In today’s NBA matchup, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers gear up for a marquee showdown against Kevin Durant and the surging Houston Rockets. The Lakers currently hold the fourth spot in the West while the Rockets sit just ahead at third. Will Houston set the tone early or can LA turn this into a downto-wthe battle? Watch the full video to see how it all unfolds. [Music] [Music] has a bit of an old school feel to it, doesn’t it? These teams love to run things down low. Yeah, it’s going to be a heck of a matchup, Kevin. A little bit of bully ball, you could say. Having a center you can run your offense through makes the rest of your offense that much. Oh my goodness, what a play. Oh my. Rocketing off the deck. Thompson showing that youthful exuberance. Jen passes to Smart and the shot goes down. H works well there. Not much resistance from the D. Yeah, that just comes down to a lack of effort. The defender has to do a better job fighting through the screen. Lobed up there for Thompson. And it’s Thompson with the jam. Chemistry at its best. An unreal though. You’re right. The pass, the catch, the dunk, all of it. Perfect. [Applause] Don with it. Pass to Reeds. LeBron James on the wing. Here’s Aton and then jammed down as he goes right over a men Thompson. Goodness, DeAndre Aton. Welcome to the highlight reel. [Applause] Here’s Thompson. [Applause] And now just over a minute played here in the first. Outside Durant Shenon with a screen on Reeds. They grab their own miss and oh boy a lot of contact there but he gets the call and will shoot two. That one on eight. Incredible for his age. The decision making of Shenun Ga is very impressive. So calm when he sees a double coming. reads and reacts with ease when he’s on the block or at the nail. Reminds you of a young Joic with how he sees the game. [Applause] The free throw dropped for Shangon. And you can never really count out these Los Angeles Lakers, Greg, can you? No, I I I really don’t think you can. They they battle out of the playin tournament. They overcome obstacles and they have tremendous willpower. [Applause] Off on that one. So, he goes one for two at the line. And Alberon Shenun continues to prove himself R.J. is one of the games most promising big men. Oh, a lot of it is because of his passing ability, Kevin. Shades of Nicola Joic out there. Having a big net who could distribute like Shangon is a real luxury. The Rockets have gone two or three here to start off the game. Durant finds Shangun. Some solid defense from Eightton. And he’s usually able to score on that type of defense rather easily. surprising to see him come away empty. And how about the out of this world athleticism? LeBron can finish just about any alley hoop with authority. Now about two minutes gone here in the first quarter. And now we’ll go to David Aldridge who had a chance to talk for JJ Reddit. I asked him about his team’s plan in trying to contain Kevin Durant. He said, “I don’t think you can contain Kevin Durant. Our focus is trying to have him take tough shots and hope he misses most of them. We’ll see if they can put any pressure on KD tonight, guys. Okay, David. Thanks. For Los Angeles, they’ve gone three of five shooting the ball so far. Eighton a screen on Thompson to the inside and throws it down. With his length, Aton can easily get to the rim. In fact, he almost makes it look too easy. And so it’s Thompson with it. He’ll bring it up for Houston. They trail by one. Shenun with the screen for Thompson. Pass to Shenun. And Shenon throws it down. He gives up a bit of size at the center position. But his leaping ability, well, let’s just say that makes up for it. And so Donic will bring it up for the Lakers. A screen on Thompson to the paint and Aiden throws it down. Talk about perfect execution. Aiden on the same page with his man there. And in this first quarter about 3 minutes played, KD passes to Shenu. Now Thompson guarded by Donic. Fires the three and that’s good. Kevin Durant for three. Guys, no one team gaining control early on. Yeah, and you look at the lead changes. Six already. Los Angeles has gone 0 of two from deep here. Steps back from the line. LeBron can’t get it to go. You can’t look at the result of that shot. They’ll take that whenever they get it. Yeah, it’s a great look for him. One they’ll try and manufacture again. Those are the shots you want him to take. Aki, the pass to Durant. Six on the shot clock to the right side. [Applause] Here’s a Kogi and it’s LeBron James with the rebound for Los Angeles. They’ve gone five of eight from the field shooting over 62%. And that one clearly a foul. Gets the whistle and two shots coming up. And Richard, you’ve watched LeBron James over the years. His approach never waivers. It never changes. He is all business all the time on the court, off the court. The consistency of his focus and mental toughness is unbelievable. [Applause] Free throw good. LeBron R.J. last season