(I actually love LaMelo and think he would look a lot more efficient on a team where he wasn’t asked to do so much) but in the reality of what we actually know and can see, Ryan is a better defender, smarter with the ball, more efficient, and has now shown in all 3 games without Giannis that he can score/faciliate to a similar (or greater) level as LaMelo

Averaging 18 as the second-option behind Giannis Antetokounmpo while only shooting 2.2 FTA per game is actually insane. I know people like to say/joke that free throws are somehow fake and make a player look better than they are (hilariously untrue and stupid), but Ryan is legitamely “learning how to get to the line more” away from averaging like 21, and that’s only if he got to the stripe 5 times a game. If he were able to do it 6-8 times we’d be looking at a 22-24 PPG scorer with good defense, efficiency, and playmaking
I love Rollins but let’s give it some time. We don’t even have half season yet of him getting serious minutes.
It is not a bad take.
Rollins isn’t a true point guard in the way LaMelo is. He’s a combo guard who *can* facilitate but who will do his best work on a team that doesn’t need him to be on the ball all the time.
So IMO it doesn’t make much sense to compare him to LaMelo, but since we’re doing that, LaMelo is the better facilitator and almost certainly always will be, while Rollins is the better shooter and defender.
i saw someone post that lamelo has played less games than ad and zion in the last couple years. thats wild.
light skin blade is legit tho. need him to get to that consistent 20 a game level.
My only gripe with Rollins is that when he gets seriously pressed when he’s got the ball, bad things happen.
edit: I am otherwise a huge RyRo fan
