The San Diego Padres have added some versatile infield depth to their organization.

Pablo Reyes' deal is a minor-league contract with the Padres that should include an invite to major league spring training, according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America.

He's a 32-year old who has played in parts of seven MLB seasons.

Reyes is a career .245 hitter across 259 games. He hits lefties to the tune of a .272 clip.

At the MLB level, Reyes has appeared in the field at first base, second base, shortstop, third base, left field, centerfield, right field and for five innings on the mound.

The Padres have strong starters but maybe not clear and obvious reserves with versatility. Reyes gives them one of those. He'll likely have a real chance to make the team, especially with his ability to hit left-handed pitching while clearly being able to play all over the diamond.

  1. The need for serious SP and at least one major slugger notwithstanding, I’m down for this sign! We need some utility guys so LFGSD

  2. Well good thing most of the lineup is set (8/9) spots so no need to witness the horrors of a maldy/Gurriel/Heyward anymore

  3. I hope we get atleast one of the premier Japanese players, I feel like we should take the chance on one of em

  4. Already way better then last offseason. All our signings were at the end and very bad except Nick.