LeBron passed 40,000 career points. Uh do you think we’ll ever see someone get even close to that number again? Probably not, Kevin. Not in my lifetime. You have to understand you’re going to have to score 25 points a game for 20 plus seasons to even have a chance. LeBron, he’s one of one. What I appreciate about LeBron is how much he loves being a leader. He knows how much his teammates count on him. Smith against LeBron. And Durant gets it to go. The assist by Smith. Durant’s got five. And we talk about the importance of versatility. He’s really got it all on the offensive end. It’s stolen by Smith by himself and it’s slammed in by Smith. Okay, Jabari Smith taking it all the way on his own. [Applause] Lakers trail by four. Outside Smart back to Donic. Nice passing here by Los Angeles. Pass to James. Eighton a screen on Smith. Lets the three fly. LeBron good. He’s got seven. When you’re guarding LeBron, you have to give him something. So the King, well, he’ll take a three-point basket. Thompson against Donic. Thompson passes to Smith. And he’s fouled pretty hard on that shot, but he’s got the chance to pick up the points at the line. That’s on LeBron James. A darn good free throw shooter. Smith doesn’t seem to have a weak spot coming into the lead. And some stats here, guys, is the scoring breakdown for the Rockets. Well, they’re off to a good start getting it inside and scoring at close range. Solid fundamentals so far in this one. And one other thing they’ve done well today, guys, share the ball. I mean set up teammates and just playing unselfishly. He drove good Smith to RJ the Rockets last year they were exactly at 500. 41 up and 41 down. Still they missed the play in by five games. In the East they easily are in. That just tells you how difficult a rebuild in the Western Conference is and Houston is up against it. Smith hits them both. And something you see with the Lakers, they really trust their role players, don’t they, Richard? Yeah, LeBron does a great job of empowering his group. That’s why he’s top five in the league all time in assists. If you earn his trust, he will give you a ton of space to work. The Lakers know that they can only go as far as their great group of role players. Durant kicks to Shangon. It’s hauled in by LeBron. And you can see the defenders afraid to kind of get in his way a lot of times when he’s on his way to the basket, but on that one they were there. He’s a nimble guy for someone with that size. Aiden can get off of his feet quick for a lob. And we’ve got a timeout called from Eay Udoka. Looking for a breather and maybe just one or two things to talk about. [Applause] And there’s Supreme Dreams. Very happy to be seeing the Lakers winning. And he’s a huge NBA fan and he puts out some really funny basketball related content as well. Houston’s gone one and two from long range in the first quarter. [Applause] pass to Thompson and the officials will call the illegal screen right there. Well, when a pick like that is questionable and creates that much of an advantage for the offense, you have to blow the whistle. You got to blow the whistle when it’s that obvious. Great call there by the official. And the Lakers making a change here. James has checked in and the Rockets making a change here as well. EN’s check in. Back to James. Shoots from 12 and he makes that one. James has got nine. No question James is the green light from anywhere. That that mid-range is just another area where he’s dangerous. And Thompson throws it down. Taking matters into his own head. Yeah, we didn’t expect to see that kind of finish. A point guard getting up like that. Boy, that is special. And so James will bring it up for the Lakers outside. Smart. James finds it. And that one good. 10 points for him. Punch, counter punch. Impressive offensive production early on. You have to think at this point the winner will be the one to settle in on defense. Pass to a Kogi [Applause] takes it off the glass. And guys, they continue to put a lot of pressure on the interior defenders with their work down low. [Applause] The Lakers in the lead. [Music] James outside. That one no good. Great defense that time from Shenu Thompson right side. Stolen by Smart on the wing. Reed still yet to score and it’s James missing. So it’s the Rockets now. Thompson passes to Shenu. [Applause] Some solid defense from Eightton. Los Angeles has gone two of four from beyond the arc to start the game. The latest now from our sideline reporter David Aldridge. David, it’s all yours. Take it away, Kevin. The Rockets are making progress. Coach DOA said, “It doesn’t happen overnight. Changing habits and things like that takes time. Guys learn and grow at a different pace. My thing is getting us all on the same page. We’re not that far off, Kevin. They sure look like they’re building in the right direction, David. They are. And some good vets have helped as well. And we thank you for that report. Pass to Eon. Teardrop shot and they call the foul. So a chance at the line for one more coming up. Oh, perfect timing there to knock down the tear. The Rockets shooting their fifth free throw of the game here. Both teams will make substitutions at the line for the Rockets. Shooting one. