You Won’t Believe Tyrese Maxey’s Impact on the Sixers
So, the Sixers have played three games in four nights. And Tyrese Maxi 40 minutes against the Clippers, 38 against Toronto yesterday, and then tonight on a backto back 46 freaking minutes. He’s literally carrying them on his back. In the two victories through these three games, he has played the whole entire second half because he has to. He can’t rest because the Sixers are inept without him. It turns out 126 minutes through these three games plus 20 122 offensive rating. That’s a top three offense in the league pace. Meanwhile, in the sparse 23 minutes that he has rested, -18 in the plus minus category and even worse, 77.8 offensive rating. Easily a worst offense in the league pace. Like it’s not even close. For perspective, the Dallas Mavericks are currently lasted in the NBA for offensive rating at 105. What on earth are the Sixers doing without Maxi? 77.6 offensive rating. That is disturbing. 54 points from Maxi tonight. Let’s break it down. So, obviously, you have to pick up Maxi in transition. He’s constantly looking for these three-pointers. Come on, Doc Rivers. You got to include that in the scouting report. And it turns out Tyrese Maxi is living in transition this year despite the Sixers being one of the slowest paced teams in the league. And it’s because of these three-pointers. 8.6 points per game in transition. Only player better currently is Giannis. Next clip is also a critical part to his performance this year. He just breezes past the defender into the screen and then he relies on a floater. I mean, this is a tough angle, a tough distance for a floater. Not many players have this in their bag consistently. Maxi is taking 3.9 floaters per game, which is 99th percentile, meaning he’s pretty much taking the most floaters per game in the NBA right now. 47.5%. That’s good for 60th percentile. I personally believe Maxi has always been at his best when he takes this floater consistently. Last season he took 2.6 per game at 48%. So he’s upped the volume just a bit, but he’s maintaining the efficiency. This right here just showcases the evolution of Tyrese Maxi. In this situation, you’re probably expecting him to just, you know, go full speed to the basket, but here he does a great job utilizing different speeds. Okay, stop on a dime. Give Cole Anthony the belief that he’s in front of me just to speed up again and breeze by him. Also, when it comes to finishing, he’s just as lethal with his weak hand, his left hand, than with his dominant hand, his right. This is a great play to showcase how annoying he is to defend and how lethal his speed is. I mean, Ryan Rollins does everything correct. He avoids the screen. He sticks with him, but Maxi, because he’s just quicker with the basketball, he still gets near the basket. And still, if you’re the Bucks, you live with that coverage. I mean, you got Miles Turner in his grill. You got Ryan Rollins behind him. That’s just an incredibly tough shot. And it shows how overpowered the floater shot is. And now here off the basketball, the key is creating contact here with Ryan Rollins to set up the angle so Ryan Rollins runs into Trenton Watford. Every big has to display this type of coverage against Max to get above that three-point line. Whoop! Under the arms of Miles Turner. Fake to the left, step to the right. Euro Steparoon. The shooting talent he is just isn’t fair. Next time he steps a little bit further back and he’s actually at the real logo. Sixers actually get a stop. So they get a cross match in transition. AJ Green on Tyrese Maxi. What do you think is going to happen to this poor scrawny white boy? Can we also discuss and admire his defensive effort in that second half trying to get back into the game or are you kidding me? It’s just wild. He plays every single minute of the game and he still looks like he has the most energy out of everyone on the court. The Bucks were playing this hideous zone defense. It was only working because the Sixers couldn’t shoot outside of Maxi. And he was living off attacking these closeouts. Left-hand floater and this time a left-hand reverse layup. And now look at this. He’s pointing at his teammate just to distract the on ball defender. Make him fall asleep. See you later. Good job staying in front. Guess what? Behind the back. I’ll take this midi. Thank you very much. He’s a legit three-level scorer right now. 1.8 mid-range shots per game. 87th percentile, 43.8% from the field in the mid-range, 64th percentile. Also, this is why Paul George being out there is so important to him because if it wasn’t Paul George, he’s getting double teamed immediately in this action. And Bobby is dancing. Look at the freaking range. Fourpointer. Oh no. No. White boy on him again in transition. And guess what? Another left-hand finish. and one. Originally a charge, but they reversed the call since he was on the restricted line. And also AJ Green fouled him