totally, he didn’t touch the goalie and was out of the blue area when the puck was hit even if there was a lil contact it was well over with.
Goaltender Interference Rules
1. You can’t just be up there and just doin’ an interference like that.
1a. Interference is when you
1b. Okay well listen. An interference is when you interfere the
1c. Let me start over
1c-a. The skater is not allowed to do a block to the, uh, goalie, that prohibits the goalie from doing, you know, just trying to save the puck. You can’t do that.
1c-b. Once the skater is in the offensive zone, he can’t be over here and say to the goalie, like, “I’m gonna get ya! I’m gonna block your view! You better watch your butt!” and then just be like he didn’t even do that.
1c-b(1). Like, if you’re about to make a goal and then don’t leave the crease, you have to still leave the crease. You cannot not avoid the goaltender. Does that make any sense?
1c-b(2). You gotta be, skating motion out of the crease, and then, until you just leave it.
1c-b(3)-a. Okay, well, you can have your stick up here, like this, but then there’s the interference you gotta think about.
1c-b(4). Okay seriously though. An interference is when the skater makes a movement that, as determined by, when you do a move involving the goalie and the crease…
2) Do not do an interference please.
Absolutely
Yes
Even if there no contact, if you screen the goalie from inside the crease its no goal. Does that make sense? No not at all
This league is a fucking joke. How the fuck is that called off??
In slow motion it appears the goalie has lots of time to reset making it look like a good goal, however in real time the shot is taken a fraction of a second after contact not allowing the goalie to reset, goalie interference and no goal is the correct call
He made a conscious effort to avoid contact with the goaltender after being knocked off course by the D. He was not on a path to contact the goaltender. This should be a good goal.
Second times the charm I guess
I think its a pretty weak call, looks like his own d man screens him. But can people just stay out of the crease? We gotta show some respect to the goalies. It doesn’t look intentional but we have shitheads like Bennet in the league who are constantly doing too much in the crease.
I’ve seen goals called back for less, I’ve seen goals allowed with more. GI is impossible to call from our vantage watching on the screen
Thompson did end up in the crease after a slight bump and sent off balance. Did his best to avoid contact.
That could have gone either way.
Bottomline goalie is in blue paint and was interfered with by an attacking player that was in in blue paint limiting the goalies ability to get depth to play the puck.
Disallowed
In the replay you can clearly see that Cooley is fully set and in position before the puck is even shot. He’s in perfectly fine position to make a blocker save but Andersson is screening him.
At this point, yes. Just fucking give it. 😔
I think so, I’ve certainly seen worse be allowed to stand.
Sometimes.
I think “Did it prevent the goal tender from making the save?” is a very valuable question but is ultimately subjective and opens the door for a lot of debate on a goal by goal basis. For the purpose of reviewing and confirming goals, that’s a nightmare. The metric of the skater having initiated contact in the crease is much more quantifiable. No goal.
One of the few things NHL officiating is pretty consistent about: touch the goalie in his crease and it’s no goal, interference.
No goal , but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was called a goal
Two nights in a row
Yes and this coach’s review absolutely sucks and kills the flow of a game and just makes for less scoring and more room for interpretation by referees, which isn’t a good thing because these guys absolutely suck at their job
Yes, definitely. It’s barely debatable.
no time to get set again. 100% goalie inter
I got dragged for this a month ago for the Blackhawks (disallowed) goal vs the Canucks. I tried to argue two points at once. So I’m going to try to just argue one point (although I think this is a good goal).
The issue to me is it’s all subjective and varies night to night depending on the control room for whatever reason (different employees, different night, bias, or whatever it is).
The issue with replay is they’re too worried about overturning a call. Doesn’t matter which way the call is or if it’s right, they don’t want to OVERTURN a call. (I’m late to this game so I still don’t know how this one stands).
At this point, we’ve seen the experiment and I’m done with it. Whatever the ref called, leave it and move on. I’m so sick of watching obvious plays not get overturned just because of how it was initially called. I’d rather deal with one blown call vs a blown call and the league being afraid to overturn it on a probability.
To bring it back to the Blackhawks disallowed goal, that was called “no goal” simply due to a rule change that was implemented because of video evidence… You can’t convince me that a goaltender’s leg precariously “covering” a puck against a post is “covered” and pushing the puck (and therefore leg) into the net is a bad goal. In 9 out of 10 leagues that was a good goal. As was this one. If on the off chance that the ref disallowed this one or that, so be it. Move on, missed call or not, drop the puck and play.
At this point, replay has hurt the integrity of all the major sports instead of helping.
Lastly, Brett Hull was in the crease and I don’t care. That was a good goal.
Edit: I still ended up arguing both points. But my thought remains a goal is a goal is a goal, missed call or not.
Did Angel Heraldez start reffing…?? What’s up with all these missed and disallowed calls at this point in the season!?
Yes, I see a good goal. And not just because it was against Calgary.
But also because it was against Calgary.
I saw another goal disallowed like this in the Flyers game where the goalie makes contact with the Flyers player. So by their rules it shouldn’t stand. Do I agree with it? No, because goalie if they can’t see the puck can just go and make contact with a player and they’ll get the goal called back for interference, and it doesn’t matter if the goalie put himself out of position or not. Just make contact with a player and if the puck goes in, doesn’t count. If it misses, it’s all good too, no way to lose. It’s like when goalies used to knock the net off by pushing off the post when they were getting swarmed.
It’s close but I don’t think so
We need to stop protecting goalies so much…
No
Right or wrong rule or not, it’s very clear the refs are saying “if you touch the goalie in the crease it’s interference”. They’ve been doing it all season, folks need to take note and adjust accordingly.
I have a theory that the referees make bad calls deliberately to control the game for Gary Bettman’s playbook… this only solidifies my faith in such a conspiracy.
They need to fucking figure out the correct goalie interference because this shit is getting absolutely ridiculous
Buffalo was wearing the right jerseys for the occasion that’s for sure…
Should have counted. Would have counted in year’s past.
Nah. It’s the Sabres. F-em
I don’t think it should count at all. Not because of interference, but because the shooter was wearing such a hideous sweater.
Seriously Buffalo, your classic logo is one of the best in hockey. Stay away from these alts.
In all seriousness, good goal
Remember that one time Carey Price got literally dragged all the way to where they fucking park the zamboni and it was called a good goal?
Just stop trying to make it make sense. Look at the betting apps where the money is and that’s how you know how the call is gonna go.
Absolutely.
Did it count?
Normally I would say yes…based on how they have been ruling this season I would say no.
The rulings have been garbage though.
League is a joke, breathe on the goalie 2 seconds before the shot comes in and it’s no goal
The fact this is even a discussion is so pathetic
Ugh, so close, this is one where I would think you go with the call on the ice.
Should have counted
Yes, it should have counted.
Flames fan. Weak call and should’ve counted especially if it’s playoffs you hope one like that counts. More of a screen than anything and slight contact before. I can see why it’s overturned but I thought Cooley should’ve battled harder for the top of the crease
He literally skated the line of the crease and moves out of his way, the puck hasn’t even gone off by the time he’s beside the net. What a joke