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] That free throw good from Een GA. If you look back at the Rockets history, so many all-time greats have spent time there. Yeah, it’s an impressive list, right? Elijah Juan, Moses Malone, Calvin Murphy, and Harden. Houston’s well represented in the Hall of Fame. James kicks to Donic. Shot clock at five. over Holiday. Donic. No good. See that miss? That miss right there. It’s why teams try to avoid the mid-range jumper these days. Een finds Holiday. Adams with the screen on Himura. Here’s Shepard and trying for the go-ahead basket. It doesn’t go in. Holiday against James. Pass to Hayes. [Music] Here’s Laorabia. Here’s Don and foul on the shot. So, he’ll get a chance at the line. And we’ve talked about the skill. Donis has polished his game at a very young age. And that pump fake was a seasoned veterans move. shooting two. [Applause] First one falls forward. RJ, the Rockets don’t just have young talent, they have elite young talent. Yeah, you can have all the high draft picks in the world. That doesn’t mean you’re going to hit on the right guys. But Houston, they certainly have. [Applause] He’s perfect from the line this time. The allaround game of Donic is impressive. A walking triple double threat every night. Pass to Shepard. Back to Holiday. Adams sets the pick for Holiday and contact on the shot. So, he’ll be shooting free throws here. Really the right play defensively. If you can’t block, force them to the line. The Rockets shooting their sixth and seventh free throw attempts tonight. Yeah. And and fairly decent a season ago about 77% from the line. [Applause] And he makes the first. [Applause] Both free throws good from Holiday. Probably as close to a sure thing as you can have at the free throw line. [Music] Donic against Holiday. Now here’s Donic. He’s guarded closely. Front pass the arc. Straps in the tray. Donic has got five. Thanks again for tuning in. If you’re just joining us, we played through one quarter of action so far. And guys, what do you think about the offensive approach we’ve seen so far for Los Angeles? Well, so far their long range shooting has been the story. Doing damage from deep. They’ve out hustled the opponent so far in this one. A lot of points in the open floor and that’s giving them the advantage. Lakers lead by four. Luca Donets out there with James. Then it’s Ruy Hatchima. Then it’s Jackson Hayden. And it’s Labraia in at the three spot. That’s who’s in the game for the Lakers. James gets the bucket. And KD’s got the ball here for Houston. Adams sets the pick for Durant to the middle. and Adams with the slam. I like how Durant keeps all his options open, kicking the ball to another guy when he doesn’t like what the pick and roll gets him. LA has gotten a success rate of just over 50% from three-point tonight. Four of seven shooting. Here’s Donic. Don J with a strong move inside. If you give him an inch of space, he’s going to make you pay. [Applause] Rockets trail by seven. Pass to Shepard. Back to Holiday. Here’s Shepard. Puts up a three. trains it from beyond the ark. Pick works well there. Not much resistance from the D. Yeah, that just comes down to a lack of effort. The defender has to do a better job fighting through the screen. The three for Dunic and it’s KD with the rebound. And for Houston, they’re shooting around 60% of the night. Amazing work offensively so far. Los Angeles leading by four. Pass to Lorravia [Applause] takes it inside. Oh, look out. Look out. Oh, that’s how you finish. And the instincts there from Hachimura. Notice the overcommitment by the defense and then makes the right pass. [Applause] Every year, Greg, we get a new batch of rookies into the NBA and sometimes we’re all guilty of judging them too early. Oh, absolutely. I think we need probably three years to evaluate a player. You know, fans and media can can be a little harsh at times, but not everybody develops at the same rate. Donic kicks to James [Music] and the layup’s good off the glass. James has got five points so far. No settling for an outside shot there. They went right to the hoop. Rockets trail by six. Quarter two and just under two and a half minutes gone by. Adams with the screen on James. Here’s Sheepard. And it’s Houston with another. Now James, he has five. [Music] Donic with a screen for James. The faders and it’s good from Donic on the assist by James. Donic has got four points this quarter. Adams with the screen on James inside. That one’s in there. The Lakers lead is cut down to just four points in the bucket from Adams. going to need to contest Adams’s shot better than that to prevent him from scoring. He He’s too physical down low. And here is