“We Got Outworked” | Lindy Ruff After 6-2 Loss To Calgary Flames | Buffalo Sabres

Was tonight too casual? Did you take them lightly? Uh, I thought we were determined to be too fancy for sure. Um, that showed up in the first period till we got direct and more north in the second period. We weren’t really in the game back two going to the third. May not have deserved it if you were there. What happened when the game was there to be taken? We got we get again, you know, early goal. We got beat to the net the goal at the uh in the third period we got beat to the net. U two goals around net front we weren’t we weren’t strong enough. Um our power play could have changed the direction of the game we weren’t good enough. Execution of puck movement wasn’t good enough. Um hard game we weren’t winning enough faceoffs enough key faceoffs we lost. So, you know, I think we were down around 40% after two periods. We’re chasing the puck around quite a bit. The best teams in the first period last year, most of the year. What can you do to unlock the mystery of it this year? Uh, you know, I think the the periods that have gone well for us have been, you know, a lot of times we’re starting, you know, our fourth line, the the guys are going to go out and grind it out and be physical. I think as a group we got to get engaged physically. That was the key last year. Engage physically. We lost too many battles. I mean, as a group, um there there wasn’t a lot of players to like in the game. Uh if you want to break down every goal, somebody got somebody got out muscled somewhere. Somebody got beat back up ice. Um didn’t really see that coming. Uh the first periods, you’re right. Um, you got to get back to being a physical team in a sense of winning battles and and winning puck races. Uh, which I felt we we didn’t do and they beat us to pucks that led to goals. St. Louis, Calgary, I mean, you guys are where you are. You can’t be taking teams lightly, but just how shocking is it that you have those kind of games? You know what? It’s the and even talked about it as a as a coaching staff coming off a you know we’ve got a little history of you know coming off a high of you know beating a good team and I I just I I don’t think we respected them enough. They’re they’re desperate. I mean any team that’s been where they’ve been at they’re desperate. Uh they’re a big strong team. So we knew we’d have to we’d have to find ways to win win battles and win in foot races and get the puck in the right place. and our execution part of that game wasn’t we didn’t get to spots quick enough and then when we did our some of our puck play our you know what I talked about this morning this deferring to some of the key area we’re in the key area to shoot the puck and we defer it outside and that that that really hurt us again tonight talking about that that high the guys get too high in themselves and you know whatever do you know why they can’t shake that you Um, you know, I think it’s you go through a stretch like we went through that was hard and you know, when you win a game like that in Detroit, um, I would say you’re on a pretty good high there. We answered that high with coming back and playing a good game against Edmonton. Um, we had the opportunity in that first 10 minutes to really to just try to outwork the other team. We got outworked and it’s as simple as that. I think that I think our guys some of the guys wanted it easy. It wasn’t going to it wasn’t going to be easy tonight. Interference call. I mean, what was your level? Yeah, again, you know, we can spend time talking about you. The reason you challenge is because you don’t know. It could go either way. I thought that one could have went either e either way. I didn’t think I mean, my opinion, I didn’t think there was enough there. Um, they used their timeout. They challenged it. the only way you’re going to know. Uh it could have been a huge turning point if you know goes the other way. Uh but it it went their way

Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff spoke to the media after a 6-2 loss to the Calgary Flames on November 19, 2025. Ruff talked about what went wrong during the game, and how he feels the team’s effort levels were from the start. He discussed the Rasmus Dahlin goal that was called off for goaltender interference and what the team needs to do going forward in their next game against Chicago.

  1. Outworked by the only team in the NHL with a lousier record than us. Not a good sign. Then again we haven't had a good sign in over 10 years

  2. The question is how does this team become motivated ? The quotes are " we were to high on ourselves after a 2 game winning streak " Tage ….Ruff is a reacurring sentence we were beat down outworked , whatever lol This team needs confidence but they can not be overconfident / to cute. The puck is 2 inches not their collective brain or 1 would hope . Please " Can " Adams and the Ruff experience as this is a rollercoaster and any owner with sense in head (see brain comment) will want to get off or puke on person in same " car " with them . Say all the nice things as an owner for their services and go get Shanahan yesterday. Enough is enough with this along for the ride BS .

  3. What does Ruff say at 2: 15 ish as covers mouth ….something about " I cant " I mean he is ready to explode I think . Thats a slip .Like most things if its 50/50 it goes the other way is right ! Thats called lack of bleeping effort !

  4. I hate to say anything bad about Lindy but he's acting like a soft old grandpa now, be a coach or go take this kind of energy to a local rink and coach shinny!
