Jake Oettinger Shines As Stars Beat Canucks 4-2 In Vancouver | DLLS STARS POSTGAME
Heat. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hello everybody and as we welcome you inside let’s get our framing right to the DLS Stars postgame show. A win. Who says you have to dominate a hockey game to win? In fact, you probably don’t. A rope a doe tonight for sure as the Stars absorb pressure most of the campaign but in the end they get a win and an important one over the Vancouver Conucks. We will break it all down here in the next 60 minutes. We have Sean Shapiro, Craig Lewig, Sam Nestler, I’m Owen Newkerk and we get to play the who’s in a hotel room and who’s just in a poorly designed guest room. Sorry Sam. Let’s get to our face off collection first and foremost before we get to all the fun. Look at the shirts. Faceoff collection. Get them now before they go away. I know Luds will be up having nightmares if he doesn’t get his shirt soon. So go to alldls.com. Buy your shirt. Support DLLS and all things good about Dallas Hockey and we will be very happy for your patronage. All right, fellas. What’s our initial thoughts? Let’s go with I was going to say someone in Detroit, but that doesn’t narrow it down enough. So, let’s go to Luds for the initial thoughts. I’m surprised you didn’t change into your Moose Mode shirt. Although, I don’t know if you packed it because that was stunning, but Mo Rantin wasn’t the big story line of tonight, but he sure did give us a highlight. Yeah, it’s tough to jump on anybody’s wagon except the goalender. uh once we get past the halfway mark of the first period maybe um I think we were all a little well at least I was like oh no not not not this again. So, uh, but but I’ll tell you what, I guess that’s a good sign, right, Sean, of a goalender that lets in an early one and he regroups himself. And, um, you know, the the other thing is, well, I don’t know if this was by design or it was just Gully trying to ease off, but there’s not a forward that had a two in front of their number when it comes to minutes played tonight. So, um I I to be honest with you, I think he probably couldn’t find anybody tonight that had that extra little jump, but unfortunately for for this club, they’ve got some guys that don’t need a ton of chances and have to probably play their best all the time to be able to put the puck in the back of the net. And that’s what Ranton and Robo, they they keep on moving along. Yeah. Um, for for me on this one, it’s a lot of this goes to I couldn’t help but watch this game and think about one of the things early in his career for Jay Gottinger for me was he told me how he took a lot of lessons from the veteran goalies he was around early in his career. Um, the Ben Bishops, Braden Holby B, and Anton. He t there’s tonight was a very much I I watched Jay Gotener play tonight and it was very much a lessons of time spent around Anton Hudova. I don’t think it was it was one of those where f the first goal and we’ll talk about it obviously was not not good. It’s a carbon copy of what happened the other night against the Islanders. It’s not a good goal. Um I also don’t think Jake ever really found his footing super well tonight. Like I think technically speaking he was not if you’re going to go through the the the way you should or shouldn’t play the position in a in a technical perspective. I thought he struggled tonight in that way. But he what did we talk about yesterday? I went two days ago now since it’s after midnight where Luds and I are. Um we talked about him being an athlete. We talked about him finding ways to battle and Jay Gottinger had his B had his B game today and he went out and found the way to play his best possible B game and did a really good job with it. And I think that that’s my big takeaway from this because he didn’t get everything all sorted that we talked about earlier in the week, but this is this is how you start doing that. If you if you can be if you can have this game, if you can make awkwardl looking saves in the third period with the right pad where maybe you’re a little slow getting there, where you can get over with the blocker, he did all the right things tonight even if there’s still the work to be done. And so Jake won his B game and I I think that’s a very important skill for a goalie to have because you’re not going to have your aame every night. Sean, you know what it when you say that, it reminds me of, you know, when I when I was blocking a few shots early in the game, you kind of feel like you’ve got the your timing and your rhythm is on a little bit. And then there’s a lot of those other nights where they’re just hitting you and you don’t even want to get hit with them, you know, and you’re actually trying to get out of the way and and maybe that was the kind of night for Jake. I mean, they were finding a way that and I guess in a way he at least was in the net because, you know, you’re in the vicinity of it. So yeah, the other thing was Dallas looked pretty darn dangerous early and then when the second period rolled around, it was kind of as if I the penalties probably didn’t help and the five on three. I mean, Kucks dominated the possession in that second period, but it was 22. We’ll go through and break down all of this. I thought these Stars were maybe a little unfortunate not to have to have the lead at the end of the first period, although they did get into penalty trouble. They continued that in the second, but they did find a way to hang around it. And how many times have we said this this year where this team hasn’t necessarily put in a 60-minute game. And again, we’re not saying that they have to dominate for 60 minutes, but 60 minutes without a prolonged extended period of being stuck in their own zone or giving up quality chances. And yet, they find a way to either stay within a goal or two or get the lead. I mean, this one, the crazy thing is for as well as the Canucks played tonight, guys, they never led. And I mean, we’re talking about a team, guys, like for all of the hand ringing and transgressions about how they’re not playing the right way and everything. Um, check the standings. This team is second in the league right now in the entire NHL, right? Like there is they are 71 and two in 10 road games this year. How about that? They’re second in the league right now in in the NHL. The only team above them is obviously unfortunately a team within their division in the Colorado Avalanche. But even the Colorado Avalanche are only four points ahead of them. Like this is a you talk about I I think I’ve said this about the the Stars team. There’s a lot of things we want them to get better at. There’s a lot of things we’re going to talk about where we have a higher standard we we are expecting from this team right on things. Um at the end of the day, they have shown the skill to win an ugly game. And that is a skill that frankly a lot of NHL teams would kill to have and learn how to have like there’s like luds