Insider Drops BOMBSHELL Celtics Trade Report…

An NBA insider just dropped a bombshell Celtics trade update as with the Boston Celtics still trying to find their identity. Brad Stevens is active in the trade market and we have the latest details behind it right here on Celtics Digest. Welcome in everybody. I’m Jason Andrews. I appreciate you hanging out with me and tuning in to today’s show. got a good one for you here as according to New England Sports Network, we have a update on the Celtics trade plans and kind of their activity level thus far into the season. Before we get into it though, make sure you hit that subscribe button. It’s 100% free. And of course, we’re going to bring you Celtics coverage throughout the entirety of this 2025 26 NBA season. Whether it goes one way or it goes another, we’re going to be covering all of it right here. So, speaking of this season, we know the Celtics have been um kind of at an interesting spot. Obviously, with the past couple past couple games facing the Nets, the Clippers have the Nets here again. It’s been a better stretch and they’re getting to a point where you can feel somewhat confident about their ability to maybe make a push for the playoffs or play in at least and the potential for Jason Tatum to return in that play in or playoff is there. However, there is also some lingering thoughts that maybe this team isn’t worth going all in or trying to do that. And so, knowing that, it seems like Brad Stevens has made a decision on how he views this team and really what he wants to do in terms of the trade deadline and kind of the thought process as an of the the next steps for the Boston Celtics to be back to that contending level they were the past three, four seasons. And so that’s where we go for today’s report. As New England Sports Network, as I mentioned, Nessen, saying the Celtics are reportedly active in trade discussions, quote unquote, the Celtics are working the phones. Okay. Okay. So, this is intriguing to me. Now, we have to go to the full report and kind of talk about what was said and and kind of all around what what what is happening through this. And so, that’s where we go to the first quote here. Adam Taylor of Nessen saying quote as such Boston is now expected to be an active participant in the trade market both leading up both leading up to the February 5th trade deadline and again in the 2026 offseason end quote. Now there are two different thought process in that quote alone. The first one is the trade deadline here for this season. The second one is the trade deadline or not the trade deadline but the trade aspect in the off seasonason. And so Brad Stevens obviously as the GM he tends to be is very proactive is searching already for deals, searching for news and kind of thinking about what are the guys that he would want to maybe trade away or be willing to trade away. What are some assets that he wants to bring in? What are some assets that he’d be willing to give up? Well, here’s the official report. NBA insider Matt Moore saying, quote, “Boston is routinely mentioned as a team that continues to canvas for opportunities. It’s tough because they aren’t willing to take on money after their cost cutting efforts this summer, but they remain one of the more opportunistic teams. End quote. And so that’s kind of the um let’s say ins and outs right now of what exactly is the expectation for the Boston Celtics. Are they willing to maybe trade away some of their players that they acquired this off season and make a move that could um maybe save them some money still? That’s kind of where we have to continue on with this and really talk about um some certain players in some certain aspects. So, the first guy is Anthony Simons and we know that that trade was made for getting rid of Drew Holiday, but Simons has had some good games. He’s also had some not so good games. And this season, I would say that his value would be better suited if the Celtics could find a trade partner. That’s just my personal opinion cuz is he going to help the Celtics cause next year? Are they going to try and keep him or retain him? I highly doubt it. At this point, he’s playing almost 25 minutes per game and averaging just less than or just over 13 points per game. Like there’s nothing here that says, “Yeah, we want to keep him.” Like the offensive ability of Simons was the big thing, but now to a point he’s not even starting regularly with the Celtics. Jordan Walsh has taken over some of that spot. I mean, there’s been multiple guys who have come in and started over Anthony Simons. And so that’s kind of where we look to the tradable assets that Brad Stevens has. Again, Matt Moore saying, quote, “Stevens has multiple tradable assets at his disposal.” The Celtics own their 2026 draft pick and have a string of young talent to dangle in discussion. Boston also has Anthony Simon’s $25 million expiring contract, which could be enticing for certain teams around the NBA. That’s why you have to talk about Anthony Simons because in terms of what we’re looking for at the offseason, it’s probably not going to be trading Anthony Simons obviously because he’s on restricted free agency. So you can’t trade him then in that point for the season for the inseason trade deadline. He’s the number one guy I’m looking towards for really so many different reasons. I don’t think his value is there. I don’t think that there is a lot of prowess to him in terms of what the Celtics could use later on. And so the question is, okay, they’re going to trade somebody. They’re going to try and trade Anthony Simons. What is the decision-making here? And that’s where we continue on. The harder part will be deciding what type of trades the Celtics need. If Stevens is aiming to reposition Boston as a contending roster for next season, he may need to go star hunting. However, if the aim is to sustainably round out the roster and let things progress naturally, long-term upside and talent will likely be the primary remnant for the scouting department.” End quote. And so, as such, I started to try and figure out and scour the internet, okay, the Celtics are in trade talks. Anthony Simmons seems to be the most likely trade asset, at least for the inseason talks. What are the trades that the Celtics could go out there and acquire slash? Who are the teams that would be interested in getting Anthony Simons because of his expiring contract? Either for one reason, keeping him on for a what would hopefully for that team’s championship run or if they have money left in the books and they want to try and sign a young potential star. That’s where we have this trade. And this is one that I liked the most. There was four different potential trade packages. Um there was the Magic, there was the Kings, there was a bunch of different things. Ultimately, this is what I went with. The Magic is a very real opportunity as well. The Magic expressed a lot of interest in Anthony Simons. So, make that known. But Malik Monk and Isaac Jones in conversations, the trade for Anthony Simons. The money works here on this trade calculator and you get a shooting guard that could definitely potentially help. But I think again this is a popular trade, but is it one the Celtics will be willing to make? 23.7 minutes per game, averaging just 12.5. In theory, Malik Monk is just a one-year older Anthony Simons with a little better defense. Now, does he fit the game plan of the Celtics more? Yes. Is his contract better? Yes. Is Isaac Jones attached to this? Yes. Does the money work? Yes. So, in terms of all that, there’s a lot of positives to this trade. But, however, I couldn’t find a trade that I liked. But although Malik Monk is mentioned here and that’s like the best trade in the four that I saw, the one that I think is most likely in terms of where Anthony Simons could end up slash what the Celtics might be looking for, it’s probably going to be the Orlando Magic. That team is in a position where they could use some depth help given the injury history from last year. Um it’s kind of starting to do it again this year in some aspect and they’re in legitimate conversations to compete in the East. I know Detroit is doing well. Toronto is obviously up there, but in all reality, the Boston Celtics sitting down there just below the playin slash on that borderline of the playin, they’re not going to need an Simons, especially on his expiring contract where the Magic could use him that the question is what would you get? Would you get a pick? Would you get a player? Um, and that goes back to the question of for Brad Stevens, what’s the goal in all this? What is the goal to make this Celtics team better in the upcoming season? What is the goal to make this team be in the in the next season? Like what what what do you want from this team? Are you wanting them to be this top tier team that can compete in the contending line? Or are you trying to maybe build for a longer term success and have a long-term plan? Ultimately, I trust Brad Stevens. I think he is one of the better GMs in the National Basketball Association. I like all of his moves that he has made in past, and I do believe that this can be something he can really work out. And Anthony Simons, I said all along, should have been traded before the before the season. Now we’re in the season and I’m still going to say the same thing. I don’t believe Anthony Simons value is here and ultimately I’m going to keep trying to get him to make us a valuable asset whether it be with a trade or some sort of way. We appreciate you watching here on Celtics Digest. We will see you next time here on the show. For now though guys, peace out.
