I feel like Emmet is not getting enough love for his WS heroics. 3.2 scoreless innings in games 3 and 7 after a few first rough outings as a reliever in the post season! It’s sad to see his name mentioned in potential trades.

  1. Definitely deserves his due credit and can fill the 6th starter role we need. That said, where are you seeing his name mentioned in potential trades? If I don’t see the key guys (Passan, Moresi, Rosenthal, etc) mention him than I don’t buy it.

Dodgers Nation site is notorious for click-bait titles, so don’t believe everything you see. However, I will say we have quite a few injured arms ready to return next year so something has to give…eventually.

  2. In regards to the trades. In some ways it’s respect towards him as a good player with a future. All these Dodgers coming back from injuries (Stone, Hurt, Ryan) have either question marks on if they can be good pitchers or in Stones case can he come back healthy & stay healthy. Sheehan has kind of proved he’s back healthy with some very promising stuff pitch wise. Out of all 4 of those he’s really the only one IMO that could net a good return at this time.

Glasnow, Yoshi, Snell, Ohtani, Sasaki. That’s 5 starters right there. Add Sheehan that’s 6 which they could very well go to a 6 man rotation & obviously I’m sure at least 2 are going to spend time on the IL. But what matters is really the team you put out there in October. And I don’t think Sheehan is going to be a playoff starter so long as Glasnow, Yoshi, Snell & Ohtani are healthy. Just might make more sense if they can find a really good bullpen arm or quality OF if they can get one for him.

  3. Gonna need Emmet to be an innings eater in the regular season and flexible in the playoffs if we gonna 3peat.

  4. The fact that he’s being listed as a potential headliner in a Skubal trade is a good thing imo. Not because I want him traded, but because people realize his value/ability is worth being a main return for arguably the best pitcher in the game. (I don’t think we make that trade though).

  5. To be fair I have only seen his name in hypothetical trades from AI clickbait, no actual mentions of talks happening.

  6. Sheehan is a dawg!!! Downright unhittable down the stretch. Deserves that trophy as much as anyone.

He might throw the most inning of all starters next season!!

  7. Him, river ryan, and gavin stone are the future of this team’s rotation (im only mentioning our farm guys for this). I dont wanna see him traded at all

  8. I actually think that his association to trade rumors speaks to how highly he is regarded as a young SP. He is getting mention by national broadcasters because he is the top SP prospect of the Dodgers, and most dodgers podcasters or youtubers are actually “guarding” him. And the trades that he gets package with are skubal level,m.

  9. The team needs more team controllable players so if they do trade him it has to be a crazy good return. His trade value might be at its peak at this point but dynasty window so you gotta do what you gotta do. Would hate to lose him he’s looking like a stud on the cheap

  10. He was very solid for us in the regular season when we were missing other starters.

He struggled in the wildcard series, but cleaned it up afterwards.

  11. I’m so serious when I say that the only trade for Sheehan that would be acceptable is if he was included in a package for Skubal. In 73.1 innings he had 89 Ks, 0.97 WHIP, and an 2.82 ERA and on top of that almost all the advanced metrics love him. If that’s not good enough for you he’s also got 4 years left of team control with us not even having to drop a million on him next season.

  12. Yes! Things were nowhere near perfect, but Emmet’s services were timely and necessary. He was an important piece. I’d love for the team to keep Sheehan. I believe he’s growing and improving with each start under his belt. I appreciate him.

  13. Please always keep in mind that “his name mentioned in potential trades” is simply a baseball writer speculating at who could’ve moved for what.

The number of times (digital) ink was spilled over “Seager or Bellinger or Urias for James Shields (et al)” is astonishing. None of those trades happened because they were simply an idea crafted by a writer to try and meet a deadline.

Could the dodgers trade Sheehan? Absolutely, if it’s the right deal. But his name being speculated upon by Jim Bowden or whoever doesn’t mean that the organization is considering moving him.

Hot Stove season is a lot of chaff and little wheat.

  14. I think they’s be crazy to trade him. Stone and Ryan too for that matter.

I love Glasnow and Snell as much as anyone, but we know that we’re unlikely to get anything close to a full season out of either of them. The point in having them is what just happened, postseason success. We just want them ready for October, and we’ll need guys like Sheehan, Ryan and Stone to fill in for them when the injuries inevitably come.

We also still don’t really know how Sasaki will work out as a starter long term. I’m very high on him, but things were far from perfect in year 1 and he’s not a sure thing. If he pitches poorly next season, then, again, good thing for Sheehan, Stone and Ryan.

Also, Kershaw gave us 22 starts and 112 good innings last year before riding off into the sunset as a 3 time champion and greatest pitcher in baseball history. So I’ll say the names again because here’s another hole to fill. Sheehan, Stone and Ryan.

They should all 3 go absolutely nowhere. If you want Skubal just pay for him next year.

  15. I’ve always like Sheehan. He wasn’t as sharp in the post season but he still did get important outs. I think he just needs more playoff experience and he will be better next year.

  16. Emmet is a great young arm. Looking forward to him and Stone next year. I just am not sure where they fit in. Obviously they could come out of the pen, but our team hasn’t really done that much with pitchers they think are starters.

  17. Everyone did their part. One cannot live without the other. Whether it was going extra innings pitching wise to defensive plays to base hits home runs you name it.

  18. Not enough people realize he’s a genuinely elite (or just below) pitcher to back up our big 4. Especially for his salary. Small sample size obviously but min 50 IP, he was top-10 in basically every stat in his starts. 0.97 WHIP (12), 25.7 K-BB% (6), 2.93 FIP (11), 2.96 SIERA (6).

That’s better than most of our starters even with similar sample sizes, and he had pretty average BABIP luck unlike some of the luckier (or better defense) guys over him.

  19. I would be sad to see him go but at this point I trust the FO that whoever we got would somehow be a key role in winning a third straight

  20. The other day watching snell on twitch emmet was in the chat telling Bobby Miller he sucked lol

  21. I like Emmet Sheehan as well. He’s actually pretty damn solid and has room for more. I don’t want to see the Dodgers lose someone who definitely is worth keeping.
