🚨JUST IN🚨 Seahawks Just Got MAJOR News

[Music] Welcome into Seahawks Today. I am your host, Will Ortner, and we have a jam-packed show for you today. We got some real news surrounding that RB1 position. A lot of people have been clamoring for Kenneth Walker to get more touches. Might be going your way on that one. And then I want to dive into some rumors surrounding your outside linebacker, Boy Maf. Uh there was a report released on ESPN that had him as one of the top free agents in this 2026 class. Might be a bit too early, but I do want to dive into those rumors as well. Before we get into it though, sound off right now in the comments section. Who do you think should be RB1? Should it be Kenneth Walker? Should it be Zack Charbanet? Give me your initial leanings right now in the comments down below. Now, I do want to say a special thank you to the athletics, Michael Shawn Dugar. This is uh his tweet that we got on M McDonald and what he had to say about who is going to be getting the bulk of the carries for the Seahawks. He said that Ken is showing that he deserves some more opportunities, not just on the ground game, but in the passing game as well. And if you’ve been paying attention, ever since I took over the channel here on Seahawks Today, I actually have been pretty much a big Zack Charbanet guy. I have been a little bit of a Kenneth Walker doubter. And at this point, I’m wrong. I’m just flat out wrong. I thought that I had a pretty good point. Uh Walker was dealing with a lot of injuries, not just in last season, but in training camp when we did see him. He didn’t look all that fast early on. And as he’s gotten back from his injury, he’s clearly shown that he is the better running back between him and Charbanet. I mean, yes, there’s a little bit more carries that are going to go Kenneth Walker’s way. Now, some of that is because Charbanet did miss a game, but at this point, Walker’s almost doubled up his rushing yards number. Now, he has less touchdowns, but Charbanet’s got more opportunities to score those touchdowns. But I think the key point that you need to look at is that rushing yard average. Right now, Kenneth Walker flat out, he just gets more yards per carry. That’s not really an attack on chart, but I still think that there’s plenty of uses for him, and we’ll get into that more in a little bit. But right now, with what we’re seeing in the receiving game as well as in the rushing game, it has to be Kenneth Walker. He’s gotten a lot of that speed back. And he really fits into the scheme and the system that Clint Kubak wants to play here in Seattle. He wants to have a rushing attack that is attacking the edges, getting to those offtackle spots because he wants to use a long zone scheme. Who fits that better, Kenneth Walker or Zack Charbanet? Kenneth Walker, he’s the faster player. He’s the guy that can get to the outside easier. Charbanet just can’t do that right now. And that’s okay. There’s still plenty of room for Charbanet. But right now, it does seem to be Kenneth Walker’s job to lose. Let me know what you think. I’m coming back to you because I wanted to hear what your initial lean was. Let me know what your lean is after looking at the stats. Is it Kenneth Walker? Type KW down below. Is it still Zack Sharbanet? Because in your mind, hey, he’s more of that physical running back. It needs to be more of a two-back system. Keep going 50/50 on the carries. Type ZC down below. I’ve already kind of gone through it a little bit, but my true take on this is Kenneth Walker has shown you from the beginning of the year till the end of the year that he deserves more touches. And I think that Mike McDonald does a great job of this. Just look at the defense. When you started the year out because of the preseason play and because of the play in week one, Josh Job earned more cornerback reps over Reek Woolen. He became your cornerback number two. Why was that? because his play on the field fit the scheme better. He played at a higher level. He wasn’t allowing wide receivers to get catches on him that Reek Woolen just simply was. Basically, right around that Houston Texans game, right around when you got to the halfway point of the halfway point, Reek Woolen started performing better. Rick Woolen started fitting the scheme better. Reek Woolen got more snaps against the Rams and frankly, he deserved them. I think it’s the same thing here with Kenneth Walker, man. He fits what this offensive line wants to do a lot easier. They want to get out in space. There’s a reason why you have a smaller center when he’s not on IR and Jaylen Sundell. Why? Because he can get to that linebacker easier. Gray Zable known for his speed. He’s able to get to the edges quicker. He gets more reaches. You need a faster back in that backfield for the Seattle Seahawks if you want to get this run game to the full potential that it needs to be. And this offense is built on the run into the playaction pass. Now, you’re running the football a lot, but you’re not always getting the highest returns. It’s gotten better week after week. You’re now one of the top 10 teams in your rushing yards per average game, right around that 135 mark. But I think by giving Kenneth Walker more touches, you’re going to fit more and more into that, and you’re going to get more big plays from that running back room. Now, I want to dive into the second story. Is it too early? And I’m asking you this, is it too early to start looking at the 2026 free agency class? Not saying that the season is done, but I always do think it is important to not procrastinate when it comes to building a future roster. I think it’s important to know who are some of the players that could be on the move for you in Seattle. And there’s a one there’s a player on the defensive side that honestly it’s kind of a big deal if he were to leave or at least I think it’s a bigger deal than what people give it credit for. That’s Boy Maf. He was listed as the 22nd best free agent by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Matt Bowen. Now, there was obviously