Bills vs. Texans Reaction 🏈 Houston’s defense comes up BIG vs. Josh Allen | SC with SVP
[Music] Houston riding that defense all the way to victories. You see Houston had eight sacks, a pair each for Denil Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. is it Anderson Jr. that’s going to join the show? Oh, Bullock who’s going to join the show. He had two huge picks. They moved to double digits. They are the first teammates with 10 sacks through 11 games in a season over the last five years. Damen Woody, always fun to be here. And man, we saw a entertaining football game tonight. My lord, that that defense, woof, look, the lens that people probably see this through is Buffalo. We’re going to put them on the back burner and let’s talk about that defense and this Houston team. CJ Strad goes out with a concussion. Mills comes in and they keep winning football games and so he’s held the rope. This defense though, Damen, if this Houston team keeps winning, how frightening a proposition are they down the stretch and potentially potentially into the playoffs? What do we say in what do we say upstairs? If the people if Houston finds their way into the postseason, you’re not going to want to play them. And I think the whole nation saw why that Houston Texans defense, they’re elite on all three levels. That front was absolutely ferocious. Josh Allen has never been sacked eight times in his career. I mean, listen, most of these teams, they can’t even they don’t even have guys that can keep up with Josh Allen once he gets to moving around. But Houston, this defense, they have so many guys and they come at you in waves up front. They just did a masterful job of containing Josh Allen tonight. Want to go back in that highlight to fourth and one, you and I in real time both. I just said there’s no way you don’t run Josh Allen in some form or fashion. Roll him out, give him a chance. But I I to run into the teeth of that defense. What I I I was just I just threw my hands up. I I felt the same the same way that Josh I was like, “What was that?” You literally ran a dive into the teeth of the Houston Texans defense. I’m thinking, “Okay, some type of boots, some some type of action where you get Josh Allen on the perimeter and you’re left scratching your head at that at that play call.” Whether it’s me talking to your BC uh brother Tim Hasselbeck on Sunday or talking to you on Thursdays, it feels like we often refer to the idea of a backup quarterback being as important a position as any in the NFL because if your backup can’t do it, then you fall apart. I’m not saying Mills is an MVP, but he’s held the rope and he’s done a more than serviceable job when called upon. I don’t know how he’s not going to be the guy we talk about. The defense is where we should start, right? But I I give the guy a ton of credit for filling in admirably and giving them a chance to to not just stay where they were, but but ascend in and Straoud’s absence. Doesn’t he deserve credit? Oh, absolutely. You just don’t want the guy to be be the guy that that loses you games. You know, he’s done a very good job of just holding down a fort, making plays when they’re when they’re there, and absolutely depending on the most important and the best aspect of their team, their defense. Their defense going to keep them in every game. And yet having said that, you and I definitely wondered if you know the relatively conservative approach with that lead could come back to bite him. It nearly does an incredible execution on a fourth and 27 which has no chance to work and it does. But then that defense again gets the stop and they get the victory. As for Buffalo, they have lost on the road against Atlanta. Didn’t look great offensively. They lost on the road against Miami. They just turned it over uh a number of time. They turn it over again tonight on a number of occasions and and there’s nothing you could do in the face of that pass rush. How concerning is it to watch Buffalo continue to put tape like this out there in an AFC that feels as wide open as ever? Because I think we keep looking at KC and Buffalo and waiting for them to be who they’ve been and maybe this is just who they are. Th this is who they are. And and in regards to Buffalo, the problem with Buffalo is they’re asking 17 to put on his cape all the time. He doesn’t have he doesn’t have the support. He doesn’t have the help in order to overcome this team’s deficiency. They’re not good on defense. They don’t have wide receivers that can that can get open versus versus man coverage. Coleman a scratch again for the second consecutive game. Exactly. And you know their best receiving threat is their tight end Daltton Concade who was who was also out. So they’re very limited offensively and they’re bad defensively. Well, I mean look at the last game they play against Tampa Bay. the man the man 17’s responsible for six touchdowns and it’s like I mean at some point you know put on a cape there’s a little kryptonite and that was the Houston defense tonight. We will hear from that Houston defense a little bit later. We’ll hear