with the swipe through move. His stamina is just incredible. He’s just moving way faster in the guts of the game. It seems like Ryan Rollins has that Gatorade symbol next to him on this play. He’s just slow. And this is a great way to end off the video. Destroying the scrawny white boy on a closeout. AJ Green really making me feel at home in this video. I’m not going to lie. And then the lefty scoop just so smooth. Oh, by the way, he also had nine assists in this game. He’s up to 7.9 per game. That’s ninth in the NBA. He’s not an advanced passer by any means, but off his scoring gravity, he’s getting his teammates open looks. And I just think as he ages, he’s going to get better and better. And the best quality as a passer is he doesn’t really turn the ball over that much for how much attention’s on him. 2.8 8 turnovers per game. That’s the least amount of turnovers for every player ahead of him in the assists per game category. By the way, he’s actually number eight because LeBron is number one currently because he had 12 assists in his debut, but he only played one game. He’s not going to get MVP, but he definitely deserves consideration like being in the top five. I got Joic, Shay, Luca, Giannis would be there, but he’s going to be out of there since he just got injured. And then after those players, I think Maxi’s up next, he’s at least top five. And he definitely has the best narrative out of any of those players. Like, think about it. Joel Embiid and Paul George, they’ve been out. And when they’re back, they’re on a minutes restriction. They can’t even close the games. And he has the Sixers 9 and six. McCain is as rusty as can be. Maxi’s consistent second best players have been Quinn Grimes and VJ Edgecom who’s a rookie who’s very raw and Maxi’s literally playing 40 minutes plus a night. That’s the definition of an MVP. And I think if the NBA was smart, they would really be promoting Tyrese Maxi because they’re trying to get away from the loan managing era. He’s doing exactly what the old heads they did back in the day. He’s there every single night and he’s treating every single game like it’s a playoff game. And quite honestly, every single Sixer game feels like a playoff game if you want a regular season to gain more traction. You must reward this type of behavior from Maxi because quite honestly, this might hurt him in the end. He might run out of gas during the playoffs. I just really appreciate Tyrese Maxi. He’s giving everything he has. It’s awesome to watch and it’s refreshing. That being said, I wouldn’t mind cutting his minutes a bit and, you know, getting some blowouts. So, Joelle, Paul, George, McCain, can we get healthy, please?

is maxey in the mvp convo? ***Btw I accidentally read his midrange stats from last year the percentage is the same but he’s actually taking 3+ attempts per game my bad it was late lmao***
47min…🔥🚶♀️
I said a few months ago he’d be a mvp candidate and the best guard in the east and people laughed
Maxey the MVP man 😤❤💙
Maxey would be a better face of the league than both Ant & Ja. I think Shai is a good role model as well
Now this definitely ain't fair 😅 he's absolutely in the MVP conversation, but unfortunately I don't think he has the popularity around the NBA and since NBA is a league of favorites, the voters will vote for the usual 3 or 4 guys like SGA or Jokic or Giannis. We really need to build around Maxey and in my opinion try to unload some of these bigger contracts like Embiid and get what you can. Some mid market might take him to sell tickets or something, and I like Embiid, but ppl need to understand hes never going to be 2023 Embiid again. We gotta turn the page.
“What do you think is gonna happen to this poor scrawny white boy” 🤣🤣
TICKING TIME BOMB TILL HE GETS HURT, NURSE IS RUNNING HIM INTO THE GROUND, OUR GUY NEEDS HELP!
You keep mentioning he’s not gone get MVP cause sha and jokic but they had to get it at some point when there careers began maxcy has improved every year already been name an allstar if the sixers get a top 4 seed in the east maxcy could get it
Sixers would probably be 1-14 without Maxey…
i've been skeptical of maxey's ability to be the best player on a quality team and if this holds im happily proven wrong. He looks like he's taken a much bigger leap this year than the year he won most improved player in my opinion
Dude hasn't scored fewer than 21 points in a game almost 1/5 through the season. He is truly a top 3 pure scorer at every level in the NBA right now.
Close enough, welcome back Allen iverson
I agree with everything you say, but to get a ring, he would need to improve on cross court passes, entry passes, high level pocket passes in tight PNR windows, left to right skip passes to the weak side, and also advanced pre-rotation reads hitting the lift man early in shake action before the slot defender stunts. That said, he wasn't drafted to be a PG, and today's maybe the wrong day to bring it up lol.
