Yankees Interested in Devin Williams return? $45 Million Rumor

Just wanted to talk that’s all. Welcome back everybody. Welcome back. Another offseason video courtesy of some interesting moves by the Yankees. I want to start with a little story. My biggest fear on earth is plummeting to my death from a very tall place. I’ve never liked heights. I’ve never liked very tall bridges. And even when I was a kid and I would play Nintendo and Mario would fall to his death, I would get that wse of pain. And my second biggest fear is poisonous snakes. And I think part of that comes from growing up uh and having relatives in Alabama that we would go visit and we had to always be on the watch for rattlesnakes. Okay. Now, if you were to ask me whether I would rather get bit by a poisonous snake while on top of the world’s tallest building and subsequently fall over the side of that building and plummet to my death, or would I rather the Yankees allocate $45 million over the next three years to Devin Williams? Honestly, I would probably choose Devin Williams, but it would not be an instantaneous decision. This would not be an easy call for me. Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic and of the Foul Territory Network, colleague of mine, has reported that the Yankees are working on a three-year, $45 million deal with Devin Williams. Devin Williams was positively counterproductive this year to the point where he lost his closer job and became a middle relief pitcher. And I know what you’re saying. Hey, he was better down the stretch. He still had a negative0.3 war. He had six losses as a relief pitcher. He was 4-6, 4.79 erra. Now, he did have a lot of strikeouts, 90 strikeouts in 62 innings pitched, 1.129 whip, four blown saves, and five home runs allowed. But to me, $15 million for a middle reliever who, you know, just had a bad year and at that a three-year deal for a guy who had back surgery two years ago. To me, I mean, this is insane. And this is coming on the heels of giving $22 million to Trent Gisham who now basically prevents you from signing Bellinger or Tucker because if you do that, you block one of your top two prospects or both of them and and Jason Dominguez and and Spencer Jones. I mean, Lombard’s a top prospect, too, but I’m talking about outfield prospects. Look, I just don’t get the roster construction this year. I don’t understand what the Yankees are doing. And I understand that Devin Williams pitched better in the second half. He still didn’t make me feel comfortable. The guy gave out so many heart attacks. He was the number three leading cause of death in the New York metropolitan area in the summer of 2025. That is a statistical fact. And I just don’t see the point in bringing this guy back. Now, it’s almost as if Brian Kman went through my list of five Yankees who won’t be back and said, “You know what? I’ve had it with this Derek guy. I’ve had it with this Pinstripe Territory podcast. We’re going to stick it to this guy. We’re going to give all the money to the guys who shouldn’t be here. Trent Gisham, Devin Williams. No word yet on the rumors that they’re thinking about bringing back Aaron Hicks, Clint Frasier, Alex Verdugo, and Anthony Rizzo to complete the roster. And hey, they need a shortstop. Why not Tyler Wade? This is insanity to me. This is insanity. I won’t be offended, but I would rather be attacked by Hornets than see the Yankees sign him to a threeyear $45 million deal. I just think it’s bad.   2. They continue to make these moves it will save me 180 on MLB package next spring and summer I heard this guy was worth about 7.5 million anything more than that he gotta go this team is already shaping up to be a turd

  11. By Cashman standards however this isn't that terrible. Williams was exposed as not being ready for prime time closing in a big market, but as a set up man he was very effective even without his best stuff. Williams just turned 31 so the 3 year term isn't too bad. You have to grade Cashman on a curve. This is a solid C by Cashman standards. Trent Grisham however was an F-minus. Grisham literally is useless and that resigning hurts both Dominguez and Jones.

  12. You've been badly hurt, repeatedly, by Devin ā€” we all have. He knows he was awful in the start to his Yankee career and hopes that we'll consider his much better 2nd half of the 2025. And to give him a chance to prove that 2025 2nd Half Devin is the Real Devin. If he had a great first half and a horrible 2nd half, I'd be just as anti-Devin as you. But his overall career track record gives me the feeling that he'll perform more like Very Good Devin than like Very Bad Devin. I'd be OK with giving him the deal.

  19. Iā€™ve been attacked by hornetsā€¦ itā€™s no picnic! I donā€™t mind the signing, if he struggles again he still has trade value. I think heā€™ll be better.

  21. Management doesnā€™t care about winning. They only care about bringing in money. We are getting no great players in the off season, and our team needs help. I give up.

  31. Smh….Cashman is clueless. What is he doing? I am sick of Cashman. The roster construction is always a mystery. When he is putting together it doesn't make sense and has built in road blocks to flexibility. And once the season starts the roster becomes an evolving mystery. Nothing makes sense.