Donic. Nine points in the game so far. Here’s Hayes. Sinks the triple. Hayes has got the lead up to seven now for Los Angeles. Rockets have gone five of six so far from the field in the second quarter. Adams sets the pick for Shepard and he can’t answer back. The three-pointer offline. Los Angeles has gone five and nine when they put up the three-point shot tonight. Hayes up top. Pass to James and James throws it down hard. Wow. And that sort of showmanship is just deflating right now to a team trying to get back into a game like this. Ouch. Greg, that is definitely an emphasis jam. A big apostrophe or exclamation point, maybe even a question mark. Whistle blows. Bucket is good. He’ll have a chance at the line to make it a three-point play. Used the pick to perfection and got all the way to the rim. Great. Kentucky native Reed Shepard followed in his dad’s footsteps and stayed local for his college years. How cool was that? His dad, winning two national championships for the Bluegrass State, was named the MVP of the 98 College tournament. And he even had a brief stent in the NBA. Reed, the third overall pick of the 2024 draft, blazing his own trail. [Applause] that free throw good from Shepard. Los Angeles leading by six. [Music] Here’s Donic. Nine points in the game so far. Lets it go with a three. That shot is off and close to making the defense pay for the lack coverage that time. Pass to Shepard. Now Adams. Now Smith, [Applause] tries again. And Smith with the stuff. And guys, we’re going to see a lot of that from this young man. Smith right now beasting. [Applause] Los Angeles has gone two of four from three-point range so far in the second quarter. Donic with a screen for Smart. Back to Donic. Six to shoot. Here’s Aton. Thompson with the rebound. And it’s Thompson with the ball. He’ll bring it up for Houston. Four-point game. The three from KD. No good that time for Los Angeles. They’ve gone seven for 10 here in the second quarter. They’d like to keep up that nice pace. Smart passes to Donic. Now here is Hetime Mura. Here’s Hayden. It’s good. Now he’s shooting six for seven. We’re seeing the full range of Aiden’s offensive skills tonight. The big man’s putting on a show. Rockets trail by six. Now here’s Thompson. He’s got eight. Pass to Smith. [Applause] Good work defensively by Hatchim. Lakers have gone eight of 11 from the field in the second quarter. Really flowing here. Adams. Some nice D. Houston’s gone one of three from way outside since the start of the second quarter. [Applause] Donic against Thompson. Goes straight to the defender for the dunk. Draws the foul. He’ll go to the line. Rui Himura picks one up for Houston. They have been coming through at the charity stream. They’ve made seven of their eight attempts. Houston making some changes. Shenun checked in for Steven Adams. Trey Een comes in for Kevin Durant. And a Kogi subbed in for Shepard. Shoot him. [Applause] is leading by four. The three from LeBron. James connects from deep. He’s got a lot of weapons, but a sharp one is that little pullup game. It’s so dangerous. And timeout is called by Eime Udoko. He’s made the decision he wants to huddle up with his guys. [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Smith on the wing. Covered by LeBron. Here’s a Kokei. The shot that time not on target. Good work defensively by Smart. [Applause] James absorbing hits on the drive. A monster down low. LeBron James, the rare package of skill, size, and athleticism. I now send it over to the sidelines and get a report from David Aldridge. Kevin, thanks. For the NBA, content continues to be king. Commissioner Adam Silver says the biggest issue for streaming services is what’s called churn. To cancel is just a click. So, it’s more payforplay these days. We have to focus on people staying with you and having great content throughout the year, Kevin. Yeah, you know, he’s doing a great job, isn’t he, David? Thank you so much. Smith outside. [Applause] Pass to a Kogi. Shot clock at six. Houston needs to get a shot off. Here’s Smith. The Lakers with the rebound. Payton’s got five rebounds tonight. Down low. Shoots from the right block inside. LeBron puts it up and through. Making the D look helpless. James is just locked in once he gets this close. Pass to a Kogi. Smith feeling it out a bit. Trains the three-pointer. Smith’s got nine points. Yeah, it’s such a sweet three-point stroke there and it can really open things up inside because as good as he shoots it, it forces the opposing bigs to have to step out on the perimeter. Smart on the wing. Oh, in position takes the alley pass and dunks it down. Oh, phenomenal alleyoop slam there. They are taking advantage of a team that looks lost out there. 