RUMOR: Mets Preparing a BLOCKBUSTER Trade Offer for Next Staff Ace! | Mets News

The Athletic just gave us an insight into what it would take for our New York Mets to land to reach school. Plus, Anthony McCarron over on SNY details his dream 2026 New York Mets rotation and it is very interesting. We’re going to react live next on Metcast. [Applause] [Music] What’s going on, Mets fans? Welcome back to another offseason edition of Metcast. As always, I am Ray. And if you’re enjoying this content, make sure you like, subscribe, turn those notifications on so you never miss an upload or any of the Mets news that you need to know. And with that said, there’s been a lot of hype throughout this off seasonason, and we’ve seen several small signings here and there. The Mets linked to guys like Devin Williams and Glacius, who just signed with the Braves, returning there on a one-year, $16 million deal. The Mets were allegedly involved with him. I’m sure the conversation went like, “Hey, are you interested in setting up for Edwin Diaz next year?” No. And click. and the phone was hung up on. But there’s a lot of details to get to with the New York Mets. And with that said, I want to bring to you guys the trade proposal over from the Athletic for the New York Mets to acquire back-to- back Sai Young award winner Tariq Scooble. Let’s give it a look. All right, guys. Here we have it. Trade proposal per the Athletic. This could be the potential trade that brings Tariq to the New York Mets. Guys, if you want to let me know your thoughts, make sure you put it down in the comments. I’ll be sure to get back to so many of you. And guys, we also need to remember this trade proposal is based on Tariq probably coming for just a single year and then testing free agency the year after because let’s be real, when Scott Boris is your agent, you’re likely to going to free agency. There’s no bones about it. But here we have it. Jonah Tongue, Brandon Sprro, Jet Williams, and Ronnie Mauricio straight up for Tariq Scubble. And listen, I know it’s a lot. And when you look at the guys, Jonah Tongue, Brandon Sprro, I may remind you, Brandon Sprro’s going to be 26 by the end of this next season. Jonah Tongue, a young promising guy with kind of awkwardness. Does he have electric stuff? In my opinion, no. But I know a lot of people disagree with me with that. Jet Williams, friend of the podcast, who we just had on a couple weeks ago. Yeah, that’d be a tough give up for me. You had Brandon Sproul going into last year with the number one prospect ranking, Williams right behind him. And Ronnie Mauricio, let’s be real, Ronnie’s stock has kind of completely tanked after this last year. He is in the bottom 10 percentile of all base runners in speed. And look, we know the exit velocities there, but he seems to be a guy that’s often injured. Had the bad knee. He’s back two years and he’s still not the same player straight up for Scooble. And listen, it’s very interesting. But I will say this, I’m not doing the deal. I’m not doing the deal unless he’s open to an extension. We can’t happen what happened to us, what happened to the Yankees with Juan Sto. Now they win the World Series. To me, it’s all worth it. one World Series, that’s all I need. It’s totally worth it. But for me, this Mets ball club is so far behind several other teams, including the Brewers, the Dodgers, and and Milwaukee. There’s so many other pieces that need to be added. Now, listen, I’ve been trying to get Byron Bucks in here. You heard Evan Roberts talk about somebody who reached out to them, the Mets, potentially acquiring a guy like Mike Trout. I’m not totally sold on that. The guy hasn’t been healthy in forever. Still was an 800 OPS guy, but the guy is always injured and owed a boat ton of money. But for me, it’s a Byron Buckston type guy who you got to bring in here on top of this pitching. I will be okay making this deal. If the Mets turn around and acquire a Fernando Tatis Jr. where you’re not going to need all these outfield prospects and a Jet Williams. You could still have a Carson bench, but it is an awful lot to give up for a oneyear rental in a pitcher. And how many times we got to see it? Imagine that would have happened with the Orioles or Arizona who just signs Corbin Burns and he blows out his elbow and you’re kind of so you’re out of luck with it. So that’s something that we need to also think of. I want Tariq Scubble here, but if you’re gonna add him, you better add another frontline starter on top of that. And that’s where we get to Anthony McCarron talking about his dream rotation with the New York Mets. Let’s give it a look. He’s back and I feel like Mr. Work on Fantasy Island because he is going to give us the Mets dream rotation for Anthony. So, let’s take a look. Who do you have? All right, Aman. Start at number five and I have Klay Holmes who has had a better year than I think a lot of head fans thought he did. Uh look, he finished second on the team in innings and he was ninth in the National League in ERA. It was quite a transition for this guy from the bullpen even though there was seemed to be a lot of hand 100% agree. Klay Holmes is your number five going into the season. He must have gotten a couple of guys here bringing over him and the length of his starts. Uh he delivered for the Mets this year. So he definitely has a rotation spot for me. Uh coming in at number four, I’ve got David Peterson. Uh look, it was really a tale of two uh seasons for him last year to be a little bit cliche here, Aean. You know, he pitched great. In fact, in early August, his RA was 2.83. Things wobbled greatly after that. I think he might have I’m wondering if he’s injured, maybe too overextended, something we saw last year. But maybe, just maybe, the Mets go to a six-man rotation. Try to give these guys a little bit of a break throughout the year. Gotten a little tired. big innings jump from the previous two seasons uh for him. So maybe that was a factor. With more experience, I think he can deliver big time in the rotation next year. Uh coming in at number three, I have a newcomer for Amber Valdez. He could be number three. He’s my number three. It’s only to Valdez. You’re telling me if you get a scuba or Peralta with him, that could be a great get a lot of miles on him. I’m scared the kind of contract we’re going to be looking at with a Framber Valdez. You’re hearing anywhere from 5 to seven years. The guy’s kind like another whole season on him from pitching so much in the playoffs. Absolute dog on the mound. He had that incident last year with the catcher. Can’t be gone unsaid. But, you know, if he’s your number three, you’re looking pretty good. That means you’re you’re drastically upgrading at the top of the rotation. Break up the lefties and I’ll show you in a minute here. And you’re always back to back with a lefty here, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but you’ll see in a second. Framber delivers innings at a high level. He’s got the second most innings over the last four seasons in the majors. Aim, great ground ball rate. So, if the Mets do really lean into David Sterns’s run prevention and have a good infield gloves, uh, then he’s perfect because he has a very high ground ball rate and he suppresses home runs. All of it adds up to a pretty good third pitcher in your rotation. And now you’ll see why he’s three because he coming in at number two is Nolan Mlan. I’m not letting this guy out of my sight. He’s in he’s in blue and orange for me, Aean, because what I saw from him uh particularly in every start, but his last one was incredible skill. He does something the elite spin rate there is is something that almost no one else in the majors can come close to. So, this is too valuable of a commodity to let go in a trade because they will be trading for a pitcher Aean, but they just won’t be giving up MLAN to get their number one, which is the biggest need of this off season, and that is Tar Scuboo, the Detroit Tigers. Now look, now look, this is what I’m talking about. You want to pull the plug with a trade like that? This is what I’m talking about. You’re adding two frontline starters there. If Nolan Mlan is what we all think he is, that’s a hell of a one through three. You let David Peterson and Klay Holmes battle it out for the fourth guy on a playoff roster or fourth starter. This is what I’m talking about. And the good part about this is out of these five starters, which I’m assuming that means Sangga is traded, these five starters, they are all under control outside of David Peterson going forward, assuming you assign you assign school to an extension. I find it very hard to believe the Mets won’t lock up Scooball if he comes here. Now, I’m not saying they won’t they’ll lock him up right away, but they’re not going to trade all those assets to watch him walk in free agency. This is not the Yankees. We’re going to make it happen. This is the kind of rotation that is what I love to call a playoff rotation. Now, we’re also a few bats and fielders away. You got to add significant defense throughout the infield. If you’re going to retain Pete, which all signs look like they’re not going to, and I hate to say that because I know a lot of Mets fans want to get on me, but if you’re not going to retain Pete, they got to upgrade the defense. Everywhere else, you see the rumors out there. NMO’s available. Sanga’s available. Looking at third base, potentially upgrading in the outfield, first base defense up the middle. There’s a ton of unknowns when it comes to the New York Mets. But I will say this, I know what I’m getting out of the front four in that rotation right there. Maybe not so much Noah Mlan. I kind of know. I got to see it a little bit longer, but I know David Peterson what he is his entire career. He’ll be a three RA type guy right there in the four hole. You know what you’re getting out of Framber and you obviously know what you’re getting out of school. And who knows, a little more juice in the stadium being New York, maybe you get even better performances out of these guys. And that’s what I got with you guys today. Let me know what your thoughts are on that potential rotation heading into 2026. Remember, a lot of people, including our guy Ernest Dove, love a guy like Jonathan Sanucci and some of the other pitching prospects down in the farm. The big chip for me there would be Jonah Tongue. I don’t think the league values Brandon Sprro as much as us as Mets fans considering he will be 26 at the end of this year. Now, I’m not saying I don’t value him. I think he’s got a lot of upside, but he’s got to develop that secondary pitch a little more. And Tongue being so young, I think he’s probably two or three years away if he’s going to be a dominant pitcher. I highly doubt it’s next year. And with that said, that keeps Detroit young, exciting, and still can contend in the American League next year. But again, let me know what your guys’ thoughts are down in the comments. As always, let’s go Mets. Be sure to have those notifications on. Consider becoming a member. God bless. Take care.