for you when you when you were playing right what was the and you you you joined m you you were came to teams maybe this is better Dallas question for your time in Dallas because I think when you joined Montreal they were already there but in Dallas when you guys were getting building up to that 99 year in this in the mid 90s wasn’t there a part where you guys had to learn how to win the games like this you had to learn learn how to you had to kind of make that jump of, hey, we can win our off nights. And I think this team, this Stars team has that right now. And that’s that’s that’s an underrated skill in today’s NHL. I think I don’t to be honest with you, Sean, I don’t know if it was so much about learning how to win those games. It was because of a word you said about four times and the word is skill. Yeah. You know, you you have game changers and game breakers on this team and they don’t have to play their best game. they don’t have to play their best week or month and they can still put the puck in the net, you know, and so that’s what makes this team dangerous is you don’t that imagine if they were playing their best game, which again, I think that’s all about the process of leading up to that and and getting to the playoffs uh part of the schedule and having those little bits of pieces put together from in every zone. Um, but I mean the the robo right now Robertson even though you didn’t see much from Wyatt tonight but and again the kids been there every single night but Wyatt and hence and hence I don’t know on a milk carton tonight I don’t know wherever it was but there’s Ranton and but you know and what I’m saying is I guess that they just they don’t need four or five chances to score a goal. They need one or two and and then you have Jake and Jake wasn’t great right in the beginning but then all of a sudden pucks were hitting them and they’re I mean it’s a good problem to have is when you’re not playing your best game and you’re still winning hockey games. What do you guys think about the comment that Razer made on the broadcast? I think it was fairly early in the first period where he said in today’s NHL players don’t shoot for the sake of shooting. Everybody’s looking for the best possible chance. So, a lot of times you don’t, he said, it’s hard to have a a really good save percentage because almost every shot you face is at least a decent scoring chance, if not a high danger one. Do you think NHL players now pass up the shot from farther out because analytics and and the goalie style of today just basically says it’s not worth it’s like almost like a possession change if you shoot from too far out. Sam, I’m gonna tell you, there’s one guy I know that’s not passing up any shots. That’s Robo, right? Sam’s being being accused of not blinking by the chat right now. They want to make sure he’s still alive. Sam, blink for us. Blink once if you’re good. Two if you need help. That’s creepy. Let’s get that one framed for later. Hey, by the way, did you guys see GM Ben just said, “All of our star shirts have been restocked in all sizes.” There we means that for those of you that have been having trouble tracking down I know Jimmy T, one of our dieards for the longest time was having trouble getting a Finnish mafia in an XL and he has it now but if you are looking for any particular Stars shirt, one of the DLS Stars hockey shirts, all sizes available. How about that? Uh Burned Oils wants Sam to blink 182 times. Sam, I can’t count that high. All right. Um, let’s talk about Lean Bishell for just a minute. There was a play, there were a couple plays that stood out. One, it was like watching Blackwell battle with Tyler Myers. It’s not fair. He stepped up uh on the left side right around the blue line on Connor Garland and just flattened him. Now, again, he’s probably lucky if he’s going in at Sam’s height and Bell is a a tower. But then later in the game, how about Bishel nearly uh grabbing the shoulders of the EP25, the defenseman Elias Patterson, and he looked like he was ready to throw down and ragdoll the guy, but then decided, “Oh, wait, no, no, I’m not going to do that.” Love to hear. Somebody else take this one. Anyone else want to bag on? I don’t know where you’re going with this, Owen. I want to hear Luds talk about it because you’re not bagging on him. There’s a real conversation here, right? Because he he’s clearly consciously trying to avoid confrontation in those areas. And you you always talk about the eye contact, right? Even if you’re not going to get into it, there’s no eye contact with Liam Bishop. What what does that mean to you? Well, I again Owen said something about well doesn’t want him taking any penalties, but I don’t think anybody can play that way, you know? I mean, I’m just saying in general, I part of Lean Bishell’s game is a physical game. And if you’re going to play a physical game, then that’s going to if somebody’s there, then you do what you’re supposed to do or what you you know what you’re capable of doing. So, u but but again, like for Lean, he’s still a young kid, right? And and I think he has to he has to be comfortable doing that, but at at some point I want to see him get mad, you know? So, you think that the the whole Corey Perry thing in the conference final last year still lingers in people’s minds? I can see it, but I but I don’t I mean I don’t I don’t think it does for Bishop. I don’t think it lingers in his mind. Well, maybe it does linger in his mind because it it should I mean, if you have to watch it. But, you know, again, I think I think I don’t even think this is should be a conversation with him to be honest with you. I think he just needs to get his game in order, which which it is. It’s getting in order. He’s a physical guy. His timing, yeah, he gets, you know, positionally every once in a while, but again, it it it’s not it wasn’t easy for big players to play 30 years ago in a game that wasn’t as fast as it is now. to be a big guy and playing a game today where there’s all these little water bugs running around and so now your positioning becomes even more uh it has to be in order where you are. And sometimes you you sometimes you have to lay off a little bit from from um putting a big hit on certain players just because of their quickness and the and what what kind of skill set that they have. you’re really just trying to corral them to go into a certain area of the ice where they’re not as dangerous and not allowing them to to get to a good area of the ice and and you know and again that’s part of the learning process for for any defenseman any player you know especially with a guy that that is that big but the one thing that we know the good thing is Leam Bishop wants to hit people you know and so you know that as a forward coming in there that and again anytime that you can take somebody’s focus off of what they want to do offensively to go Oh, well, here comes this guy again. You know, that’s a bit of an advantage that you have. The