from Damian a little bit later in the show. Right now we hear from the reigning MVP Josh Allen sacked eight times and they were defeated for the fourth time this season. Um I’ll have to watch it on film. Um feel like they were doing few few different stunts. Um, you know, they they had a good plan and uh we got to got to play better. Did they show you something different, Josh, on than what was on film? Did they surprise? Not necessarily. They just got they they wanted it today, you know, and um yeah, I mean, we had a chance to win it there at the end and got to find a way. What’ you see on the final play? Final play. Um, you know, looking looking like man. um just dropping back and just try trying to get it to one of our open guys. Um you know Yeah. On the fourth down play it appeared on the sidelines on the TV broadcast that you might have been saying what are we doing on that play? Was there some miscommunication or were you just not happy with the play or um I mean just frustration um on my part um you know just yeah in a situation like that probably should have just banged a timeout. Um just getting getting we we got to playing late. Um you know didn’t give ourselves a chance there. How difficult is it to deal with that pass rush? Obviously taking all those hits. Can you even put into words how it is to to get through a game like that? Most sacks of your career. Yeah, it’s not fun. Um I I ran into a couple myself. I got to be better with throwing the ball away um and living to see another down and uh letting letting us play some situational football and pinning them deep and too many times I was going backwards and um I got to be better on that. Back to the key interception in this game tonight. What was it number nine? I said it was Kale Bullock with the Bills driving and he squeezes that one and this Houston defense was the story of the night. eight sacks. Bullock had a couple of picks. He’s got the headset on and he joins me now. Kaylin, welcome to the show for the first time. I’m Scott Vampel and it’s a pleasure to have you after this spectacular night. I’m going to get to you in a minute, but I got to start with the guys in front of you to get to Josh Allen, the MVP, and sack him eight times. I see that smile on your face, man. What’s it like watching the guys at the sec at the first and second levels of your defense go to work? Got to be a show, man. Hey. Yeah. Every day they go on and they work. Them guys, they the best up front. They make our job easy in the back end. Hey, them guys got to them today and they was Hey, they was sacking them every single play almost it felt like. So, shout out to them two guys up front. When it’s a guy like Josh Allen in particular, I I just How do you describe Kalin? Just the the level of fear that guy strikes in the hearts of players because, you know, as big as he is, even if it’s Denil or Will chasing him, they might not be able to get him to the ground. I got to think that he maybe more than any other quarterback just keeps your attention until the play is over and the whistle blows. Uh yeah, of course. Uh there’s a reason why Josh Allen is one of the best quarterbacks in this league. Uh like you said, guy who who’s big, he can do almost everything on the field. So that’s a dangerous quarterback there. But today, we just trust our D line was going to get to him. The picks that you got come in critical times. One of them you take back. There was a block in the back and when you see the tape like it’s it’s a block in the back. I’m sorry your touchdown got taken away, but the one that seals it wi with like the tension’s got to be incredibly high with them knocking on the door. Just what what do you see in front of you on that game ceiling to uh interception? Kaylin, do you can you take me through that? Uh uh like you said, uh them them guys, they was driving down the field, the tension was high. Uh I was a post safety and my eyes just back there. Our D line got to him and made him make a bad decision and he threw the ball right to me. The fourth and 27 play is insane. I mean, I I I said on the highlight when I was doing it a minute ago, there’s no way this is going to work. I mean, that’s perfectly executed. When that happens, what goes through your mind, Kaylin? Uh, when that happened, I think we go through our mind, we got to keep fighting. Uh, them guys caught a good play and they executed it and, you know, they was, like you said, they was marching down the field, but the defense, we got the mindset, we’re gonna keep fighting. This game, not over. All right, I got two more quick ones for you. You’re Damen Woody said to me a moment ago, look, if this Houston team keeps winning, no one is going to want to see them down the stretch because of you guys on defense. How do you best describe the confidence that’s growing within your room as you guys continue to win football games? Uh, every guy on our defense, we just got the mindset we’re going to be the best. Every single day we we step out there on that field. Uh, we know we got some bad guys on our team to our left in front