[Feinsand] The Mets and outfielder Tyrone Taylor have agreed at $3.8MM to avoid arbitration, right around his $3.6MM projection.

  1. I’m completely fine with this signing. Tyrone is a great defensive CF. We all know his offensive limitations but he was supposed to be a 4th OF (or at least a CF platoon) last year before injuries forced him in the lineup regularly.

  2. The Mets were 66-47 when Tyrone Taylor played and 17-32 when he didn’t. And Tyrone Taylor led the team in AVG with RISP. I will continue to annoyingly state these stats until next season starts.

  3. He has such a sweet looking swing when he actually makes contact with the ball. Surely a better hitting coach could unlock some more of his offensive potential…

  4. For the value he provides in the field and on the bases, I’m happy to have him back. Anything he provides with the bat is icing on the cake.

  5. Easily the right move, especially with Stearns focused on run prevention. There’s a lot of valid debate over what caliber player Tyrone Taylor is, but I don’t think there’s much valid debate to be had as to whether he’s at least the 5th best majors-ready outfielder we have and will have a role to play on the current roster.

  6. Good bench player, bad everyday player. Though I will take bad over the complete ass we got in the second half (don’t ask me what the distinction is)

  7. Amazing how big the gaps can be in contracts. Taylor vs. a bunch of guys making 7-10, he might be better.

  8. Works for me Need more production out of LF though if you are going with a purely defensive option in center

  9. Good to have a good defensive outfielder in a late inning situation.

I hope they are working on getting a full time CF now.

  10. I know he’s a bad bat, but his defense is superb, and for some reason I always felt like he actually did get a lot of hits in those extreme clutch situations.