other thing I want to bring up real quickly before we get to our first ad break is check out the time on ice usage tonight. Now, granted, the penalty trouble the Stars got into affected this in a way, but Miro Hkin led all skaters for the Stars with 28 minutes and 13 seconds. I say for the Stars because Quinn Hughes ended up with 2831. Then you have Esselindell at 2548. Again, you expect those two to be the leading minutes players on the team. Number three, all players, forwards or D. Alexander Petravic with 2206 and then Bishell for the D was number four at 1857. What do you guys think right now? Obviously, I have to ask Luds about this. What do you think about Bishel and Petravic? Particularly Pro with the way he’s played and stepped up with the absences of both Harley and now Labouchkin. I mean, I expected this the other day when we saw who five and six were, you know? I mean, they’re they’re the most veteran guys. They played in the playoffs and um it doesn’t surprise me about Pro because Pro to me, and I’ve said this since the day that I saw him play in the playoffs, so I don’t understand why he’s not in the NHL, he’s just a good depth defenseman. and now he’s a top six defenseman. He’s becoming more consistent and he gets himself in the right places and he doesn’t unlike Bishell Bishell will go running out of out sometimes to get those big hits which again I I have no problem with that. Pro kind of plays a little bit more reserved. I mean he he doesn’t go running across the across the ice to I don’t think he’s thinking about a big hit initially. I think that’s part of Leon’s MO and and again I think that’s a good quality to have. I think when it comes to Petravic, he’s just thinking about more containing and being in the right areas of the ice and I’m not going to get beat. I’m not going to get on the wrong side of people and so and when you’re doing all that stuff and you watch when he gets the puck within two three seconds it’s off his stick. He’s just I mean he’s just doing all the little things and and he’s the kind of guy that Elaine is the D coach is sitting there going dude I can keep putting this guy out here. You want to keep playing like this this steady and consistent this is perfect for us because we’ve got a couple other guys that you know like doing the other stuff. Let me uh let me give a petrific story after the break. Owen, I’ve got story after the break for Sean, you’re learning, you’re growing, you’re maturing, and we appreciate it. Up next in the DLS starts postgame show. Sean has a followup on Alexander Petravvic and a full breakdown and your super chats. And it’s after midnight now in central time. Sean loves to hear my Fenway Park story. But let’s not talk about Fenway Park right now because I have a new story. I use Game Time to buy standup comedy tickets for a comedian in Dallas in March, which I know I’m going to use as a Christmas present. And I know that the recipient is going to freak out because this is a comedian that this recipient is very excited about. It was so easy. You open Game Time, you click on the venue that you’re looking for, or you search the artist if you’re looking for comedy or of course concerts, and it pops right up. I found the date, clicked on it, and in the app, the first offer was one of their super values. It was a great deal. Boom, done. You got them. Super easy. And GM Ben, that is a very poor joke in the chat. You can do better. Um, I’m intentionally don’t have the chat open right now because it’s easier to just focus on this actual show when I don’t read it. That’s why you But I want the Alexander Petravic story I want to share and it’s something that uh credit to Steven Merve who covers the Texas Stars for 100 degree hockey pointing it out to me and something that I’ve followed up with. So he he earned this spot with his play, right? Like he played 17 playoff games in the NHL last year. But when you want an idea for what Alexander Petravic has done for this organization and what he’s been willing to sacrifice, I don’t think enough has been made of. He plays 17 uh NHL playoff games last year. The Stars lose in the Western Conference final. That’s tough. The season’s over. He then by his own choice goes and returns to play for the Texas Stars for for the fin into playing four games with Texas before their season came to an end. That’s a decision most players just frankly don’t make um to the like that is he had no reason to other than to go be with his guys in Cedar Park to go do something right for the organization. And that’s something that I know Glenn Gooson wasn’t part of the the Stars organization at the time, but that’s something that you have his coach in Texas who last year Neil Graham was part of that. You have Ela Nazerdine saw that as well. You’re talking about a guy who every single thing he’s done around the rink within the within the room within this whole group. He’s done every single thing right to be the consmate professional, the glue guy that helps get everything. He’s a guy that every single guy in that room roots for Alexander Patravvic to do well. And so when you have that and it’s it’s to me it’s really cool story-wise when because of injury because of Thomas Harley injury because of Leouchkin’s injury you see opportunity and you see him step up and you see him be kind of be able to take take the ball and run with it and to be able to play well. I mean, I I talked to um Al Alex’s agent is Drew Shore, the former uh former uh NHL. NHL, former NHL, and played in Florida, San Antonio Rampage. Exactly. I could go on. And I remember talking to Drew this summer about about Petravic. And he said one of the things about Petravic is his story is there’s been a couple times in his career where everything has been telling him you’re done, right? Like the signs have been there. It’s like, “Hey, you’re in your early 30s. You’ve been going to the AHL. You’ve been getting the signs from the sports been giving you the signs. You’re no longer an NHLer. You’re going to Europe. You’re going to the AHL.” And he’s continued to he didn’t let that take his game away. He scored the goal earlier this week that was or last week. That that’s a great thing. This is such a cool success story. one of like the it’s been one of like the coolest under current stories within the Stars and within the NHL over the past couple years of what this guy’s been able to do um to kind of earn this spot and reearn an NHL career when a lot of guys would have just left. So I I I have so much time for Alexander Petravic and I just that’s why I want to highlight stories like that. Like you’re talking about a guy this is what he means. He understands the team. He understands the organization. He understands that once he’s earned this spot and he’s done this, he then still goes and plays with that AHL team for four games at the end of last season. That’s why it’s so cool for me to see this and see this opportunity and see him playing big minutes in wins like