139 left in the first half of the game. Thompson outside. Pass to Eon to the middle trying to find Shangun. He gets it to him. Out of bounds. The Lakers will take possession. Dorian Finny Smith checked in for Houston. Number four, Dorian Finny Smith. And it’s Smart with the ball for the Los Angeles Lakers. And here is Aon. We’ve got 118 left in the second quarter. Vincent’s shot is good. And the dime going to Aton expanding the passing part of his game. Pass to Aobi. Back to Thompson. And it’s Thompson with the jamo. And didn’t do anything fancy there, but didn’t need to. Nope. He his only concern right now is getting the points on the board. And I I don’t mean style points. Weaves the pass to Eightton. Now LeBron. Some nice passing here by Los Angeles. Knocked away. Pocket six. Here’s Vincent. He’s covered by Thompson. A second chance effort and it’s eightton missing. Rockets trail by eight. Smith outside. The shot and game clock separated by four over Smart. And the Rockets getting another bucket right there. And that’s a nice shot from mid-range there. Smith must continue to knock it down at that level. Reeves outside off target at the rim. That first half we saw a pretty tight battle. We’ll soon find out what sort of adjustments were discussed during the half. It’s been a clinic out there by James. And how about the amount he’s contributing in the scoring column through two quarters. He has been terrific. He always wants to be a go-to guy for them. I’m sure he’ll be calling for the ball even more in this half. And if you’re just joining us, we’ve played through the first half in a game that’s been fairly even so far. Starting the second half, here’s Eime Udoka’s five. The post pair form, it’ll be Smith and Shangun. Then it’s Thompson, then it’s Durant, and it’s a Kogi in at the two. Eighton with it over Shangun. And there’s Eightton. And that’s good on the assist by Reed. Eightton’s got the first bucket of the third here for Los Angeles. Pockets trail by eight. Durant dishes to Thompson. And there’s the Wow, that is powerful. Tenacious on the attack. Thompson is fantastic at finding lanes to the basket. [Applause] LA has gone six of 12 from outside. A very nice 50% mark shooting the three ball well and it’s Houston on the break and that one is stuffed right through. And that’s how you do it guys. Ball pressure and then get some run outs. And with a little over a minute gone, the second half is underway. on the wing. Reeds Donic against Thompson. The three from LeBron. The shots good on the assist by Donic. Donic has got his fourth assist in this one. Pass to Shenun. Shenun with a screen on Donic and stolen by Eaton. They get a hand on it. Durant with the steal. Now here’s KD. The fast break opportunity. Thompson finds Shangon and James picks up the foul. That’ll be his second foul of the game. First team. [Applause] Here’s a Kogi guarded by Smart. Pass to Smith. Down to five on the shot clock. Stolen by Reeves. Ill advised pass on that one, guys. I mean, he had to know there was a man there in position to get that turnover. Here’s the screen. Smart wide open. He fires and it’s off from three-point range. [Music] Here’s Thompson. Rebounded by Smart. I think the defense will live with him taking mid-range jumpers, but maybe just a little bit more resistance. When it comes to the league’s most physical defenders, Richard, look no further than Marcus Smart. Yeah, he’s someone that has no problem sacrificing his body, whether that’s taking charges or diving after loose balls. He is relentless. Two free throws coming up and they call the shooting foul. It’s going to be on Alpin Shenu. Every coach’s dream. Smart. He’s a high motor player. That’s a high IQ player. That combination just can’t beat. [Applause] First free throw is good. Well, Marcus Smart is the pulse of the team. He plays with passion and does whatever his team needs from him. [Applause] [Applause] Second free throw, no good. And Kevin Durant, one of the top 10 scorers in league history. And RJ still going strong. And he does it with efficiency. Kevin takes great shots and he’s incredibly accurate. And if he doesn’t have a look, he’s a willing passer. No hesitation from the swingman. Durant has such confidence shooting off the catch. Tremendous. Reeves outside. Pass to nice ball movement here by the Lakers. Donic with it. Now defended by Shenu and that one good. Once Donic gets inside with the ball, he’s halfway there. Then he just uses his strength to finish the job. And timeout is called by Eudoka. Wants to regroup and go over the strategy. