Following the Hornets’ disappointing road loss to the 2-13 Indiana Pacers — their fourth straight, dropping Charlotte to 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 4-11 record — star guard LaMelo Ball has grown increasingly frustrated with the organization and is open to a trade away from the franchise, multiple league sources told Yahoo Sports.

League sources say the front office is increasingly hesitant about cementing Ball as a long-term foundational piece, has become disillusioned with the 24-year-old and is open to moving him. Ball has appeared in just nine games this season due to a right ankle injury. Despite Charlotte’s slow start, there have been a few bright spots, notably the impressive early performances from rookies Knueppel and Ryan Kalkbrenner.

Should both sides decide to explore the trade market in the near future, Ball is still young enough to warrant intrigue around the league, but his albatross price tag may give pause to rival front offices.

LaVar Ball, 5 months ago:

“The Clippers! Bring those god damn Ball boys home and let’s go get this championship and quit messing around. All you fans who want a championship back in LA. Yes! Whole new arena with the Ball boys? Who ain’t gonna go watch that show?”

Lonzo Ball and LiAngelo Ball, 6 months ago:

LiAngelo: “[The Clippers] need Dip boy!! Go get yo ass Melo man”

Lonzo: “I stand on what I said, I’ma leave it at that”

  1. Listen not to defend the Hornets franchise but you can’t ask for a trade if you’ve played more than 50 games twice

  2. Are they holding him back from playing when he wants to be in? Otherwise he’s part of the problem.

  3. I don’t think there’s a team in the league that would give up any real assets for this guy

  4. What even is Lamelo’s value? He’s a good player when he’s healthy but not good enough with his injury risk and he’s also not show the capacity to play serious basketball. It would be a huge gamble that some good team will make and it can go great or blow up.

Honestly, I think it might be a solid move for Dallas. You can rest Lamelo this season, see why he’s hurt, maybe see if theres anything you can do, then pair him up with Cooper and another top pick from this draft. Might be a worthwhile swing if it isn’t too expense.

  5. This mf shot 5/21 with 6 TO’s last night while taking some of the worst shots I’ve seen. The Hornets are frustrated with him too.

  6. Lamelo being one of the biggest problems and asking out is so crazy lmao. Hey how about you play some more games and play defense when you do play

  7. “He hoops like he has AirPods in” has never been a better description for any other thing in written history

  8. 50% participation. Extensive injury issues. Huge contract. Questionable playstyle.

Good luck finding a good trade there.

  9. Frustrated? This org has done nothing but support him through all his injuries….even to the point of abusing the “load management” excuse to protect him.

Bottom line…bro gets paid and barely pays. What’s there to grow “frustrated” about.

  10. Clippers make sense – if anyone is taking an illegal, under-the-table, no-show deal, who is more likely than that family?!!