of us and our D line know that we going to do our job on the back end. So, it’s just all of us. We going out there. We trust each other. When we trust each other, we’re the best defense in the NFL. You’re playing that way right now. Let me close with one on Saturday. There’s a big one up there in the in the Pacific Northwest. I’m uh I’m interested in what you think the uh the fellas from Los Angeles have in store. That’s a big one for SC now. What kind of confidence you got in their ability up there? Hey, I got all the confidence in my boys. Hey, fight on, man. We going to get get the job done. All right. Hey, listen. I’m going to let you go get to your guys to celebrate. tremendous night. A couple more picks. You’re already up to nine in a young NFL career. Good uh good luck, good health, and uh it’s early, but happy Thanksgiving next week, Kaylin. Thanks for taking the time, man. Yes, sir. Appreciate it. You, too. All right. That’s Kaylin Bulock. Credit goes to first and foremost our defensive line, like for the way they go out, the way those guys relentlessly rush the passer, and everybody on the back end is playing sound and playing together. When we do that, u we’re tough to move the ball again. So, our players are doing an outstanding job. I know you pride yourself on protecting Josh. For him to see him take that many hits tonight had to be rough, right? Be a tough night. All right. You know, probably won’t be be be a be be able to sleep and like when I see the kid get hit and he rolls around all hurt, stuff like that. You know, it’s it’s it’s a tough day for the boys. Like that’s like our little big brother, you know, and it sucks, man. It sucks. I hate losing, you know. We’re a good team though. So I think that uh our best days yet to to come. Damen Woody back with me. You were on some good teams and you were on some not so great teams. You ever on an O line that gave up eight sacks in a game that you can recall? Yeah. How does that feel? It’s not fun at all. It’s not fun at all, man. like as an offensive lineman, you take so much pride in keeping your guy clean. And you know, when you have a night like tonight going up against I I mean the the best the best unit in the National Football League, that’s a tough pill to swallow. Tough tough pill to swallow. Understood. But as you said it earlier in our show, that is a ferocious and terrifying defense if you were to see them later down the road in the playoffs. Houston’s got some work to do. So too does Kansas City. They play the Colts this week in August. If you just said week 12, the team that looked like a playoff team with the Colts, no one would have believed you. For Kansas City to get things right in the remaining games and be a playoff team, if there one area that they have to get better at specifically, finish. They got to finish. And I’m going to go to the defensive side of the football. I think that’s that’s the one area to me is where we haven’t seen Kansas City, particularly on defense, being held held to their standard. This team has really been a defensive team over the past couple years, but it seems like this year they haven’t been able to seal the deal late in these games. Last year we saw the Kansas City Chiefs win a bunch of one-sore games. This year they’re 0 and5. And can you when was the last time when was the last time you can think of that a Chris Young made a critical sack or a critical play on the defensive side? You just haven’t seen it in the fourth quarter. So that’s what I would say finishing games on the defensive side of the ball. on the defensive side. All right, so we have a matchup of division leaders in Chicago. It’s Pittsburgh and the Chicago Bears. All credit to the Bears for how they have gotten to where they are, but this schedule ramps up significantly. They’ve got the Eagles, the Packers twice, the ners, and the Lions. So, credit to where they are. Will they stay there? I don’t believe so. I I think it’s their their team, particularly their defense, is built on the house of cards. They’re leading the league in turnovers, takeaways. Okay. But they’re one of the worst statistically one of the worst defenses in the league. I don’t think you that’s sustainable for the long term. I love what Ben Johnson has done particularly with the quarterback and Caleb Williams is really built him up. He’s playing some really good football. They can run the football, but I think defensively that is not that is a weakness of this team. And in the NFC, and we talked about this earlier, in the NFC where all these elite defenses are, that to me is what’s going to be the Achilles heel for Chicago. I’ve said this, I think on the pod with Stanford, Steve, if they’re as good as their record says they are, they’re going to get ample opportunity to prove. They’re going to show us. Right. Correct. And then we can all say, “Hey, good for you. You demonstrated against the in the deep end of the pool, so to speak.” I think a lot of us, and I know I’m in this group, and I know you are as well, are fans of Baker Mayfield because he’s a tough out. But this Buccaneer