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Just under three and a half minutes played here in the third quarter. Outside KD that’s in coming off the assist from Thompson. Thompson’s got his fourth assist in this one. And defensively, what can you really do against KD right there? Los Angeles leading by four outside. Smart. [Music] Reeves the pass to LeBron. Tried to answer back, but that three is off the mark. Houston’s gone two of two from long range in the third quarter so far. It’s tipped with the steel. Smith against LeBron. It’s rebounded by Shenun. Shenun’s got his fifth rebound right now in the game. Smart with the steel. Pass to LeBron. No good on that one. Smith with some nice deep. KD with it now. Guarded by Eightton. Durant against Reeves. puts one up from 19. Good on that shot. And with that, the Los Angeles lead is cut down now to just two points with that basket from Kevin Durant. James outside back to Donic [Music] and there’s the call on Amen Thompson. That is his first foul of the game. James checked in for Austin Reed and the Rockets making a change here as well. Shephardd’s checked in for Josh Akogi. [Applause] [Music] James in the post. Shang covering and James gets it to go on the assist by Smart. Just a heads up play by Smart Pushing the ball ahead. He knows not to hold that ball when someone has a good look ahead. And KD’s got the ball here for the Rockets. Trailing by four. for three. That shot missing and he didn’t punish them for the weak coverage there, but they can’t count on him to continue missing. And a wide open look for James. A three-pointer is right on target. James has got five points now in the quarter. And the lack of effort to fight over the screen there makes that an easy shot. Yeah, as soon as these guys feel contact, they are just disappearing like they’re not even there. You got to show some fire to keep defending. And Thompson throws it down. This one has been all about Aman Thompson, a freakish athlete. When he gets rolling, there’s just not much a defender can do. [Applause] Thompson against Donic. Eight. A screen on Thompson. Donic kicks to James. This one for three. It’s rebounded by Houston. [Music] Now Thompson. He’s got 16. Pass to Smith. Shepard with the ball. Shenun with the screen for Shepard. Back to Smith. Just five to shoot. Misses the three. Lakers lead by five. Donic dishes to Smart inside and stolen by Shenon. Smart against Thompson. Smith kicks to Thompson. Yes. And it’s Smith with the assist that time. Thompson’s got 19 points. Defensively, you have to live with Thompson making those because if you get up too close at the arc, Almond will blow right by you. Elbow shot is on the way. The Rockets pull it in. Shenun’s got six rebounds in the game. Out to Smith for the lead. The rebound by James. The Lakers have gone five of 12 from the field since the third quarter got underway. The three for Donic. Donic sticking it from way outside and normally near the top handling the ball. Luca sneaking out to the corner there, getting free for three. Rockets trail by five. Here’s Shepard. He’s got eight. [Applause] Thompson looking for an opening. Score the basket for his 10th make. 10 for 12. 83% accuracy. And obviously his momentum from the last game has carried over here tonight. He’s just riding the wave of momentum right now. Getting to his spots and keeping things simple on the offensive side. Eating a screen on Thompson near the three-point line. It’s Donuch. He clings that one off the back iron and down it falls. And and guys, the intelligence is evident when the pick comes. Donic often makes the right read. Here’s Thompson. Count it and he’ll have a chance for a three-point play. It’s on Luca Donic. Yeah, heard the whistle and then kept his focus and able to still knock it down. Rockets have gone seven of nine from the free throw line tonight. So, both teams making some changes here. Thompson [Applause] One shot. [Applause] Thompson. No good on the free throw. Los Angeles leading by three. James. The pass to James. And here’s Hayes. Shangun covering. And Hayes kicks to James. Nice ball movement here by the Lakers. Knocked loose. Benson with it. Basket counts. And Vincent’s got his second bucket of the game to go. Okay, let’s throw out the analytics for a moment. When he’s taken the mid-range, it’s a winning shot. Sheepard the pass to Een. Now here’s Shenu covered by Hayes. Here’s Thompson. [Applause] Pass to Shepard. The three and he’s good on the three ball. Shepard’s got 11 points. And what kind of defense was that? You can’t give up wide open threes like that. What are you doing? Hayes the pass to Vincent. [Applause] Now James with a powerful jam. Look, a coach is going to trust LeBron James to just put up monster numbers cuz that’s who he is. But it is nice to see him get into a nice groove like this. There’s 48 seconds left to play in the third. Pass to Shenun. Thompson outside by Finny Smith. Here’s Shepard to count the basket and the foul. It’s on Bronny James. How about how he sets his man up there, runs him right into the screen, and then gets the basket. For Houston, they have made seven free throws and missed three in this game. The Rockets making a switch here. Holidays checked in at the line for one. Find the lanes. Find the lanes. One shot. [Applause] And the free throw. No good. Los Angeles has gotten the three-pointer to fall to the tune of 50% here in the third quarter. They’ve made three of six. that one go. Just count it. He’s got six. They didn’t have much of a problem getting the ball into the post that time. 23 seconds left here