this. So, I have a ton of time in my day for for Alexander Petravic. John, did when you said he played four games at the end of the season, did he have an option? I mean, was that was it given a choice to him like, hey, do you want to go play and you can you No. Yeah, it was he was this the the Stars the Stars lost to in game five to the Oilers, right? And then um basically Jim Nil happened in that game too. Yeah. Yeah. But ba but basically Jim Nil and Scott White then had the conversation with um and Alex has a family, right? Like and his his the lease had expired down. Young family, by the way, young family. And he basic it was the whole like when they went into go when they went to go to the exit interview part of it he he actually from my understanding on it he actually came up to them initially of like I want to go help Texas still like this is the type of guy we’re talking about. So it was not um nil and Scott White were ready to say hey your season’s over. You’ve earned you’ve earned the break and it was his choice to go to go do that. So, okay. So, Luds, I’m positive he hasn’t seen the movie Napoleon Dynamite, but earlier in the chat, GM Ben was being a donkey, but he made actually a really good contribution just now, and he wrote, “Ryan, if you can pull up the GM Ben chat from 12:15 Central time, he asked, “Do we need a Vote for Pro shirt?” Sean and Sam, you have to pick that up because you we know you’ve seen that movie. We don’t know if Luds has I like it. I have not. That would be a pretty I have not seen that movie. Okay, listen. I beg on Samite. I’m ready for it. Ready for Dynamite, dude. No, I I I’m willing to I’m willing to I have actually not seen that movie. I have seen in the chat right now. How a show of hands. How many of you would buy a Vote for Petravic or Vote for Pro shirt if we had it on DLS? Serial killer stuff. Can I Can I I I understand. I understand the concept, but what are we voting for? I just heard the drop, Ryan. I I heard that barely. Serial killer stuff. It was creepy. What are we voting for, though? What’s the vote for him? To do what? Sam, you never get a chance to to reference pop culture because you usually Sam, have you seen it? Would you like to take this one? We are, I believe, campaigning to get a vote for pro shirt because in Napoleon Dynamite there is a vote for Pedro shirt that Napoleon wears to campaign for his friend running for class president, I believe. I think so. Yeah. So, we’re going to get vote for pro shirts. What’s he running? I’m just What’s the award? What’s the What’s at the end of the rainbow here? How about uh comeback contract? Vote for top two. What’s the vote for? Keeping them around. How about vote for Pat Petro be top six guy and not be the healthy scratch when they’re healthy? Oh, so we’re voting against nils then. Okay, I got it. I just want to see getting too specific here. I I’m looking all these people are saying it depends. Yes, I would buy it. Yes, I would buy it if Ardell said he’d buy it if it’s green. Ardell, you got to open your color palette a little bit there. Let’s take this whole next segment to break this down. We have another super chat that just came in. Chris said he would buy that shirt and catch you a delicious bass. Sean, you will not understand that reference. Um, yeah. And then and then Ryan said, “Ben, you did this. You got us derailed here.” So, yeah, there you go. And then Miss B said, “Pro is better than niloods.” Do you agree with that? Um, yeah. I mean, it I I think in different areas. I mean, Pro can kill penalties. Pro can give you some physicality. He plays good in front of his own net. Um, sizewise, I guess that’s the first thing that comes to mind, you know, and he moves pretty well for a big guy. I thought Niels was good though this year, you know, in the beginning and I thought he was doing really well. He’s a different player, so I don’t know if you can really compare him. Kayla just said, “If you vote for Pro, all your wildest dreams will come true.” There you go. I like it. All right. Um, let’s start the breakdown. We got a couple minutes before our next ad break, but we can get it going. And it begins with one of Sam’s favorite players, Maverick Bourced 55 seconds into the game. But Sam, Justin Ritzovian, perhaps your favorite player right now for the Stars. In fact, lads, we should probably get a super chat fund going just to get Sam a Justin Ritzovian Stars jersey that he can wear with a little foam finger. I prefer I prefer Northeastern Huskies Ritzovian. Of course you would. But this is a DLS star show after all. So, what a play by Ritzkovian. Bour gets an early goal. This is a really bad goal and a bad start for the Canucks. Yeah, they they were a mess. I mean, I took some screenshots of that play, too. In all ways, this should not have been a goal. They should have cleaned this play up, whether it was Lankin or the defense help around him. They made a mess out of it. But the big thing with with Bourke was uh Gooson talked about it yesterday at practice is he the offense is coming, but he needs him to get tighter to the net to the the tighter tougher areas. He’s shooting a little bit too much from distance. Very few guys can score from distance in the NHL. This time Bourke goes right to the net on the on the back door. Gets a chance. Ritzkovian outd sprawling backhand pass to Bourc who once again is right there on the ed edge of the crease gets the goal. It’s it’s welld deserved for Bourc and you know I love the uh Oh, there you go. Perfect. You know, I love the the Ritzkovian effort. I mean to to be able to come out of this uh with this puck and then make the pass quick enough while the Canucks are still in full scramble mode. That that’s incredible right there to see Seabboard. Look at that screenshot. Beautiful. That’s the one that I blanket in his. Yeah, it’s that’s hockey right there. But I just think Ritzkovian’s extra effort rubs off on other people and that’s a good thing to have on your team. Hey Ryan, can you go back a couple of of shots? I I don’t know know how hard it is with Streamyard to go backwards. One more. When uh Sean, I didn’t notice this. Kevin Lankan may have actually been guilty of illegally playing the puck outside of the trapezoid that I didn’t see that during the game. But Sean, he made an absolute meal of that rebound. He actually he made a great save on the first pork shot. He did play the puck there and he I mean he did play the puck out. It was he he did should have been a penalty and um it that’s also he would have been I also wonder um in the moment there if uh because if he freezes that puck there like so he kind of did the thing where he tried to shuffle it under himself. Um I don’t think the refs would have called it because I don’t I don’t think they would have been that uh that far about it. But technically that’s technically that’s grounds for if he freezes the puck there. That’s technically a delay of game because you’re not supposed to