Steelers installment of scouting staff comparisons
November 19, 2025
Again, don't feel like much needs to be said here. Bengals are a badly run franchise.

It’s mind numbing. I’ve said this previously but the cost to build a nice scouting dept is probably a small fraction of one large FA contract. If you’re going to be cheap on free agents why not have the pipeline of talent coming in.
The stupidest team in football
“It’s not about having more voices in the room, it’s about having the right voices in the room.”
-Duke Tobin
The Bengals have neither the appropriate amount of voices, nor the right voices in the room. This “mom and pop” type of organization has got to go.
“Scouts cost money, and spending money bad” – Duke Tobin, probably
It’s not even the number of scouts that matters, it’s the quality of their process and then who’s making the actual decisions at the end of the day. Bengals could fire Goodberry or Gridiron grading, let them solely decide the picks and we’d be way better off
2024 draft: first round, We picked Mims (PFF 55.5) Steelers picked Fautanu (PFF 63.9). 2nd round we pick Kris Jenkins (52.9), Steelers pick Zack Fraiser (PFF 71.4). 3rd round Bengals picked Burton has zero yards this season, Steelers picked Roman Wilson a WR who has 166 yards.
The Steelers picked after us and consistently got better picks.
This makes me madder than anything happening on the football field.
St X has more middle school scouts than the bengals have college scouts.
Let them know how you feel. Send some mail to Mike Brown.
I heard he reads fan letters.
It’s not about the scouts, it’s about the ROI. Yea, the Steelers have almost three times the number of scouts, but they’ve only won 35% more games over the past 25 years. The Bengals win 17 games per scout (assuming they have the same head count for all those years), which the Steelers get a measly 9.7 wins/scout. Who’s laughing now? In fact, I bet the Bengals could let a scout or two go and not lose more than 2-3 more games per season.
And they still took Kenny Pickett with a first round pick in 2022.
How many scouts could you get for elimination of one bad (Shemar Stewart) pick per year? Spending dollars in order to pick up pennies.
Yeah but did you take into account how much money they are saving? Mike needs a new yacht
This franchise might be shamed into doing something about this just like they were shamed into building an indoor practice facility.
The problem is that they have to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into being ten years behind the times.
So yeah, they might hire a few more scouts and then let the PR team work overtime boasting about it. But they’ll never be innovators or industry leaders in any way because their nature is to play everything extremely safe and to be cheap.
Just kidding about them allowing the PR team to work overtime. They’d never pay for that.
Yep it’s the real reason nothing will ever change around here. No one forces Mike to have a real GM and scouting team so why pay what you don’t have to? Who cares if the team suffers year after year because of it.
I wonder what the team would look like if they just picked the consensus bpa at every pick.
Let the dozens or hundreds of analysts doing mock drafts be your scouting department, can’t be worse than what we got now!
Keep boycotting the team until they change. Not. One. Penny. To Mike. Don’t watch the games, don’t buy products that directly benefit them, don’t buy merch etc.
We have more assistant gms than fucking scouts lmao. This teams gives me stress headaches
I was down-voted a few weeks ago for making a comment along the lines of “Mike Brown (and Paul Brown for that matter) run the franchise like it’s 1937.” Seems like that’s a pretty fair assesment.
28 in the Steelers’ department vs 11 in ours. And we wonder how Pittsburgh drafts so well…
This is borderline criminal
*Two* interns for the Bengals vs *zero* for the Steelers. WE’RE NUMBER ONE! WE’RE NUMBER ONE!
Bengals scouts

For two whole seasons, the Bengals managed to win 27 games in the regular season and playoffs. Winning two division titles, getting to the Championship round twice and making Super Bowl 56. While everyone rags on the Steelers for a lack of recent playoff success, and instances of calling for Tomlin to be fired, they don’t finish in last place very often.
Those two seasons were the wool pulled over our eyes, with the benefit of free agent spending under generous salary cap space and hitting the jackpot on two Top 5 picks- who happened to be teammates on a college championship team- and one early second round pick. The Bengals needed to get steals like Housmanzadeh or Geno Atkins. That’s not going to happen with a number of names in a front office that can be counted with two hands.
Until Mike Brown is dead this will have no hope of change. Hopefully his family will sell the team and the search for the next Joe Burrow can begin.
I like how we have more interns than the Steelers.
Steelers aren’t that far behind tho
But everything is Zach Taylors fault remember
Wow that is a stark contrast
I would legit be curious how our drafts would have turned out if we took some major publications best player available as opposed to our paid scouts.
Watching the Rams rebound so quickly after winning the superbowl while we’ve done nothing but spiral is really telling of how to run an organization vs how to not. Are the owners here to win or not? *Hint: winning increasing your team’s value*. If not please sell this team to someone who will.
