George Pickens reflects on his exit from Pittsburgh

  1. A very mature reflection. I’m glad he’s having the success he’s having in Dallas and I hope he scores a big contract in the offseason.

  2. That’s unexpectedly wholesome. I assumed with his character things might have went a bit worse

  3. Mature words from Pickens, color me surprised but good on him.

Unrelated but as a Heat fan seeing how Jimmy Butler is handling his exit and dealing with former team in the complete opposite way, at least nice to see here

  4. all the reporting in Pittsburgh based media is that everyone in the Steelers organization, starting with Tomlin but extending into the locker room, loathes Pickens. the trade certainly wasn’t a good decision from an on-field product perspective, so have to assume there’s a good bit of truth to that.

  5. I’ll always root for George. And also I’ll always laugh when he inevitably gets a 15 yard penalty for something fuckin stupid lmao

  6. Obviously in a contract year. I bet his agent wrote that.

Now he can go miss curfew, get benched the first series and get another 15 yarder out of Pittsburgh.

    Good riddance.

  7. I feel like Tomlin kept saying “Just keep being you, George” every time Pickens did something stupid and Pickens completely missed the sarcasm.

  8. It’s from the players tribune and the players tribune is an outlet for agents/managers to ghostwrite positive puff pieces for athletes.

Not saying he hasn’t matured, I have no idea. But this was written by his manager 1000%

  9. Coach Tomlin is so savvy. Got a talented player who isn’t a fit? Don’t put the player down, but accentuate the positives and charm them into doing what you want.

  10. I’m sure the sentiment is legit, but for folks wondering about the wording and language, those Players Tribue articles are all ghost-written by actual writers, and it’s usually just based off a handful of talking points from the player and their reps.

  11. I have to think no matter who drafted George Pickens there was going to be an issue cuz he’s immature, no matter what he was going to need a fresh start. I mean unless he came into a stacked veteran laden team

  12. Players Tribune posts always read with the same vibes. I’m almost certain that the player just tells what they want to say and sound like and a professional writer puts it all together… Maybe I’m wrong, but this is just pure PR

  13. I’d rather have him then DK. I feel like Pitt should’ve paid him. Not quite the athlete but he’s a better receiver than DK.

  14. Lmao yeah his pr team had a field day in the players tribune. GP probably doesn’t even know he said this yet. Hope they get their 20%.