freeze the puck. Uh you get a little bit of leeway, but that’s about six feet of leeway. So I I it might have been I mean so I I I wonder in the moment in adding to all the chaos of this I like I I’d love to know whether um while the goalie is spinning the way Luds was right there if he’s hearing if he’s hearing the officials yelling at him to to move it or something like that like I would love to know in the moment of what’s what what volume is going down there because that’s that’s a it’s a weird play. He made a great first save. It’s kind of one of those weird things where that’s his first shot he faces in the game. makes a really great first save and then has just a wonky weird thing where he could have had two different penalties called on him various ways and but I don’t know Maverick Bourke three of his last four goals against the Vancouver Conucks. Uh if he played all 82 games against the Vancouver Canucks, I would never have any problems. So all he has only one more time against Vancouver, so he’s gonna have to find a way with others. Um we’re going to take a quick ad break, but when we come back, we have the other moment from goalending or at least that’s how I saw it. We’ll find out if the other guys agree with me and then the goalending got a lot better here on the DLS Stars postgame show. Ryan, can we pull those shirts up right away? I just want to check and see if there’s a green and a black one up here. I haven’t seen these yet. Oh, yeah. Okay. All right. Oh, those are sharp. We change colors yet. Well, this is the faceoff collection, folks. uh if you’re up this late, I’m sure you know all about the face off collection. So anyways, they’re great shirts and and we should buy them out and then we can move on to the next portion of the faceoff collection. But I just do want to I I think we need to pull up tonight for sure the Moose shirt. I mean, because of the highlight reel goal that he scored. And I think we need to pull up the Jamie Ben shirt because the just the disappointment of the on his face when that one didn’t cross the line for the four. He had his stick halfway up in the air. He thought it was there. He thought it was there. So maybe the captain will get it uh in Calgary against those guys. And say, in fact, I’m calling it in Calgary. So I I say the coach should put Jamie on the top line. put him up there with Wyatt and ran into it so we can just get it over with and then we can move on. Next, do we still have real quick question, do we still have that 400 Jamie Ben graphic that we remember when he scored 4? We still have that graphic lean in Detroit. Yes. When Le second time, wasn’t one overturned too before that? Yep. Yes. Yes. Yeah. He’s going to get one eventually, but it’s not going to be in Vancouver. All right. Uh, I believe it’s Sam for supporters club. Yeah, I’m gonna tell you guys about the supporters club. As L said, don’t don’t blink while you do it. If you’re up this late, you already know about the supporters club. Well, if you’re up this late, there’s 300 of you guys watching right now at 12:30 central time. That’s beautiful. Supporters club is where it’s at. Exclusive emojis, exclusive badges, behind the scenes footage, all kinds of fun stuff. Uh, if you can put LS’s face in the chat, that’s that’s enough of a reason to go right now and sign up. So before we get back guys to the breakdown, I wanted to share something wi with the group and with our viewers because we did a prize picks read. Well, LS will enjoy this one. I tried a prize picks lineup tonight. I keep forgetting to do that. I I did one on a Liverpool game a while ago, which Leds doesn’t care about, but I did star one based on Stars Canucks tonight and I you can do anywhere from two to to six selections in your lineup. So, did you go over six dives per game or what? No, not on this one. I actually did five on a a $20 lineup and I won eight dollars, which also means that I lost $12 because it was a flex play. I got three of five, right? And let me read them to you guys and tell me which ones you think I got. Well, you probably know because you’ve looked at the stats, but anyway. Jason Robertson, more than 0.5 goals. Hit that. Lean Bishell, more than three hits. He had four. Jamie Ben more than 0.5 points. He did indeed get an assist. The two I got wrong and I was sure these were not stretches. Mo Ranton in more than 0.5 assists and Kevin Lankin more than 23 and a half goalie saves. Mo did had a goal but not an assist. Other saves are there. I was going to say goalie saves. Does it actually say goalie saves? I’m actually reading it verbatim. It says 23.5 goalie saves. More than And I’ll tell you what, they don’t count when he makes the save in the trapezoid. That did not count. No. No, it did not. But I kid you not, when we went into this game, remember the Conucks lost 8 to5 in Florida the other night. I thought with the way the Stars lost the game against the Islanders, they’re going to be raring to go. They got he made 20 saves on 24 shots. That’s what uh that’s what bit me in the end. I’m hoping this segment is not going to take us into overtime tonight. Owen has been suspended six games for gambling. No, we actually have a prize picks partnership and I think it was valid to share that I that you lost $12. I I won $8. It cost It cost me 20 to win. 20. Yes. But anyway, but that but I I went for I got $8 back when I was trying to go five for five, which by the way, that particular prize picks would have netted me, if I went five for five, $200 on a $20. Do you know Do you know if you go to Walgreens after 2 a.m., you can get five movie theaterized candies for $5? That’s five for five. I did not know. Oh, I mean, I’m going to I I should expect that you’re going to the drugstore at 2:00 a.m. that that fits your storyline entirely. Yeah. Look, see Chaotic says, “Ow, with that a bad beat.” Yeah, I tell you. I I do also want to Yes. See, Art Ross J winner Jamie Ben a post. Is a post a non-goalie save? No, not a save at all. It’s not even a shot. No, it’s a It’s not even a shot on a goal. How about a have Philip Bronnik that uh denied. Actually, there were a couple. Starscott had a couple goals that were denied by defenseman. We’ll get to that. Let’s break it down, guys. Less doesn’t want to go to overtime. He might fall asleep before segment four. Lenus Carlson scores on a twoon-one rush. I wrote short side bl. You want to know what I wrote? I wrote Coco Cobana has to cool his jets. Sean at the far blue line already falling down and the puck wasn’t even out of the zone yet. But is this not exactly the Kyle Paul Mary goal from Tuesday night essentially? Yeah. Yes, it is. Though is in a three-point stance here, so I don’t know. He’s rushing the quarterback. He’s he’s a three technique. But yeah, it’s it’s it’s it’s the Do we have the uh do we do we have the do we have the graph my my poor graphic design Ryan? Do we have that? That’s what I was hoping. Wait, did you do some some drawing or something? Or