I think he's the best all around position player coming out of Japan

  1. I think there’s a solid chance. Not sure it’s the best route but I think it’s a good risk to take

  2. He’s a good fit for the Mets if they let pete go. If pete returns then he probably goes elsewhere.

  3. I’d love it if we took a legit swing at him. LA doesn’t need him which is already a boon for us. If Pete wants to bail, even more reason to get him here. He’s versatile and powerful and gives us a nice production boost. Always a question as to how his power translates to MLB stadiums but I feel strongly he’d be a quality addition

  4. Okamoto can play third, first and outfield. Just a super versatile player, and we can have some insurance if Alonso leaves.

Not sure we can wait til March again.

  5. would love to have him at either first or third depending on if Alonso sticks around or not

  6. We need to understand that East coast teams are not a desirable location for a Japanese player to land.

    Manage expectations guys and gals.

  7. No.

Stop asking about Japanese players. As long as Ohtani is in LA, their priority is signing there.

  8. I’d rather have Murakami but i think yes. I’ve heard a lot about how he translates well do to analytics which I’m sure Stearns must love to here.

  9. Now that Naylor is off the board, I think signing Okamoto should be a top priority for us.

    SS Lindor
    RF Soto
    DH Alonso
    LF Nimmo
    1B Okamoto
    2B McNeil
    C Alvarez
    3B Baty
    CF Taylor

Would be a good lineup for Opening Day. With Benge and Jett coming up whenever they’re ready to take over CF and 2B respectively.

  10. The dodgers have nowhere for him to play. They have freeman and Ohtani. He’s not going to be a dodger.

  11. Okamoto is the only player I’d be happy to see at 1b other than Pete. 30 HR potential and gold glove caliber fielding.

  12. Gotta improve our putrid defense. I dont want any position players that aren’t two way players. Ideal offseason for me on the position players side is signing bellinger bregman and okamoto. But only 2 of the three would be OK. Plus all 3 have no q.o.

  13. I get a feeling this guy is not going to translate like Otani just a gut feeling that’s all.

  14. The Mets DO need a contact hitter or two but for my money they need to build a killer pitching staff. If they resign Alonzo they will always be able to poke a few runs in.

  15. Yeah, I’m sorry. I got so many responses from my comment lol that I clicked on the wrong one someone that was disagreeing with me a lot lol

  16. He’s like the Japanese Alex bregman lol. He won the Japanese gold glove at third in 2021 and 2022. And he is only getting better at first.

Dont think he will be a bust, but a solid player you could move around from first to third to outfield.
