Basically saying we’ll put some feelers out to try and solidify shortstop but we’re in no rush to do so
He’s a solid ball player but I wouldn’t hold my breath on him being just depth especially at his salary
What if we got an actual short stop instead of just rolling with whatever muck we end up with
Hopefully he’s not
It’s a backup plan if we don’t make a big splash at short at the worst and the best he pairs well either Eli White
offseason RUINED
I really hope the Braves are turning over a new leaf with Ozuna gone and will use the DH role more fluidly to give guys more regular rest. I feel like Dubón would be a great guy to have for that to help cover defensively for guys while they take a game at DH… assuming we get someone to play short most of the time…
Doesn’t help us that the SS market is very weak. It’s basically Bichette (who teams might move to 2nd) or Kim, who opted out despite the good vibes 🙁
Not feeling great so far if we’re really running it back with Iglesias and Nick Allen 2.0. Lots of offseason left though.
That sounds like the standard answer I’d expect from a GM tbh. I highly doubt Dubon is AA’s #1 choice, but he’s not gonna throw the dude we just signed under the bus, nor hint at any other ongoing negotiations. Just a safe, neutral answer that doesn’t try to predict the future.
if dubon is the opening day ss then AA better sign cease or sign/trade for that level of starter. its time to make big time upgrades and dubon is a minor upgrade at best
This just sounds like AA doing that thing where he sounds like he’s saying something without actually saying anything at all.
Smart to get a top of the line utility guy. Season is long and everyone needs a break
I want to jump for joy for this trade. The trade itself is a potential fleece. Just sending Nick Allen… for better Nick Allen?! This would be an incredible move to insure against the terrible injury luck we’ve had. Ozzie feels like he breaks a bone in his hand every other season. Riley pulls a hamstring at least once a season. Micheal Harris hurts himself making an incredible catch at least once a season. We could have a dude who plays all those spots at near gold glove level and still be league average! We could rotate Dubon around and let guys with minor injuries rest an extra 2-3 days and avoid them becoming major. IF this is us getting a league best backup who can play anywhere but catcher and first base it’s INCREDIBLE. But…. In my heart of hearts. Where I silently say those things which I fear speaking of aloud would give life to… I know. I KNOW WHAT THIS IS. ^(it’s our starting shortstop)
To me this is AA trying to put himself in a better position to negotiate for Kim. Better to be in a position of want and not need when negotiating with Boras especially.
So…this is our shortstop!
Pardon me, do you have any Grey Dubon?
We are not doing much else this off-season are we chat?
This is actually really good news. It signals that AA prefers he stick as a highly-valueable Super U unless the SS absolutely falls apart. Let’s hope Kim (or a trade works out), but this is a great safety net. The Braves have BADLY need a true versatile bench player for years. I’m stoked.
More cheap ass bullshit from AA. Get a bonafide shortstop for Christ sakes. Dubon is a utility guy.
That means he’s the starter. Now off to sign a bunch of middle relievers
I don’t think we should read too much into the Dubon trade. We exchanged Nick Allen plus ~$6m for Nick Allen But Better. It’s a strict upgrade for a little bit of cash, and Dubon can plug and play anywhere.