is it with the office? It’s the off It’s It’s the office. It’s the office meme. Corporate needs you to find the difference between these two pictures. They’re the same picture. They look They look identical. It’s not as easy for Ryan on our Streamyard platform to do that quickly. But yeah, u in all seriousness though, that’s the one that I mean, Led, you talked about it. Sam or Sean, you talked about it. Yeah. If the defenseman has the passing lane, doesn’t he have to play the shot and not get beat short side on that? Yes. Also, you you know for a fact that the Canucks looked at the last game and they said, “Oh, if you get a chance, you know what? Maybe shoot short side on this guy on the rush.” I’m curious, Sean. Is he I know they actually had Sean’s picture that he drew for our show yesterday, printed out and put in the in the Canucks dressing room. They said, “You aren’t going to believe this DLS stars podcast. They’ve unlocked the secret to Jay Cottinger.” Is it Sean? Is it a positional thing? Is it a reaction thing? Is he making himself small? What is the issue on the on these short side shots? Uh I mean, we talked a lot about it yesterday. One is he’s got to trust the pass is taken away, which he doesn’t trust. And then the other one is he’s just been whiffing with the blocker, right? And that’s that’s a great uh I mean later in the game he makes a pretty good blocker reaction save when the rest of his body is going 16 different directions. So, we know it works. It’s just maybe he’s just got to get his legs dancing a little more, I guess. I don’t Or maybe just has to give up one really ugly one in the warm-up so they can get it out of the way. Yeah, get it out of the way and then lock it in. All right, Leds, let’s talk about Jason Robertson because he has now scored goals in a five game goal streak and a six-game point streak as he has now nine goals in this run. He just can’t be stopped unless he whiffs on the puck, which we’ll get to later. He he he’s just feeling it, you know? I his whole how many times do we see him on that side of the ice kind of use the circle as a guideline turn and shoot cuz and and he doesn’t need to take a look I mean I mean he’s so you got to give him credit because he puck jacks I think it was Sherwood I mean he takes the puck off of Sherwood um and then he just turns and fires it and and I heard Razer on the broadcast say something about that I think he said Meyers had something to do with it wasn’t in in the vision of the goalender so uh that that I could find. So, but Robo just here is where the puck jack is. I I don’t know. Sherwood probably doesn’t see him, but Robo just has so much confidence now that he’s he’s turning and and just he he’s got his spot. He, you know, again, he’s one of those guys that that knows every dimension of the net and he knows exactly where he is on the ice in the offensive zone. So, Robertson scores. It’s a 2-1 Stars lead. They’ve, you know, shaken off the early bad goal from their goalie. That was at 744, the Robo goal. It was unassisted. So was the Lenus Carlson goal. And Dallas is up two to one. But then this was a theme tonight. Stars taking penalties. And boy, did they get quite a few. In fact, they put the Canucks on the power play five times in the game. Kudos to the penalty kill because they gave up a power play goal to the first one which snapped a 13 straight penalty kill success streak and then they stopped the next four which we’ll get to but this one Elias Patterson EP40 gets the goal on an absolutely mad scramble in front of Jake Hotinger. Luds when you watch this goal go in it was Person’s shot at the right post. Sherwood got a a stuff on it. De Brusk had a chance and then finally it was Person. I thought it was De Brus that knocked it in. They ended up changing it to EP40 later in the period. I think maybe even into the first intermission. But is there anything the Stars could have done better on this one? Everything. Well, I don’t like I mean here’s another example. I don’t like how Miro gets boxed out right off the hop. Essa to me is up too high to be recovering and and again I’ll go to Blackwell and this to me more than Miro getting boxed out like this. You know, he just plays loose and he doesn’t he doesn’t want to fight for that ice against people he allows him to get there to start with. But but I don’t like where Blackwell is. I I I find that they want to they worry about the offside guy and if you play in the right spot, it’s hard to get it to him. And so my if you do we got one more shot on that or no? That is that the last shot there, Ryan? Probably. I can’t I don’t know. He’s not talking to us. Um but but if you if you go another second or two, uh Sherwood comes in and gets another whack at that. And that’s because he comes right down the middle and Blackwell’s off to the right hand side of Jake. He’s outside the post on it. And it’s like you’re taking away that that you know the tapin play is what it would be, but it’s got to come through a bunch of bodies and we just let people come down the middle. I’ve been very critical about that that offside guy. Again, if your if your structure is good over here, a lot of times that pass won’t even be attempted because generally it’s not going to get through. And when it does, it usually gets tipped or, you know, I mean, again, but that sometimes that happens when you’re short-handed and that’s, you know, that’s one of the saves that we see Jake make quite a bit. As a matter of fact, lads, I’m curious. Sean talked about it, I think yesterday. Jake’s giving up, you know, the the easier easier shots, short side or whatever. Like it’s always big as a goalie, lacrosse, hockey, whatever sport, take away the short side from where the shooter is because if he picks a corner on the far side, good for him. It’s very hard to do. Defense, you’re saying the same thing, right? They’re giving up the easier path to the net, but because they’re trying too hard to take away the far side that probably shouldn’t get through anyway. Does that kind of go with what Glenn Glen Goldson’s talking about of them thinking maybe a little too much? I I I’ll be honest with you. I don’t know what they’re doing, but this this pattern was how they killed last year, too. Their their their offside forward even when the puck is above the top of the circle and let’s just say to the left of Jake, the right winger would always be pat to the right side of center and and I of center ice. And I I didn’t understand that because if it does get through bodies and it gets all the way over there to that side of the ice, your goalender’s got plenty of time to get across. And unless it’s Steven Stampos or somebody like that shooting the puck, but but I I just think that when you’re in the when the other three guys are in the right lanes, that offside forward who can be down low, but if he’s more in the middle of the ice, somebody doesn’t come down, you know, down main street all the time. And I I just think