in the third quarter. Now Shepard 13 points in the game. to the paint. [Music] Here’s Shangoo. He can’t. Come on, everyone. Well, this has been a great contest so far and I imagine the fourth quarter could have even more action in store for us. We’ve got Ruie Hatchimic out there with James. Then it’s Jackson Hayden and it’s Labraia in at the three. That’s the Laker five. Here’s Chase. Oh my goodness. The slam. And this sort of awesome dunk is one of the reasons this team is in charge of this game. Well, there’s a swagger out there. You can see it on the court that they possess and are not afraid to show it either. Pass to KD. Fires top of the key. Right through the cylinder that time. All net. KD’s got 10 points here in the second half. And here is Donic. Outside James. Here’s the floater. And the rebound goes to the Rockets. We played just over one minute here in the fourth quarter. The 19 ft shot slides through for his seventh basket in 11 tries. And sometimes you just assume ahead of time Durant’s mid-range Jay is going in downright lethal. Pass to James over Sheepard. Another miss by James. Rockets have gone two of three from the field to get the fourth quarter started. We’re just over a minute and a half now into the fourth. to tie it up. Second shot opportunity and it’s Shepard missing. Wasn’t a lot of resits there at the rim. He just he just tricked off a little bunny and stolen by Een. [Applause] [Music] Pass to Sheepard. [Applause] We’re about 2 minutes into the fourth quarter in this one. Here’s Durant using his length inside Durant. Oh, come on, Katie. Go easy on him. Goodness. [Applause] And there’s the call. It’s going to be an illegal screen. And that is an absolute heartbreaker of a turnover. In a close game like this, that might be enough to impact how it ends. Smarts checked in for the Lakers. Thompson, he’s checked in for Houston. Houston’s gone seven to 15 from three-point range tonight. They’re not afraid of that shot. [Music] Holiday looking over the floor. Adams sets the pick for Holiday. Six on the shot clock to take the lead. Shooting foul as the whistle blows. He’ll shoot two free throws. Not the last time we’ll see that. Adams is so powerful and loves to take it to the defense. Shooting for Houston. Steven Adams at the line for two. Shooting two. [Applause] That free throw. No good. [Applause] And that drops. So they now lead by one. And hey, he did just enough to get the lead. That’s what’s most important. And JJ Reick is called. Timeout. Wants to make sure everybody’s coordinated and intent. Lakers heading to the court. It’s time now to hear from our Hall of Fame reporter, David Aldridge. What’s the latest, David? Hey guys, JJ Reick’s message with his team was simple. With the game in the balance, coach was calm in the huddle. His main message, execution. He told his team to make sure to remember what they talked about during shootound. We’ve got a great ending in store, guys. Thank you, David. [Applause] Hatchima finds Donic. Pachimura against Een. No one near Donic as he lets it fly. And again, no good by the Lakers. To the inside. Got a piece of it. It’s stolen by Hatchima. Donic outside. Hayes with the screen for Donic. Six to shoot. Back to Himura. Here’s Hayes. Shock up two there and the Lakers lead by one. And guys, here in the fourth quarter, still a close game. Instant classic, fellas. This one could come right down to the last shot. We played just over three and a half minutes now in the fourth quarter. And that’ll be two free throws coming up. Officials on the call with the foul. And with his movement skills, Thompson routinely catches defenders out of position. And a moment now to quickly take a look at the offensive approach for Los Angeles. All game long they’ve been making it rain from the arch. And look, they’ve done it by feeding the hot hands. And they’ve really been able to get out in transition and produce. The defense hasn’t had an answer for this uptempo pace. No good on the free throw. And the Lakers making a change here. James has checked in. [Applause] And he’s good on the second. And you can see that even though he ties the game up, disappointed he couldn’t give him the lead. cuts it fly. Kevin Durant with the rebound. Durant’s got his six rebound on the night. The kick out to Holiday. The Rockets again can’t hit. And so it’s Dunich with it. He brings it up for Los Angeles. They’ve given up just eight points in the fourth quarter. A three. Basket made. That gives him seven field goals in 13 tries. Nothing better than a hustle plate like that. It gets the whole team amped up. Sets the example for everyone. Pass to Adams to the paint. Here’s Thompson and he drops in the layup off the glass. That’s now 26 points from Amen Thompson. We see this night in and night out. Thompson uses his size and elevation to make tough shots in the paint. pays the pass to James and James throws it down. And guys, I don’t know that this is the time for that