What is the Mets backup plan if they lose both Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz?

I think it’s safe to assume the
Mets, want both Pete, Alonso and and would Diaz back. I mean,
David Stern’s has said so himself, but there has to also
be a plan B in place a manual. Where did the Mets turn? If
Alonso signs? Elsewhere, swing big you place a guy with
about 250 career homers for a guy with 350 career, homers
and Kyle schwarber. I think you were placed in production there.
There’s your DH for the next few years. Maybe sprinkle in some first
base over time. I know some rumors and Rumblings about
Juan Soto possibly twine around with fur. First base over the
years but you can add another dh2 seeing provided Alonzo is not on it. Kyle. Schwarber is a
more prolific power hitter 340 Homer season. The last four
years averaging 47 bombs. This guy fits perfectly you know
he can play in a big market and this is a type of
flare the Mets. Need in the middle of that order to
coincide with Lindor coincide with Juan Soto and you
steal from a division rival for good measure. I think this is
what you fight Thunder with thunder. You lose a franchise player, go and get an even
better power hitter in college schwarber. It’s gonna be a huge
payday though. Hear him down slowly though. Absolutely pay up. Now you got to spend to
get harp. Yeah. I’m not against it I think it’s a perfect fit
but I think you know it’s Philly want some bad. Yeah I’ll pay them. Yeah. Send a message to his
arrival. 750 750, we have million that we’re going. So do money
from last year. No, I’m going to any money for college.
Former, we can’t, you know, I like the Japanese
Slugger. Kunitake, munetaka murakami, young. This is an interesting Opportunity for teams to get a young Slugger. He’s only 20 easy
to play a 26. Yes he’ll play a 26 next season and look he broke sourdoughs home run record for
single-season. 56 in 2022 for a Japanese born player. So this is a guy with a really
big upside here and I think the Mets, you know, could get a
little bit younger with this move. If Alonso doesn’t work out
in the end and get him, you know, look, I know he’s a
left-handed hitter and maybe they could move a left hand move
on from a left-handed. We’ll get to that in a little
bit here. You know. So they’re not to
left-handed but I think we’ll see a return to baby. We’re going to
show you our trade everybody but but I think this is a, you
know, look the Mets were really in obviously on Yamamoto because
of his youth obviously is a pitcher. It’s a different
case. But the age is, the thing I’m looking at here and he was a young pitcher, this
is a young Slugger. It’s a good opportunity for the Mets
and every other team in MLB. He’s intriguing no doubt, but he
strikes out of town. You didn’t mention that at least
Didn’t hear it. No, I kept under really bad Defender, it’s going
to play first base. All over the really improving run
prevention by keeping people on. So at first, I don’t know.
This is if I do a little harsh but I like it, no, I love harsh but accurate, but they
don’t get along. So you’re saying, I’m just saying defense,
defense and strikeouts are a big problem. That’s why
I’m going for the other Japanese free agent okamoto,
calves, okamoto. He doesn’t have the power of
what you guys named their economy. Yes, but he’s a 300
hitter in Japan. He does have some power And he’s a much
better defensive player doesn’t strike out. Nearly as much as
murakami either. So I think he’s, you see be a solid guy there. The problem is, you look at the
the options for free on the free agent market. For first
base on the right now. There’s just not a lot out there. So
you’d almost have to turn one of these Japanese guys. Unless you can get Bellinger
Bellinger to be. Here, he comes in. He’s perfect. Otherwise,
it’s got like Ryan. O’Hearn somebody like that and I didn’t
hear who’s playing first base if you go on getting some
bientot. Some so do have some schwarber. I just care about the power production, it
played First, two rounds, at least Alonzo can play a
little bit. I like your idea, though. As far as replacing the
power, that’s my biggest issue with letting Pete go. We still
need a first baseman, but you, but you could plug and play somebody
at first base. Not viento 26 RBIs. That’s what I’m at
your. That’s why for adoption schwarber. Schwarber was toying
around with first over in Philly but they had a first,
baseman, and Bryce Harper, who, by the way, moved over to first
base, like a combination is schwarber and Bellinger but I
don’t that’s it. It’s also. Now you’re
wasting a lot of money. There are a lot of lefties as
well with Soto Bellinger’s for Burt, how about Diaz? And if Diaz goes elsewhere, what’s the Mets option there? Well, to me Robert Suarez
profiles as the next top of the market closer guy there. And
I think that they would they should, and if the as goes and Suarez
throat, you know, it was one of the best fastballs in the game and has been very consistent
since he has emerged as a top-flight closer and but I
don’t think you stop there. You know, I think we’ve seen this the past couple days with the
with the word out there that the Mets have been thinking
about it d as Devin Williams combo in the bullpen.
But that’s when you seek to create a Super Bowl pain, you
get Suarez and then you add again to him Iglesias. I got a whole list
here. People Fairbanks get these guys in there so you can
really shut down the bullpen, lock it down out there in the
relief Corps because they didn’t have that last year and
they have a lot of work to do there. It’s Juarez is certainly
an option to need to be an option. If you can’t bring
dies back, he you know, I Have you talked to San Diego?
People though he’s not as consistent as you might think he
gave up some big home runs for the Padres, not the least of
which was Bryce Harper’s in the postseason that at that time
but he’s probably probably the best option other than Devin
Williams. My man Devin Williams. I mean not for men. Yeah, I do but I just know he he he
doesn’t want him so I don’t know. You better be 100% sure
that New York wasn’t an issue there. Well the way he came out of it and
Pitch at the end of the year, gives me a lot of hope that he
can do. It’s there. I was back in. He pitched. Well, Well, in
the postseason, he still got that Elite changeup. I think he
could be a guy that could be the clothes. What about about
Kirby eats harp? Is that still, your guy, he’s been replaced by Rangers
swore as which he doesn’t fit in this category. Yeah, it’s got
hurt. That was the problem. Any Wagers Suarez is definitely
our guy. He takes it. Can you find Catalyst? But I love
Roberts Wars at the back. End of the bullpen plus a shorter
term deal. 35 years old, you’re not committing long-term to back-end relief
which I know the Mets would like
to avoid if possible. So you’re
getting one of the best clothes and baseball cop. Purple not quite as windy as but
close to it and your man, Devin Williams. It
turned for a renter into a buyer. He loves New York. Let
him stay in New York.