that I we see that quite a bit. that’s where that chance is coming from. And maybe they’re, you know what, and maybe it’s like we believe Jake can get from here to here to make that save and versus going all the way across. I I don’t know what their philosophy is. But again, like I say, if you have your sticks in lanes and you have, you know, where you’re supposed to be, a lot of times I won’t even attempt that pass. All right, it’s 2-2 in the breakdown. will finish it up and get to your super chats and we will not go to overtime unless you really pay for it and then LS will be very annoyed here on the DLS Stars postgame show. You can already see he’s getting upset. George is getting upset. Well, I’ll make this I’ll make this quick. Um, so you should become a diehard if you’re watching. Those are famous last words, by the way, with you. If you’re watching this, if you’re watching this show as we’re nearing as we’re nearing 2 a.m. on the East Coast and 1:00 a.m. Central time and midnight everywhere else, uh you’re definitely a diehard type person. So, become one. Join this little do this little code. You get to join this awesome community. The Discord is there. We call it LSDAM Discord. I believe we still call it that. And on top of that a long time, we also have there’s going to be a in about seven hours from now, six, seven hours from now, there’ll be a newsletter, right, fresh in everybody’s inbox. So, go to alldls.com/newsletter. See, I knew that without even having to read it off the screen. It’s free. It’s great. Gets you everything you need and uh become a diehard, join the community, and uh let’s get to the next part of this adbreak. The ad break is the balln knower bonus. And I’ve told you guys a lot about this, but you don’t know it. Let me tell you. Very simple. You go to our website alldls.com. You click on merch. Then when you’re there, up at the top, they have a little link that says ballnower bonus. Click on that. You can pick between various games for the week, including Cowboys Eagles. A great opportunity to pick who you think’s going to win. Then you buy $25 or more of merch all the way up to a maximum of $250 from our All City DLLS store. If you get your Ballnower bonus pick correct, you will receive a gift card for the same amount you spent. Basically doubling your money. Effectively, Sean, doubling your money. And in doing so, you get duted up in some wonderful DLS merchandise that frankly I shouldn’t be talking about because Luds enjoys it so much. I don’t want to take away his fun, but that is very easily the balln knower bonus. All right, boys. Let’s finish this one off. Second period, there were no goals, but there were a ton of chances. I thought that the I mean, the Canucks had all sorts of great ones. Sherwood whipped on the second period. Well, we’re gonna go through. We’re going to go fast now. So, there’s no goals in the second period. We can skip them. We only talk about goals with that one. So, we can skip. No, we do not. I How about the save on EP 40 on a rebound with his blocker after he poked Jack Connor Garland and then Garland from the corner tried to slide one behind his back, behind Auter’s back and missed. But that save, Sean. Yes. If you’re still awake and not getting too crabby and grumpy. Yeah, he’s he needs a nap. It’s past his bedtime. Sean, that save by drawer on Leas Person was really really athletic. Yeah, I mean early in the show we talked about I talked about won his B game. That’s one of those where a little bit out of sorts kind of going all over the place and just makes a save as an athlete. And so that’s what I asked for on Wednesday and we got it. So yeah, that yeah, like definitely uh steps in the right direction and obviously a big one in this game. That’s a in this game where the offense eventually came, but they needed them trailing 3-2 is a much different game than being 2-2 going into the third, I believe. Yeah, they were outshot 25 to 14 through two. He was really good in the second. Dam Jason Robertson after they were getting just pummeled with chances. They set up Blackwell sets up Foxa for a wideopen look in the slot. Great save by Lankin and Robo should have scored. He whiffed on it and then he had I think he had enough to score except for Philip Ronic got in his way. Yeah, he that was one of the weirder plays that I think I’ve ever seen. the the the chance the fact that Jason Robertson is scoring on all the shots he’s scoring on and he’s not able to score on right here. I mean, that is so rid and it’s not like he it’s not like he didn’t have the puck and it was in his skates and he just never really got it. He completely whiffs on the shot attempt and then Ronic comes over and gets a piece and and kind of chips out of the way. And watching Robo after that one was was similar to watching Jamie Ben after the puck almost crossed the line for his 400. That is unbelievable that that did not find its way in. Yeah. By the way, I had to Jamie Ben chance. Yeah, that’s a non-goalie save. Sean’s right. Luds, your favorite guy that’s not smart at hockey, but he went to Harvard was a hero tonight as well. His name is Colin Blackwell, and we should give him a moment of praise. I will say though that this was all for me it was mostly Radic Foxa. Yeah, Foxa Foxa recognized that there was a race with him and Quinn and Fox knows he’s obvious he’s not going to beat him by going straight ahead. He turns his back to him, gets Quinn to to bite on that. Quinn’s on the wall and Foxy just throws that little backhand into an area and Blackwell listen he he finds a way when he gets into these areas he’s you know he can it’s not like where you think oh well this one ain’t going in now you’re kind of you’re you’re kind of leaning towards somehow he’s going to get this puck past the goalender and he does again for a big goal you know it’s going high because he has a banana curve on that stick and he can’t shoot 56 degree wedge yeah he can’t shoot anywhere else going he’s got the street hockey Milk one that you just kind of like kind of like worked worked his way in like that. That’s what he’s got. Sean, I’ll give you the first uh swing at the Mo Ranton in goal. Oh, it was pretty. It was pretty. It was uh you talk about that’s why that’s why that guy is one of the best hockey players on this planet. He tried to do it the other night, too, and he got pushed off the puck. Do you guys remember that? Was it uh was it against the Islanders or was it the Flyers where he he tried to do that same move and and I’m trying to remember the defenseman he played it really well and just bodied him off, but look at this thing. Like this is Yeah, this is just let’s just I mean I wish we could play video without losing rights and all that other stuff. So, but this is just a that’s a pretty goal. Nothing really needs to be said about that. Like that’s just you watch it, you’re impressed and you watch it over and over again and it’s going to be in highlight reels for the rest