering the draft.

We draft Caleb Williams.

The Bears fire their first coach in season.

Ben Johnson is hired, likely due in large part to the presence of Caleb Williams.

None of this happens without that improbable touchdown by the Texans.

  1. The CHGO team was losing their collective minds in this. That Will De”Lit” segment was legendary.

  2. I was getting back into Bears fandom, and there were a lot of “Draft Caleb vs Keep JF1, trade for MHJ and a haul” debates going on. i had no idea who Caleb was so I watched his game vs the Longhorns. Holy fucking moly this guy has always had ice in his veins.

  3. Not bears related but chicago related. April 11th, blackhawks beat penguins giving them second instead of first in the NHL lottery. Luckily gets the first overall pick in Bedard, penguins miss the playoffs with the panthers taking their place. If the panthers don’t make the playoffs this year, do they have the same fire and desire for the back to back? Would Spencer knight still be a panther?

  4. The Colts also hired John Fox as a defensive consultant that season, although I think it was a stretch to think John Fox did any real work for them them that resulted in something on the field. He probably just needed insurance or something and the NFL bro network helped him out. But I do like to think he had a couple of bad bits of advice for the DB’s in that picture.

  5. Insane that us getting Caleb Williams , DJ Moore , a top 5 RT in the league and multiple other starters hinged on the worst team in the NFL converting a 4th and 20 and a 2 point conversion

  6. That Panthers trade was everything.

    -DJ Moore-
    -Tyrique Stevenson-
    -Darnell Wright-
    -Caleb Williams-
    -Luther Burden-

    for

    -Bryce Young-

Not to mention it allowed us to draft Rome Odunze.

  7. I was at the Bears game this day and it was so funny that more people were in their phones watching this game, so much so you could hear cheers to things happening as if we were at that game

  8. I watched that game live and thought to myself in the moment I will look back in 10 years and this will be the moment that changed everything.

  9. Yeah I was just saying yesterday, a lot of people point to this as “Poles got lucky” in getting Caleb.

Yeah, he definitely did get lucky. But there’s pure lucky, and there’s self-made luck. That trade put us in a position where the luck that occurred on this play actually mattered. Yeah, there was some luck in there, there’s some luck involved in just about everything we do. But if you’re able to set the table in a way where a little luck goes a long way (i.e. a lucky hail mary turns into what many were viewing as one of the most valuable draft picks of the decade?) then you deserve some credit for making that luck work for you.

  10. Yup, was just weird saying at the end of two seasons. The Chicago Bears are now on the clock.

  11. If Caleb reaches his full potential, they need to put Lovie in the team’s Hall of Fame.

  12. I remember saying has he threw up the 4th down prayer “I know I couldn’t count on Davis mills” then he delivered that and of all coaches it was lovie. Easily a top ten thing to happen to the franchise such a butterfly affect

  13. This was a nice reminder of the crazy interconnectedness and randomness of life. Thank you.

I like the Bills quite a bit, but now I’m inclined to root for the Texans tonight. They did us a real solid that day.
