JUICY Miami Dolphins Rumors: BENCH Tua & Start Quinn Ewers? Draft Drew Allar? | Q&A

[Music] We got another Miami Dolphins today. This time it’s another mailbag edition. I am Nick Rolloff. This came on our Monday live show. So if you didn’t get a question in, you want to get a question in, make sure you join us for our live shows on Mondays. So first question coming in from Vinnie. It’s a super chat. Think we can make the playoffs if we go nine and eight. AFC is very competitive this year. Love the channel, bro. specifically the Heat content. Appreciate you, Vinnie. Well, answer, no, I do not. And the AFC is very competitive. You are right about that. It’s also incredibly likely it’s going to require 10 and seven at bare minimum to make the playoffs. And that would require Miami winning out, which I don’t think is very likely. But even if they did win out, I don’t think they would be able to get in because they would need a ton of help. Like if you go on the New York Times simulator and have Miami win out and finish 10-7, they still only have about a 45% chance to make the playoffs. Why is that the case? Well, it’s because you already have multiple wild card teams at seven wins. And it’s likely that they’re going to be able to get to 10 or 11. And the Jags, who everybody’s currently chasing for that final wild card spot at six and four, is in my opinion guaranteed to get the double digit wins. They play the Titans twice, the Jets and the Cardinals in the final two months of the year. I mean, if they win all of those games, that’s 10 wins. And if they just win one more, that’s 11. So, that makes it incredibly difficult to make the playoffs. But if they even lose one of those games and they finish the year 10 and seven, you would have to have the tiebreaker over some of these teams. Baltimore at five and five, you wouldn’t have the tiebreaker over them. So, you would need them to ultimately win the division. and the Steelers collapse, which is possible because you do play the Steelers and you would give them a loss and then have the head-to-head if you won out. But then the Chiefs would have to finish worse than 10 at 10-7 or worse. The Texans, like I I don’t think it’s even that likely Miami wins out and goes 10-7 and certainly would not make the playoffs at 9 and eight. I I will guarantee my life savings that 9 and 8 does not make the playoffs this year in the AFC. Every team in the playoffs will have double digit wins in this conference. What are your thoughts on drafting quarterback Drew Aller if we can get him in the third round? Penn State quarterback. I know he’s out with an ankle injury, but he would be good. Um, coming into the year, Aller was a projected first round pick and if he went to the draft last year, which he was eligible to do, he would have been a first round pick. Ultimately chose to return to Penn State. The Nitly Lions were a top four team preseason. Um, but they stunk and they were doing really bad. But then it went worse when Aller got hurt and Aller wasn’t playing good whatsoever. And now his value is probably a mid-round pick. And I do not think it would be smart for Miami to draft him in the third round. Miami has five picks in the first three rounds, one first, one second, and three/3s. So yes, they have a lot of ammunition in the draft this year, but I don’t think Aller is worth a third. I would take them maybe in the fourth or fifth round pick. And with the Dolphins roster being where it is currently where they need to add a lot of young talent and build a baseline of a roster and so many positions of need at edge, at corner, safety, offensive line, tight end, wide receiver, two, I think it would be smarter for Miami to just utilize those five picks in the first two days to go best player available and build out a better roster rather than targeting a quarterback. Now, if Aller’s there in the fourth round, yeah, I would take the chance on a quarterback that’s 6’5, has a absolute nuke of an arm on him and just hope maybe you can coach up his decision-m processing, his footwork mechanics because he does struggle with decision-m and struggles with his accuracy, but you cannot deny the talent he has in terms of his physical profile and his arm strength. So, I’m interested in him, but I am not prioritizing taking him inside the top 100. That’s where I stand on that. Fill in the blank. I give it basically probably a like 1% chance that the Dolphins make the playoffs as I alluded to to answering Gazer’s question, but you fill in the blank for me. Dolphins have a blank percent chance to make the playoffs this season. Let me know your