kind of flare in a close game. The important thing is to get the two points, not necessarily the dramatic. Oh, come on. He had to go for that, didn’t he? My goodness. Here’s Holiday. It’s hauled in by Los Angeles. James has got rebound number five here tonight. Stolen by Thompson and it’s the Rockets on the break and the dunk by Een and we could have been looking at a two possession game but that was a huge mistake on the turnover. Now nerves becoming a factor. The Lakers have gone four of eight in this fourth quarter shooting an even 50% from the field. Haiti against Smart. Pass to Hatchima. Shot clock at six. Here’s Donic. Donic gets it to go inside. And it doesn’t take much for Donic to get hot. And And once that happens, boy, he is almost unguardable. And we’ve got a timeout called from Eay Udoka. He’s clearly intent on wanting to lock in and make sure everyone’s on the same page. pressure. Some changes for the Lakers. Eighton, he’s checked in for Jackson Hayes. James comes in for Hatchima. And it’s Austin Reeves in for James. Houston also making some changes. Shenun’s checked in for Steven Adams. Jabari Smith comes in for Jari Een. And a Kogi subbed in for Aaron Holiday. Pockets trail by three. Shenon kicks to Durant. Thompson passes to Smith. Back to Thompson. Outside Durant go. Here’s a Kogi guarded by Smart. Pass to Thompson. [Applause] Houston moving the ball around. Here’s Shenon. The Rockets with another miss. Los Angeles leading by three. James finds Donic. Oh, the lob is smart. Thompson against Donic. The shots good. Thompson’s got 16 points here in the second half. It helps that Thompson can score with either hand close to the bucket. Defenders can’t force him to one side or the other. Now here’s Smart. [Applause] Pass to Donic. Eight and a screen on Thompson. The three for Donic. It’s rebounded by Shenun. Shenun’s got his seventh rebound of the game with that last one. [Music] A shot by Thompson and no one’s around. Good on the triple. Thompson’s got 31. Time running low, guys. And uh somebody has got to win this one. Yeah. Well, who knows? We might need overtime in this one. It’s been that kind of a game outside. Smart LeBron outside from deep. LeBron with the response from three-point range. I’m sorry. Just who else would you want it shooting there? LeBron James just so calm under pressure. Hands to Smith. KD on the wing. Three-pointer. Smith with the basket on the assist by Durant. And the Rockets lead by two. And this is a statement bucket. If you weren’t excited about Smith already, how about now? Durant with the steal. Oh, here comes Kevin Durant all alone and KD burns it down. They needed points and KD comes through. Who else did you expect? Los Angeles has gotten off four three-pointers in the final quarter and two of them a fault. Payton finds Smart. Donic with it. Fires for three and another three for the Lakers. So players shrink when the pressure is on, but he lives for these moments. Donic against Thompson. Here’s Shenu and he gets that one to go off the front iron. You love how each side has risen to the challenge throughout this one. Man, this has been a fun one, but who doesn’t love a high-scoring game? Reeves outside. Good. And the assist goes to Reeves has got the game tied up here for Los Angeles. Excellent additioning the rock. Luca with a nice feed. Thompson against Donic. Thompson with the bucket. Thompson’s got 10 points now just in this quarter. And you want him taking big shots for you in big moments. That one was as easy as it gets. Yeah, it’s clear why they go to him in these moments. They know he’s going to deliver for him. Smith against Donic on the bucket. How about the poise from Donic right there? He he ups the Annie when it’s a critical possession here in the game inside. Here’s Shenu money. Well, you just love seeing a player with absolutely no fear. He knew what they needed here and was determined to deliver. Here’s Smarts to get it to Donic and does over Thompson. No good. Off the back of the rim. They came close there to tying it up. You love the intensity out there right now. Close game. Both teams leaving out there. You don’t need experience if you have guts. The young fella gets thrown right into the action. Smith Jr. wants to be here in late games. And JJ Reick is called timeout. Coach clearly feeling the necessity to regroup with so much at stake here. There’s 39 seconds left in the game. Here’s Donic and Thompson sends it back. And now they decide to foul intentionally. [Applause] 32 seconds left in the fourth quarter and they go to the intentional foul. [Applause] So the first one drops and that puts them up by five. So he goes two for two at the line and it’s a six-point ball game. I’m not going to lie, that’s big making all of those giving them a little bit more breathing room. And JJ Reick calls timeout here. And that timeout by coach was carefully measured wanting to make sure that everybody is on the same page here. [Applause]
