  1. ‘Partner for the US Coast Guard Academy’

Insert ‘you do realize that’s worse, right?’ meme

  2. I always love when people get their panties in a bunch over a company partnering with a high-profile rich evil asshole like Peter Thiel but we just go on about our days not complaining about the hundreds of also-evil rich evil assholes that run 99% of the huge corporations the MLB partners with. Heck people should probably show some of that outrage for the partnerships with the US military. But guys like Peter Thiel and Elon Musk are just louder and more publicly annoying than most evil rich assholes, so we cancel those dudes but don’t take things any further. It’s really all virtue signaling that doesn’t actually effect change.

News flash – most rich assholes are evil. The billionaires that own our favorite teams are much more aligned with Peter Thiel and his evil friends than they are with us. Same with every head/CEO of every huge corporation we buy stuff from daily. Do we really think the unnamed people in charge of all these gambling companies aren’t insanely awful human beings that are causing harm to humanity?

  3. Can someone ELI5 what Palantir does and why it’s any worse than the other companies that advertise at ballparks?

  4. It’s not that the Red Sox as a company are partnered with them. Don’t think that was ever seriously on the table; it being for that game was always much more likely.

It’s that their owner did. And used Fenway Park as a billboard for this evil shit. Just because he didn’t officially tie the Sox to Palantir doesn’t mean John Henry didn’t make money off the history of the team to promote Palantir. It’s still shit ass behavior from a shit ass person that makes me hate this ownership even more.

  5. Genuine question, why is this such a big deal? I’ve never heard of this company before and don’t understand all the dirt this kicked up.

  6. Good afternoon Alex,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your perspective. Palantir was a partner of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy for the Secretaries’ Cup game held at Fenway Park. They are a current partner of the Houston Astros and have been a proud partner since 2017. Their billboard will be residing permanently at Dalkin Park, home of the Houston Astros.

    Thank you,

  7. But some random on Reddit said it was Fenway’s new sponsor. You mean someone just jumped to conclusions without any confirmation and then posted it here for karma. Interesting.

  8. Don’t worry, they’ll just partner with dozens of other companies that no one’s ever heard of doing the same thing.

  9. Two things people were unaware of: U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the Secretaries Cup. This is advertising money well spent.

  10. So my social media feed went initially out of its way to only show the portion of the story that would make me angry and upset? It’s like…well, *some*thing, I can’t quite put my finger on it.