thoughts. Motorsports, should we add another Wildcat with Devon A at quarterback? No. Maybe I don’t know. Like I know people would be intrigued to bring it back to the Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams days because boy was that fun. Um they introduced the Wildcat to the NFL practically. But and I know we have a lot of running backs where you could do that where you have a chain, Ali Gordon, Jaylen Wright. Uh you’re running the ball effectively now though. Maybe if you want to do it around the goal line, I could be intrigued. And I guess that’s probably what you’re asking, but I’m just going to say no. I’m just going to say no. I don’t really have a reason to say no, though. I don’t have a reason to say yes, though, either. So, I’m just going to say no. Jay plays. I can’t answer everybody’s question with a thousand% anal analyst. That’s that’s my reasoning there. How about Caleb DS if Minka Fitzpatrick is here next season? Mike, even if Minka is here, you’re gonna need add safety because Ashton Davis and Efatu Malfanu are both on one-year deals. Dante Trader Jr. is progressing very nicely and he’s displayed some nice tendencies and flashes. So, I do think you can put trust in Dante Trader Jr. to be either your second safety or third safety next year in Miami. Now, Minka is under contract. I do find it incredibly likely though Miami ultimately moves off of him whether it’s a trade or a release. He doesn’t have the craziest cap hit. It’s like in the teens in terms of money and that’s not the biggest deal because Minko is playing at a very high level. I just don’t envision Minko wanting to be here and I think it could be like a soft trade request if Miami, especially with a new regime coming in at GM, maybe even head coach. So, I don’t know if Mink is going to be here, but yes, I am on drafting Caleb DS. The safety position is one of the most undervalued positions in the entire NFL. I think DS is, if you just take away positions, a top five player in this class. I would put Ruben Bane Jr., uh, Spencer Fo, uh, Jeremiah Love, Caleb DS in all of that conversation if you get rid of the positional value in the NFL. And if Miami is picking between eight and 15, which is kind of where I project them to be selecting right now based on how they’re playing in the rest of the season, if Downs is there in that range, I would have a hard time finding a reason to pass on him because you just go best player available and you find a gamechanging player to add to your defense. So yeah, I would be in on drafting Caleb DS in the first round if he’s available in that range of 8 to 15. More questions to answer here in a second, but this episode is brought to you by Prize Fix. Funny question coming in there after what we just said. And Bradley Chub this off season and what are the most likely destinations for them and what is their value? Well, it’s kind of hard to project destinations, but I can answer the other two part of that. DA Anthony is a great question, though. I just kind of laid it out. I do think it’s very likely Minka Fitzpatrick gets traded this off season because if you bring in a new regime, I think there’s a chance there’s a lot of roster overturn and I don’t think Minka wants to really be the leader of a team rebuilding at his stage of his career. So, I imagine he asked out via trade and I think the same thing with Bradley Chub, but also with Bradley Chub, it’s a lot of financial implications. Minka’s contract isn’t that bad. Chubbs is he currently is slated to have a $31 million cap hit for Miami. If you cut or trade him prior to June 1st, you would then have $20 million in dead cap and only $10 million in savings. But if you cut or trade Bradley Chub post June 1st one designation, you would then save $20 million and only have $10 million in dead cap. So I do find it incredibly likely Miami either trades Bradley Chub or cuts him with that post one June 1st designation and the value certainly wouldn’t be very high on Bradley Chub because of that financial reason. I think you would likely only get a sixth round pick for Bradley Chub. you were only going to get a fifth or sixth rounder at the deadline this past November. I think that’s probably what you would get in the off season. So, you’re not getting much value back for Bradley Chub. Could be one of those pick swaps where you send Chub in a seventh or sixth. Um Minka, I think, is certainly still worth either a third or a fourth round pick. Probably closer to a fourth round pick with another year um under his belt. Gets one year older. his contract now would be on an expiring deal entering 2026. Whether if you