squad continues to to to slide as Carolina continues to ascend. Buccaneers have to play the Rams on Sunday Night Football. Is there any concern or level of fear about the Buccaneers ultimately being a playoff team given the fact that they keep losing and Carolina keeps figuring out ways to win? Well, yeah. Listen, shout out to the Carolina Panthers. I mean, look, they’re playing a lot better on defense and and Bryce Young is is looking a lot better. I think the Bucks are going to hold on. They got to get healthy. They got to get healthy. Like these wide receivers got to come back and and get healthy and and Bucky Irvin’s got to come back. He’s been dealing with the injury it seemed like for a while now. I think once those offensive pieces get healthy and available to Baker Mayfield, I think they find a way to hold on. And after they played Buffalo last week and LA this week, they’ve got don’t have a single game remaining with a team who is above 500 at least at this point. So Tampa does have a chance to get right. It’s uh it’s Thursday. A week from this Thursday, you’ll be with your family. I’ll be with mine. I appreciate you being part of my TV family. You know how much I I think about you so finely. And I’ll be I’ll be texting you to see if you’re awake come about 6:00 p.m. and see if you got that nap working. I won’t be. I won’t be. I’ll wait till you wake up. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Happy Thanksgiving, my friend. Thank you, brother. The great Damian. Always a pleasure to be with him. Some significant news out of Cincinnati where for the second consecutive day, Joe Burrow had a full practice. He took 100% of the team’s reps on Thursdays and that’s with a ones. That’s notable. He of course has been out since week two after suffering a toe injury. Now at 3 and seven, the Bengals chasing both their tail and the playoffs down the stretch. Unfortunately for them is painfully familiar. If Burrow does play, he’s clearly an upgrade. But how much better can they really be on offense than they’ve been of late under Flaco? The Bengals average over 30 a game in their last four, even with a clunker last week at Pittsburgh. Quarterback play is not why the Bengals are in their spot. is their defense. Meanwhile, I’m sure Baltimore, who’s got ground of the of their own to make up in the AFC North, is thinking super freaking duper at the prospect of facing Burrow twice in three weeks if he is indeed their starter. You might remember last year the Ravens did beat the Bengals twice, but Burrow threw for 820 yards and nine touchdowns against Baltimore last season. [Music]

So why weren't the Texans playing like this waaaayy b4 now 😂😂
Bills may miss the playoffs!
HAHAHAHAHAHA! 😂
Throwing the ball away like that time you did when it was grounding and they didn’t call it. Face it your coaching staff left you out to dry.
I feel bad for Buffalo's players. Their ownership donated to Project 2025 though, so f them.
Everybody at ESPN picked Buffalo to win 😂
👁️👁️
The Texans defense was unbelievable tonight. If CJ returns & starts playing well, watch out for this team. They can be dangerous if they make the playoffs. I’ll say this. They got to play the Chiefs in a couple weeks on SNF in Arrowhead. They could beat the Chiefs with that defense. That pass rush is lethal. The Chiefs could potentially miss the playoffs if the Texans beat them. I think the Texans are in a great position to make some noise in a loaded AFC.
Texans and Broncos D are in a class of their own this year
Cords don’t have the refs in their pockets as much this year hence the crazy stat difference in one score games
Josh Allen gets way too much grace! There were a lot of years where Brady and Rodgers and even Lamar Jackson did not have receivers and they were expected to deliver!
So is Josh Allen still the MVP after being sacked 8 times and throwing 2 inceptions. 😂
Why are the TEXANS, having so much trouble, scoring in the RED ZONE? Please somebody tell them to BREAK OUT some OLD (BRADY / BELICHIECK) NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS TYPE RED ZONE PLAYS. It's really ridiculous that 9 games into the season & every team, knows your weakness & plays & you haven't countered with something different. BRUTAL. I know they have a ROOKIE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR, but, COME ON….have you ever heard of the TIGHT END? Your AWESOME DEFENSE can only do so much.
Oh no, buffalo.🙉🏈🐃🐃
That Denver win looks even better now!!!!
it was a misdirection dive on 4th down too. takes that much longer to develop behind the line.
Go bronny
General Mills is in charge of the AFC south now.
Texans stunned me. And nice seeing Woody on here
THE BILLS ARE SO TRASH!!! So sick of that team!!!
No help??????
i'm here for the Josh Allen pity and excuses conference..
Will Anderson is a superstar.
Two picks by Big Bad Josh Allen.
When Josh plays bad and they lose, you never hear them drag him as bad as they drag Jalen Hurts for winning. It's bananas
JESUS loves you and died for your sin and on the third day he rose again repent and trust in him
