How 2 NFL teams are winning the game of inches, stealing yards on the ‘dynamic kickoff’

  1. This has a paywall, as it’s an Athletic article. Tried to make an archive link but I couldn’t figure it out 🙁 If anyone is willing to help with that, it would be appreciated.

  2. I said it to my buddy a couple weeks ago (which doesnt have proof but it my truth). Jason hardly ever kicks a touchback, Which with the new rules is huge. Having the chance to tackle the ball carrier well before 35 yard line helps the defense and sets up better field advantage in the case of a 3 and out

  3. Amazing turnaround on special teams after a lot in this sub were calling for Harbaugh’s head.

I’m so glad the team kept him and dropped Grubb (who I fully expected to get another shot).

  4. Read it for you. Two cool things:

Point 1: Myers has both a long accurate kick that the receiver has to watch out for around the 5, and a short knuckle-ball kick that is harder to catch. Since the kick could be either type of kick the returner can’t cheat in one direction.

Point 2: a lot of weight on our success is because that idiot in game 2 let the ball bounce off his hands and it rolled into the end zone and we recovered it for a touchdown. That’s a Pop Warner kind of mistake for a returner.
