Doc Rivers Postgame Press Conference | 11.20.25

Doc, uh, just to the end of regulation, um, you know, obviously Tyrese goes in to draw a foul and, uh, and tie the game. So, I guess what did you, um, hope to see coming out of that the timeout when you had the seven seconds, Tyrese has the intentional foul and run it again at 4.8? Well, well, first of all, um, we had a foul to give and we didn’t execute it. To me, that’s the difference in the game. Um, if you want to go down to it, they executed the foul to give, we didn’t, and we lose. Um, on the first action, if they don’t commit it, Cuz got a great uh you can Cuz would have been open. The second action, we didn’t execute again. Um, and that’s I thought we played unbelievable. I thought we played hard overall, but our execution at times tonight, and I get it that we have different guys, but but some of them are are we just have to do it. Um, you know, the play was supposed to be an ISO for Ryan coming up, but instead we had someone there trying to set a pick and it’s it just it’s, you know, it’s tough to watch sometimes. So, we’ll work on it. We’ll get better. Um, like you said, you played hard and and and play well. Was it kind of tough to to to see the just the shooting go cold in overtime after sort of finding a rhythm? Yeah, I mean it’s that’s just basketball, so I don’t worry about that kind of stuff. You know, you get good shots. I didn’t think I thought it was so obvious tonight when the ball stuck, we didn’t score. Uh when a play broke down and we moved it and kept moving it, we got whatever we wanted all night. Uh and I couldn’t, you know, you implore them. We worked on that for two days because we you anticipate things breaking down, you know, not having Giannis and uh you got to flash, you got to pass, but when we get stuck trying to that’s just not who we are. We’re not them who have a bunch of ISO players. We don’t have that. And so you have to play with the ball and the movement. Uh the good thing is we’ll watch tape and we’ll see the right way and then we’ll see the wrong way. And I thought it was glaring to see. So I think that’ll be good in the long run. Uh to be clear, end of regulation, 4.2 seconds left. That was supposed to be an ISO for Ryan. He’s supposed to come off that first screen. Okay. Um Maxi with the careerhigh 54. Just what do you see from him tonight that you guys go? No, we played a lot of zone. Uh he got some openings. Um you know, I listen, I could live with it. Like one guy scored 70 and you can win the game. You should win the game. You’ll take it. And I thought no matter what he had, we should have won the game if we had it executed down the stretch of the game. So, uh, but he made everything. Um, he’s tough. He’s a tough guard. He’s got great quickness. Uh, beat us right more than you would like him to, but as as I’ve always said, if it was easy taking him off his right, he wouldn’t be Tarres Maxi. You know, he’s a hell of a basketball player. Um, just the night from Ryan. Um, I know there’s some mistakes in there, right? But also, and that’s part that’s part of it too for Ryan. Um, he’s just playing so hard, so many minutes. Uh and then you know that you know there’s times you know out of a timeout in overtime I think we had AJ Green should that was the play u he didn’t see it u and in his defense he was probably exhausted you know uh trying to run the team and guard Maxi a lot is not easy. Uh I think you closed regulation with Miles and then you closed overtime with Bobby. Just those two decisions. Well Bobby was uh Miles started overtime and then we brought Bobby in. We just thought we needed another score, another shooter uh with movement where Miles was more stationary. Uh Bobby don’t know if it mattered at that point. Some follow-ups on that with Ryan too and his composure. What do you think of that considering all the tests that he has great composure, you know, um you know, he complains to me about he feels like he’s getting hit a ton uh at the basket and he’s not getting the call and you know, he’s like he kept every time Maxi went to the foul line, he kept looking over at me. I don’t know what I’m I can do uh for him on that. But uh I think he he has a case, you know. Um, I thought that one, the last one that he drove and got hit across the arm, you know, he made the layup. You can hear the slap and then the next play it was almost a touch foul down there and they called it. So, uh, you just got to play through that. Uh, he does that though. That’s that’s what’s so impressive about him. I don’t know if you’ve heard the stat. ESPN came up with this thing that you have the number one offense with Giannis and the dead last place offense without him. I don’t think ESPN came up with that. I think that’s the stats. Okay. Well, that’s dramatic. Yeah. Um, this felt like a game that you could either go one of two ways as a coach. It could be deflating for a team or there’s a lot to work on. You could chop up a lot. What do you, like I said, guys, we were shooting 59% at halftime. We were playing great offense tonight. Um, so it just, you know, what I talked about like we’re going to find something during the stretch. I think we will. I think we are. Uh tonight I saw a bunch of things we can do when Giannis is not on the floor. Uh and that’s how you have to look at these things. Just want to ask you Doc about the first quarter that didn’t start off well and you mentioned obviously ball movement being or being the big change, but how did you guys just pull out of that? What did we just stuck with it honestly? Uh you know it’s the first quarter, right? And they got off to a great shot. Uh Paul George had the first 10 or 12 points. Um you know I don’t know what he ended up with but he probably scored 10 more points the rest of the game. Um, you know, we changed matchups as well. Um, zone was huge. Zone was huge for us. Um, I thought that was the factor uh that really kept us in the game. Thanks, guys.