a lot of interest on Maf at the deadline. I think Adam Shfter’s Twitter account basically once a day for the week after the trade deadline had to report, hey, did you know the Chiefs were interested in Boya Maf? Hey, did you know that this team was interested in Boya Maf? Did you know that this team was interested in Boya Maf? And the list went on and on and on. Clearly, there are a lot of teams that think that they can turn Boy Maf into something. I think the Seattle Seahawks should think that they can turn Boy Maf into something. He’s quick. He gets off the ball fast. He’s the type of player that you would kill for at that linebacker position. He’s got all the skills. And honestly, if you look at a lot of the advanced analytics this year, he’s been pretty darn good despite what we might be getting into a little bit later. More on Boy Maf, why he could be one of the top free agents in just a moment. But before we get into that, I got to let you know about the sponsor of today’s video, and that of course is our good friends over at Prize Picks. The hard-hitting football action is even better with Prize Picks. The weather might be changing, but the feeling of being right never gets old. Price picks is the best way to win cash this football season. Which players are going off? Which ones are overhyped? Make your picks in less than 60 seconds and turn your takes into cash all season long on price picks. I have a little three pick power play for this weekend’s action. Cam Ward less on his pass yards against the Seahawks defense, more on JSN’s receiving yards, more on Rasheed Shahit’s receiving yards as well. Download the app today and use code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That’s code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. Price picks. It’s good to be right. We’ve seen it now for the last couple of years with Boy Maf in Seattle that he has all the potential in the world to be an elite edge rusher for this team and to be an elite edge rusher in the entire NFL. He’s quick off the ball. He’s got fluid hips. He’s able to get low on his bends when he’s ripping. He’s strong enough that he can still push a offensive lineman deep into the back field if he needs to get into his power rush, but he’s at his best when he is using his speed rush. And I think Matt Bowen perfectly illustrated that in this ESPN article. Maf has an explosive first step which allows him to attack the edges of the offensive tackles. Offensive tackles hate it when you get to a spot before them. Maf does a great job of that. His effort level and backside pursuit ability also lead to second reaction sacks. Maf can still add more refinement to his pass rush plan. I think we’re seeing that a lot this year. But the traits are there to produce in a system that schemes matchups out of multiple fronts. And when you look at the career stats for Boy Maf, I think that you would see a lot of progression towards that. You would see that early on in his career when he was, you know, in the Pete Carol system, there’s a high sack output. He’s getting in the backfield, getting a lot of TFLs, not missing games was a key aspect of that as well because I I mean, even in the 2024 season, he really wasn’t missing a lot of plays. He was consistently getting to where he needed to be. I mean, shoot, even in the 2025 season, he’s starting to get into the back field more and more and get big plays. He’s done a good job so far in the advanced analytics as well of winning his pass rush sets. What does that mean? It means when teams are setting up, they’re trying to pass the football. He gets into the backfield quickly. He’s just not been finishing as much this year. So, I get why teams want him, man. He’s got all the upside in the world. you’re probably going to get him for a little bit of a cheaper price after his performance this season, which I wouldn’t say has been lackluster at all. But if you go through and you look at those stats, they’re not eyepopping to you. They’re not jumping off the page. He’s not doing what Demarcus Lawrence, he’s not doing what Leonard Williams, he’s not doing what the rest of that crew, Chenna Nuosu, has been doing. He’s doing a good job of getting in the backfield and making noise, but he’s not making the most noise that he possibly could. I personally would love to see him come back to Seattle. I think he fits well in this defense and I think you’re starting to see the fruits of his labor really start to pay off. What have you noticed in the last couple of games? He’s been getting in the backfield. He’s been making tackles. He’s been making tackles for a loss. He’s been not getting a sack against the Rams, but he got one against the Arizona Cardinals. He’s making plays consistently, and I think that’s what’s most important. But what is going to be a big key for John Schneider? What is the cost of Boy Maf? If he’s going to run up a high dollar value, then yeah, Seattle should let him move on. Move on. Go get someone in the draft or get a cheaper player that fits a similar style that he does because there is an avenue for him to be used in Seattle. I think what’s also important is keep a new Chenna Nuosu because if you keep a Chenna Nuosu, well, there’s less playing time for Boy Maf and that also is a part of the reason why you’re seeing a dip a little bit in his production. I’ve been very impressed with him. Basically, his first three years, this last year, he’s left a lot of meat on the bone. He’s been disappointing. I could also see why Seattle might move on from it. Make sure that you follow me over on Twitter. I’m constantly tweeting about the Seattle Seahawks. I’ve been giving my opinions on Nuosu as well as Boy Maf. Do I think that Maf should be a long-term fit in Seattle? I think for the right price, yeah, he definitely should be. Will Ortner, go follow me there. And of course, subscribe to the channel. 1. You want to start with Charbonnet for he is the more physical back to wear down the defense whereas Walker is the finesse back he follows his Blockers He's the home run hitter