  1. This kinda watches like that Moneyball scene where the joke is how incompetent all the old scouts are. That and a cross of the Billy Madison "Everyone in his room is now dumber for having listened to it" quote

  2. Problem with Schwarber replacing Alonso? He will probably sign much sooner than Alonso. I would stay away from Murakami – he strikes out WAY TOO MUCH – IN JAPAN NO LESS – and his defense is at best, no better than Alonso – maybe worse.

  3. The Mets will not be competitive in 2026. Won't get fooled again. They will start 2026 the same way they ended 2025. Let's wait until all the best players are signed, and then grab guys off the scrap heap.

  4. WHY NO GETTING BOTH ? THEY ARE FOR BOTH CHEAPER THAN JUAN SOTO .. GET THEM BOTH. GET RID OFIT NIMMO, VIENTOS, MCNILL,PETERSON,HOLMES,SENGA, EVEN TRADE LINDOR IF THEY CAN

  5. The reason the bullpen broke down last year was because you weren't getting any length from your starters. A starter going more than 4-5 innings was rare in the second half. I think you could count on one hand how many times Mets starters went over 6IP in the second half of the season. Overall the bullpen wasn't bad, it just got so tired in the second half and gave up big runs as a result.

  6. Mets just need a true ace to lead McLean, Sproat and Tong. So many valuable FA I would prioritize getting an ACE and then let everything fall in place. Pete won’t sign until 2026 so best to get everything else rolling.
