Six years ago, the Rays had their window to bring Tampa Bay its first World Series victory. The 2020 series saw the Rays facing one former Ray on the Dodgers. The past two seasons, the Rays failed to make the postseason or even end with a winning record. At the same time, 7 former Rays won a ring in 2024 and 8 in 2025. As easy as it is to blame the big budget teams for ruining baseball, cheap teams refuse to retain talent and cheating teams forced the big budget teams to literally win at any cost.

As a side note, I have absolutely no recollection of Banda on our 2020 team
The Dodgers are basically what the Rays would be with a blank checkbook
And yet, we spent $29M of our budget last year on HS Kim and Danny Jansen. So yeah, it’s going great….
The Dodgers BP plan was to pick up our castoffs. It only worked because they could outslug whatever damage their BP did.
And Toronto did what Toronto sports team does, which is choke.
Half these guys were on different teams or out of baseball entirely between the Rays and the dodgers. Not to mention the dodgers getting their regular season mvp and World Series mvp in FA.
So…if we can get some power hitters and a catcher that can hit and frame…we might have something?