  1. I really don’t see the Mets getting skubal without giving up McLean possibly benge as well in addition to other pieces. Tigers have no reason to trade the guy. When they can go for it next year and give him the qualifying offer at the end of the season.

  2. I’m gonna b honest THAT looks like a very good playoff rotation. The question then stands like u said ray, what pieces r we moving in the infield to backup this strong rotation? 🤔

  3. Really don't believe the Mets are doing anything big the off season David Stearns is not going to spend money he's going to go small I know it. I would like them to sign Diaz and Alonso add two more bats maybe bellinger and how about g.Torres for second I don't want to see Jeff McNeil face ever again. And add two starting pitchers we all know this is not happening so be prepared for a boring disappointing 2026 we have to be able to compete with the dodgers I'm almost done with baseball the New York Mets are killing me.

  4. Mets aren’t interested in Valdez they don’t want to bring a potential problem into a clubhouse where they want to IMPROVE the culture. And that’s the right stance-he’s a BAD SEED

  5. This video references arguments that work against trading for Skubal, yet it advocates such a trade. The "we're 3 or 4 position players away" comment after constructing a rotation with Skubal while trading Jett Williams in the deal works against each other.
Why don't we keep Jett and see if we think he'll hold down second base and try and sign Skubal in 2027?
The Mets are not an ace away, and it's foolish to give up this prospect hall for a rental.