of the season. You know what? When they do playoff packages, previews, like that’s going to be one of the highlights that you’re going to see over and over again and it’s going to be a fun one to watch. It’s it’s amazing how much he gets on that shot. Oh my god. Yeah. It’s it’s a it’s a rocket, you know. It’s amazing. And you know, those guys practice that all the time, you know, and and they he knows exactly where he is. He understands where he is and he knows where that corner is and he doesn’t take a look. He just can he can feel where it is. And if goender can stop it, he’ll go, “Well, good for you.” It’s amazing. By the way, kudos to Jakeer. One last save on de Brusk mids slot from Quinn Hughes, six on five with I think only a handful of seconds left. He gets the win. He’s actually only now 33 and one in his career against Vancouver. many times. He’s been demcoed as have the stars, but Thatcher Demco is hurt again, so he’s not playing. All right, guys. Let’s go to super chats. Let’s see how fast we can get through these ones tonight. There was only a handful of seconds left in this. Yeah. Well, you got a few minutes left, Luds. And you can see the counter on your screen. So, look, this is what I wait for is this this part of the show. Okay, Sam, we’re gonna do one bing bong because it’s difficult on Streamyard. So, you only get to hear bing bong. Actually, Ryan, play it again because I was talking over it. Bing bang. There we go. Okay. Stars at night 99 with a Darien Hatcher and a Jakeer. Jake stood tall and the moose was loose. Star one, two, three. Okay. All three stars, I think. Oh, I see. Jake and the Moose. All three stars. That’s interesting. Chaotic. Thank you for Sam for translating this handle cuz I was calling it something completely different. Uh with a hastinet and a rancid in the moose goal was pure unadulterated filth. Nice to see it happen for the stars instead of number 88 doing it against the stars. It’s a shame only for this goal that we weren’t in the studio on camera because I think we would have a lot of times we’re pretty stoic on goals. I think we all probably would have exasperated some sort of sound out of that thing. Next one is Ardell with a Lwig, of course, and a rantin. Huzzah. Huzzah. Now, of course, we go to Biden’s diaper with a hastkin and a rantin. Diaper had to be changed after that moose skull. I swear that might be one of Lud’s extended family writing in. And then maybe this one because then we go to Craig’s buttwig again with a hatcher and a year after the cup. I’m down a sock after that mo goal. Let’s go. Oh. Oh no. It is guys. It is very much DLS stars after dark. I said it. I didn’t say it. I love Misti 1985 with a Madano and 99 cup year. Glad Stars got the win instead of the Blackhawks in the game I was at in Chicago. They blew a two nothing lead, then lost in re in regulation on a Kraken power play goal after a Bard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. That sounds like a wild night at United Center. He deserved it. Did he? Yes. He deserved it. I’ll have to go back and look at it. Uh Aaron Robertson with a hasten and a rantin. This is here just to annoy Luds. I am very much in favor of that one. blaster again. 911. I was cracking up with that one earlier. And then we have K either Levy or Levy with a hasten and 99 cup here. Oh, and a bet for you. Over under three games for Ben to reach 400. Actually, let’s put this to the panel. Three games from now. Or are we saying three games like as in Saturday against Calgary or saying over the next three games? Let’s let’s go with that. Will Jamie Ben score goal number 400 sometime on this road trip? Sam says no. Sean, I say I say no because unfortunately with the way Jaime’s big milestone goals have come, they come in games they lose like seven to one. And so I don’t see them losing. So, I don’t see them losing a big I like I think they’re going to win like four or five in a row and then have like one s game and that will be the game where it happens just because that’s how these milestones tend to happen. See, it would have been perfect tonight if the Stars had gotten run out of the building in the second period and down six-2 and then Jamie got one back and that’s 400 and he could have celebrated. I’d like also I’d like to see I’m not saying perfect. I’m glad the Stars won. Obviously, the Stars want it out of the way, but it would be really damn cool for it to happen at home, right? Like, there’s a lot of milestone things for Jamie that have happened away from uh 300 was in Boston, and we still don’t know if he actually technically scored it because he and John Clingberg debate, he keeps saying John Clingberg scored it. And so, we don’t really actually know if he’s tracking for 399 or 400 if we go all the way back to to that. So, it would be nice to see it done at home. I think that’d be a really cool thing to for that to happen. Luds, will he do it before the road trip is over? My call. I missed it. What’ you say? He said he want he’s going to score it on Saturday. Okay, I like that. Uh I have been grappling with this since he came back because after tonight he’s played 1,194 games, six away from,200. My hunch is he gets to,200 games before he gets to 400 goals. So I’m going to say no, he doesn’t score on this trip. But I’m cheering for him. As as Sean said, it would be great if he did at home. But frankly, let’s get it over with because he doesn’t want this the spotlight on him for that anyway. Something good to happen in Edmonton. Guys, Calgary on Saturday night. Same late start, same late time, central time. I’m not thinking it’s a big bet that this is the game that Casey De Smith plays. I think they looked at it and said, “Not only does Jake get to play in Vancouver because Casey didn’t have a great game against the Conucks in October, but Calgary is awful. Let’s get him a game there.” And then that sets up for Jake to play against the Oilers next Tuesday with Des Smith in Seattle, his ex team on Saturday, right? Sun, no, Wednesday, whatever day that is. I don’t know. It’s late. And I think that makes sense to you guys. Didn’t Casey play against Seattle already? He played really well and I that would be twice that would be twice that uh Jake doesn’t get to play against Margin. You need to remember that. Monday, Monday, Tuesday, Tuesday. Sam, I get those confused sometimes. And I said his ex team. I’m thinking about Vancouver, not Seattle. Okay. Yeah, I was thrown off for I was thrown off for a second. I was This is why I thought he was gonna night because Vancouver is his ex team, not Seattle. But Sam’s right. He he did in fact blank the cracks. Any final thoughts before we hang up? Me? No. Dynamite. It was good hanging out with you. Always a pleasure. Well, fellas, enjoy your night. We have a day off tomorrow. No show. We’ll be back on Saturday at 8:30 time. There it is. And here is Sean’s graphic design to send you out for Sean, Luds, Sam, and Ryan. I’m Owen. So long, everyone.