traded a deadline, you could have got a third because he still has the rest of this year and another year under contract. So, if you’re asking value, I think Minka is probably at a fourth. Chub is probably at a fifth or sixth slot maybe. And I do think both likely will get dealt, specifically Bradley Chub. I am going to go on the limb and say there’s no way he’s on the roster next season. Another question. Should we bench tour for Quinners if we lose next week? I think Quinn Eers should get multiple starts in December if we are eliminated from playoff contention. So, say Miami um is eliminated mathematically in early December. start quitting because in that case there’s nothing to play for. You’re mathematically eliminated, right? So as soon as there is an E next to your name in the NFL standings, the rookie should go in because with to his contract, you don’t want to risk injury that would potentially keep him out for another year and you have $60 million sitting on the bench injured, right? Don’t want that. So when you’re eliminated from playoff contention, bench to us so you don’t risk injury. But also it is a very crucial part of the year where you can evaluate what you have in Quinners because what if you put Quinners out there for the final three weeks of the year when you’re eliminated from the playoffs and he looks like a franchise quarterback. Now, I don’t think that’s very likely, but what if he does show that? And now you go into the off seasonason saying, “Well, what if yeah, we don’t move on from Tua, but we have him be the backup and Quinn Ears can be the starter and then you just use a lot of draft capital you have to build out the roster around Quinn.” So, I do think you should bench Tua when you’re mathematically eliminated from the playoffs in December in favor of Quinn to evaluate what you have in the seventh round rookie. Should the Dolphins consider bringing back Darren Waller next season? I suppose. I mean, if you can get a one-year Vetmin contract done with Waller, I would be intrigued. Now, with that being said, if you did that poll, there’s really no way I would ever pound my fist on the table for him being the tight end one. He’s getting to his mid30s. He’s very injuryprone. So to me, I don’t think it would be smart to bring him back as your tight end one. But if you wanted to bring Darren Waller back as a tight end two and a guy who can be a very dynamic threat in the red zone, but not play 30 plus snaps a game and only play about 10 to 20 on crucial third and longs where he’s an obvious passing situation or in the red zone as I mentioned. Yeah, I would bring Darren Waller back on a vet deal, but certainly not bringing him back to be your tight end one. I think tight end is an intriguing position for Miami this off seasonason. I think they should potentially look to draft a really talented one in the first three rounds. They have five picks there. What about Michael Trigg from Baylor? I love what I’ve been seeing out of him this season. That I’m spacing on the name, but that Oregon tight end is getting a ton of buzz right now. He could end up being a mid-first round pick. Miamiy’s picking like 14 or 15. Certainly intriguing option there as well. Neils, what do you think about Trader Jeff? And I tell you what, I read this as Trader Joe’s for a second. I love Trader Joe’s, but not sponsored to sponsor us. What do you think about Trader Junior’s development starting him at safety next season? Yeah, I kind of alluded that a little bit earlier with the Ma Fitzpatrick question. Um, he’s had a lot of good flashes and this building is very high on Dante Trader Jr. I mean, Mike McDaniel said on Monday in his press conference that he bumped in the D Trader Jr. um in the building on Monday, and I’m pretty sure the players were off on Monday because they’re on a by-week and they just returned from Madrid. Uh he loves his leadership, and Mike McDaniel believes he’s going to be able to be a starting level, like eight-year veteran in the NFL, and there’s been nothing for me to see on film and this season that would dissuade that opinion. I don’t think there’s a belief that he’s going to be an elite allpro safety, but a average to above average starting safety in this league. Absolutely. I I think you’re probably going to project Dante Trader Jr. to either be your number two safety or third safety next season. That’s kind of where I stand on him and I’m fine with that. Like I I I won’t be scared or nervous going into next season looking at our depth chart with him as safety two or three. I won’t be scared or nervous. I won’t. That’ll do it for today’s show.