  2. Even though I'm from the northwest I'm just a casual Seahawk fan but I've never seen the Seahawks so loaded with talent I can't believe the way it looks and time its going to be something very special hopefully they can hold on most of their players for next season Because I think this team could be one of the best of all time their defense I think we'll be in the same league the Baltimore defense was in 2000 2001

  3. before I was on the charb train where he was trb 1 but now k9 should be rb 1 based on how both played so far as for looking at the 2026 free agency it wouldn't hurt especially when it comes to cb and rg honestly I do not want seahawks to get rid of mafe

  4. Honestly I absolutely love them both. I think we should continue with K9 as 1 and Zach as 2, but that does not imply at all that Zach be utilized any less than we already have been using him. ZC can totally power through the middle trucking the D Lines getting 6 – 7 yards, but I love how K9 can spin on a dime and slip through openings with the speed that he has.

  5. Where's the major news? I didn't watch this to hear your opinion, I clicked because you said the Seahawks just got major news. To me that's click bait and I hate click bate. I'll be Leary of your posts going forward. Bad job Chat Sports.

  6. yeh exactly your wrong in judging talent everyone can clearly see walker is a more shifty and faster back period your problem is your get personal and fall in love with what you like and dont see what's the best for team…..
k9 is the best back and the best option and Jobe is better than wollen best cover corner better tackler wollen makes business decisions when tackling we dont want no pu@#$ cb on our team and we should resign more he's young and good only going to get better….

  7. Play KW and CZ equally. Use them both to give opposing defenses problems to deal with.
It is never too early to look at upcoming opportunities with free agents, draft, or cap space. Looking at your needs and who fits them best are ongoing activities.
Mafe is valuable and has potential to improve. Whether he stays in Seattle or not is a complex issue with many variables. I agree that he would be great to retain for the right price. If he leaves for a larger payday, that is on him. If Seattle decides he moves on to free cap space, that is a strategic move and they will need to fill that spot with someone who fills the role. They may already have someone in mind to bring in or have someone on the practice squad waiting for an opportunity.

  8. You always qualify K9 not getting more touchdowns by saying Charbonnet gets more goal line touchs. Why not say Charbonnet doesn't get as many yards per carry because he doesn't get those middle of the field run opportunities. Essentially his yardage opportunities are capped. I understand why K9 gets his touches in the middle of the field because he is more explosive, and I understand why Charbonnet gets his touches in the redzone because you are far less likely to get the negative play. Both have their roles and the Seahawks need them both because in the end they don't have a guy like Christain McCaffrey, Jonathan Taylor, or Derrick Henry. Not many teams do. Of the 2 running backs I still like Charbonnet more, because I hate the backwards plays by K9 more than I like his explosive runs.

  9. We need a legitimate rb1 sorry but to date Walker is just not that. He’s too inconsistent, and the only time he shows breakaway speed is on the outside, when have you seen him break one from the tackles?…seahawks need to draft or trade for a rb next season.

  10. They seem to always bring Walker out once they get close to the goal line, and give the easy touchdown to Charbonnet. Walker would have twice as many TDs if they left him in. Love both these guys, but always feel bad for Walker when they take him out at the goal line.
