[McMenamin] In addition to Joey and Jesse Buss being terminated by the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, much of the scouting staff has also been let go, sources told ESPN.

  1. Lakers will now be run like the Dodgers. Hiring only the absolute best people for the job, no matter the expense. The family business model worked in the past but you can’t get away with that anymore in 2025.

  2. Tough man. Very, very curious to see who they bring in. Clearly Walter and Co. are looking for new blood. The scouting department has been among the best things in the FO, but if we can go poach some talent then it is what it is.

I’d love to see an announcement of what exactly we’re planning here. Hopefully a giant overhaul lead by someone with a vision on the drafting side.

  3. I have to believe there is a plan here. The Lakers scouting team has done fairly well considering our lack of high picks, so I hope they have some high level replacement scouts in mind.

JJ finding out the mfs that scouted JHS, Maxwell Lewis & Knecht getting fired

  5. I wonder how much of the current (well now previous) scouting was data driven? Cause we know how analytics driven the Dodgers are run now and if the Lakers were just going by eye tests like they probably did when Tex Winter worked with the team.

Maybe new ownership wants to ‘modernize’ scouting now I don’t know much about baseball and even less about basketball but I feel like analytics based player acquisition works better in baseball than basketball.

  6. Yikes was our scouting that bad? In mark that trust but these are some drastic changes

  7. I BELIEVE THIS WILL WORK IN THE LONG TERM BECAUSE I HAVE TO BELIEVE THIS WILL LEAD TO THE NEXT MAGIC/KOBE LAKER LIFER

  8. Oh ok, makes sense now. Let’s get a nice scouting department. I guess this is the price u pay for hood schafino and tht. Also when is the Rambi leaving

  9. Was it necessary to clean house? I can’t help but feel like we have a top tier scouting team and how confident are we that they can substantially improve on scouting?

  10. The scouting department has been incredible for the last decade with Ryan West, Jesse, and Joey. Disappointing what has happened to day but I will trust the process. It was hard seeing Ryan go, but time will tell.

  11. Seems like a mistake. Lakers scouts have been adept at finding talent deep in the draft. I hope they know what they’re doing!

  12. I felt like our scouts weren’t doing a bad job. Think of all the amazing players we’ve recruited that went on to have great starter level careers. The problem was the constant trading with no benefit.

  13. I want the best of the best, with the best analytics dept and everything. European scouts. China scouts is probably next on the horizon.

However- the lakers scouts have turned some good prospects out of the second round or worse over last few years with Caruso, AR, max Christie, mo Wagner and svi looked pretty solid in Utah game and I forgot he existed), kuzma, zubac, nance. Those are all dudes that panned out for us that weren’t blue chips. There were a couple misses in that time slot, but not many.

The blue chips we picked- we missed on d lo and lonzo. Randle and Ingram were good picks. Maybe not the BeST picks, but still great players.
