Ace Bailey is becoming a star

Ace Bailey is becoming the star of the jazz need. Let’s talk about it. It’s the Hoops Nerd Show. [Music] All right, guys. Before we get into it, make sure you like the video, subscribe to the channel. Okay, Ace Bailey, we’re seeing it. He’s had three starts under his belt and he’s playing extremely well, guys. And one of the most exciting things about this Ace Bailey season is all of the scouting reports before he even came into the league have turned out to be almost all of them wrong except for one thing, and we’ll talk about that. But the idea that Ace Bailey was a ballhog, that he’s a primadana, that he only wants the big shots, that he doesn’t move the ball, that he’s selfish, doesn’t play defense, all these different things have proven to be completely untrue. The one thing that that that was talked about Bailey that could stand to improve and that we’ll watch and see if it does is that handle. And obviously, he can just improve overall as a player, as rookies do, but he’s looking incredible. So, Ace Bailey starts this season. The Jazz say that he was sick, bedridden, had some sort of really bad sickness that had him just kind of wiped out, I guess. And so, he doesn’t get to start to begin the season. I was a little skeptical about that because we also had quotes about not wanting to start players unless they earn it. And so it was a little h but anyways we’ll just go with the sickness part because having started with the Jazz he has looked incredible. In Ace Baileyy’s first eight games when he was not starting and was coming off of sickness minute restriction he was shooting 40% from the field and 13% from three. In his last four games, three of those he’s been starting. He is shooting 52% from the field, 45% from three. He is playing at another level. It should not be surprising that with the better players around him, he’s just playing much just much better. And it’s not just the shooting that’s going well. He’s also averaging 2.3 assists per game in those last four games. And that is in 27 minutes per game. That’s pretty amazing. Ace Bailey has a usage percentage that is sixth on the Jazz. Now, what is usage percentage? That is the percentage of shots while you’re on the floor that you take either a a shot or ends in a turnover, right? And he is sixth on the Jazz. So, he is there are five other players that have a higher usage percentage than Ace Bailey. So, in 27 minutes per game, he’s averaging 2.3 assists. The idea that Ace Bailey wasn’t a good passer or wouldn’t make the simple play is just not true. He is a willing passer, makes the right plays at sometimes he he’s almost too unselfish and you’d like to see him actually go and try to score more because he’s so athletic and shows so much potential. On top of that, his defense is solid. And the biggest thing is that he’s averaging over five rebounds per game as in these last four games as a starter. It’s remarkable stuff. His athleticism and size is showing big time. But even more than that, just his competitive drive and motor. The guy goes out and plays hard no matter what. And he has a great attitude. Something that was people were saying, “Oh, I don’t know.” He comes out and his teammates love him. He plays hard. good attitude. Whether the Jazz are losing or winning, he is playing hard and doing what coach Hardy wants him to do. It’s exciting stuff. Now, that 2.3 assists per game in 27 minutes per game. If you compare that to Lowry Markin, who actually averages less assists per game with the number one usage percentage on the on the team. So, in those last four games, Ace Bailey 2.3 assists in 27 minutes. Lowry Markin 2.1 in 35 minutes per game and that’s a higher higher usage percentage. Ace Bailey is just showing that you give him more minutes, better things will happen. You can basically mark him down for three assists per game. And like I said, the one thing that was probably correct was that the handle needs to improve. It’s not as bad as people said, but you do see him kind of lose the handle a little bit once or twice a game. As that gets better and he gets comfortable driving to the basket, taking pullup shots in the mid-range, initiating a pick and roll, all these different things, he’ll get to the free throw line more. He’ll score more. And because we know he’s a good passer and is ready to make the right play, who knows if his assists don’t go up even more. So, that’s going to be the thing to watch. That’s the swing skill where if that improves, then the sky is the limit with Ace Bailey because he’s already showing that he’s an incredible player.
