[Tej Seth] Chiefs have the 9th highest rate of catchable deep throws
November 20, 2025
Chiefs deep ball completion rate is about league average, so in context of the above it seems like this area of the offense could improve a lot by either throwing to Thornton more, or Worthy figuring it out.

Worthy cant track a deep ball to save his life and thats not really something players improve on, it’s an either you have it or you dont thing and Worthy hasn’t shown that he has it.
I’m convinced our season could be saved by running the ball more and never making a Worthy go route the first read
Worthy isn’t the second coming of Hill like many thought. There is more to getting open than being fast.
Honestly, I’d rather have Thornton out for the deep balls, and get worthy more mid range. He should be used more for yac.
Also, I hate the feeling I have when Patrick launches the ball. I’m more of a scramble then find the open man in the middle of the field Pat.
I have eyes. His deep ball is routinely off.
They are trying to find Hill 2.0, but it just hasn’t happened yet and probably won’t happen. Hill was not only fast and quick, but also could run routes and improvise when things went south. We are signing these speedy guys that have issues running routes and improvising. Rice is the closest we have to that. Maybe Veach needs to start signing receivers that aren’t just deep ball fast guys. How about getting guys that can run routes and create separation that aren’t necessarily speedy guys. And how about getting an actual WR coach who can help teach that.
Worthy was not a deep ball threat in college and will not be in the NFL. Even in college he was just an intermediate guy
Mahomes deep ball has been off, but also, Worthy is just a terrible deep option. He cannot track the football in the air and at the point of contest he is so weak.
Thornton is 6’3″ and has a large catch radius and will get rough and nasty even though he is skinny as hell. When the ball is in the air, we saw a nastiness from Thornton that is non existant with Worthy. He will compete for the football.
There is no such thing as wide open in the NFL. Randy Moss didn’t get routinely get 10 yards of separation downfield. In the NFL, 3 yards is wide open. Worthy has to learn to man up and fight for the goddamn football. This isn’t college. These guys put their hands on you.
In all honestly I believe we all expect more out of him. I’ve seen him hit the deep ball consistently but it just isn’t there right now unless Thronton is downfield.
People overestimate how many deep balls *should* be completed to be effective. It should be a low percentage, high reward play. That’s not even to say that Pat is good at deep balls, because he’s always been meh.
tyreek is once-in-a-lifetime. those years having him really ruined people’s expectations.
mahomes connecting on 3 homerun balls a game was unrealistic.
There is more to it than just #15 deep ball accuracy.
Ball tracking, route running are also apart of this.
Oh yeah defensively speaking this is last thing anyone wants to see us do on a regular basis.
I definitely thought Worthy’s rookie year was a fluke with how many deep ball connections him and Pat *almost* had.
Doesn’t seem like a fluke, they just can’t figure it out.
This tells me they need more Thornton deep balls instead…
We have no 3 level receivers. Its a real problem.
Worthy and Rice cant make contested catches and Pat wont throw 50/50 balls
I just want to say 9th out of 32 is not “elite”.
I’m starting to think maybe drafting wide receivers who only bring speed to the table is a bad strategy