  1. doc just doesn’t inspire winning basketball nor does he demand discipline from our guys. combine that with questionable rotations and we’re left with an incredibly mediocre basketball team :/

  2. While I'm not a Doc fan and agree we need another coach, this ownership and gm are more to blame. From horrible drafts to not pony up to keep the core, PJ Tucker anybody?! Fire Doc is not the answer by itself, Period.

  3. Fire Horst!!’ The man has screwed this team financially and draft capitals. This team is average with Giannis in very weak Eastern Conference and lottery team without . People hating on the wrong guy. This mess is started by Horst!! Team is heading same direction as wizards and nets in the coming years. Can Horst!!!

  4. Maxey just owned the bucks the same thing with Mitchell and Brunson ..who is capable of at least slowdown this type of players?….Andre Jackson jr sitting right at the end of this bucks team every single game…why?

  5. This team now is garbage with a trash coach, lost to a team coming from a back to back embarrassing! Giannis should ask for out come mid-season

  6. I think I hate this guy.

I'm sorry to be that person. The team is not prepared. The team has no identity. The team does not run plays or actions for players, the team does not study film. They are poorly conditioned. The rotations are constantly and radically changing. The substitutions are just stupid.

I couldn't do a better job but someone could.

  7. Excuses. During your career, you were always finding an excuse. Blamed your players, the injuries, the arena, the shower water. Gtfo here, doc. Who keeps hiring this guy? No wonder he underachieves. Who won with a bunch of excuses ready?

  8. Look at these comments and it forces you to hate the fans. Criticism of Doc but no good arguments about what he did wrong or should have done differently. Should have played Turner over Bobby, but they fail to realize that Bobby is one of the few players who can get a bucket on his own, he's 9/14 with 19 and 8. Rollins, Kuzma, Cole, and Bobby is the short list of players on the Bucks who can get a bucket. Down the stretch when your offense is struggling you want Bobby on the floor. Then the same fans are calling for Ajax for defense and rebounding who is atrocious on offense and typically isn't a great defender. Part of the reason they want Ajax is for rebounding, but outside of Giannis Bobby is probably the best rebounder on the team but they don't want him on the floor. Other people are calling to put AJ on Maxey as if AJ isn't one of if not the worst defender on the team. People don't understand that 1 you have team that was built around Giannis and when there is no Giannis that is a problem. Not only do we not have Giannis but we also have no KPJ, which means we're down to 3 ball handlers. This also means we have no choice but to play Cole who has been garbage lately, mainly turning the ball over and missing shots he should be making. Maxie had a game, he wasn't hitting shots because no one was defending him, he was hitting a lot of tough contested shots. It's early in the season, when we get KPJ and Giannis back we'll know what we have. Playing without Giannis will hopefully elevate team play. Does anybody remember how Indiana started off last year, or two years ago how Miami started off when they went to the finals? We're not off to a great start, but it's way too early to start worrying about this team.

  9. Tell me why he says the same thing in every post game interview. About how the ball sticks. Why aren't the players listening to you? Glenn is terrible. Not to mention hes not even using myles effectively.

  10. Bucks need to fire John Horst, I don’t care if we would’ve gone into the 2nd apron or had no draft picks, he needs to be fired for not getting a second superstar to fill in for Giannis when he’s injured. This team is a complete joke and they don’t realize how much they piss us fans off

  11. Can't do it anymore fellas. From 1st in ft differential last year with a somewhat fair whistle all the way down to 29th is enough to pull the plug. Don't know what the reason is, angry at Giannis for staying in Milwaukee, sports betting, big market bias, etc. but the NBA is officially cooked in my book. 40 fts for the Kings against us, 40 for the pacers, 35 for the Cavs, 41 FOR THE FING MAVERICKS. Peace, ya'll enjoy this pro wrestling mafia run bs

  12. Come on coach please sit Cole Anthony he kills games momentum and takes so many bad decisions, play Mark Sears instead
at least I think he wont get that many turn overs and bad shot selection.

Pete Nance can bring shooting some rebounding, Im glad you played Sims.

Another big thing statisticaly the Bucks best Line Ups since last Year have been with 3 to 4 Defensive players on the floor, at
least have 3 Solid Defensive players.

The Starting Line Up had only 2 Solid Defenders with Rollins and Kuzma, Myles can counter but we need players that can switch and recover fast reason why you guys should play Gary Trent instead of AJ Green, cause they killed us with Paul George 13 points early on Bobby.

The moment Kuz went on Paul George he stopped scoring for a while, you need at all times and if you cant at least as much as possible, 3 solid moving defenders, like Kuz, Rollins and Gary Trent (Gary can defend he needs to be more focus, last year he was defending way better and putting more pressure on the guards pushing the ball).

If you just implement this it will work and have Kuz take some Rebounds on the Defense cause with Myles (if he position himself right), Kuz and Sims you should have more rebounds, same thing you need 2 fast Rebounders to protect the rimp at least.

Kuz and Sims are Long, Fast enough and have good timing, Myles and specially Bobby tend to be to slow down low, reason why we lose so many rebounds

  13. Im sitting here scratching my head wondering why the hell didn't doc put Jackson in to guard maxey. Sure he's not an offensive player. But defense wins games. Plus we had enough offense on the floor…doc you gotta start using Jackson…
