WTF Are The Flames Doing With Connor Zary?? | FN Barn Burner

Connor Zeri has zero goals and one point in his last 15 games. He was one of only two Flames forwards without a shot on goal tonight. Now I that was on Yeah, that was two days ago. Among all Flames forwards, Zary ranks last by far in shot attempts per 60 minutes and is second last to Ryan Lombberg in XG60. I got to get that on a t-shirt. You want that on a on a hoodie? You kind of got me. I’m second to last in XG60. Yeah. Um expected goals for 60. It’s I have a hard time looking at someone like and and I guess I’m I’m a Zary guy, so it’s I’m I’m going to be biased, but it’s like a lot of these things. It’s like with Weaguer, it’s with Zary. Sharon Govich obviously is different, but on this team and how challenged they are as a group to look at a young player who is playing on the wing and on the at center and at on the fourth line and say your offense is I I I don’t look at Zary and say you’re why you’re a big part of why this team is struggling to score. It would help if he was, but I’m not. You can’t play him as a and I don’t think there are four lines, but you can’t play him as a fourth line guy and say produce for us. I know I he’s moved around within games and he’s not always been on the fourth line. It’s not been it is not a good year for production for him obviously or anyone else. But it is I I’m not going to look big picture at a young player’s potential as an NHL player pin and pin it on this season and how you do with in goals and assists and shots. It’s I just don’t think it’s fair. I think he’s coming off a season where he showed flashes of being really good and then he got his ass injured again twice. Right. Twice. So there it’s easy for us to think, well, he’s healthy and good. Well, maybe you are, but maybe you’re still a little bit off. Maybe you’re on the fourth line, maybe you’re not. Maybe you’re bouncing around too much. Maybe you’re I don’t know. But you tell me who’s been so damn dynamic offensively that we’re mad at Zary for not putting up points. Yeah. Uh it is it’s one goal, one assist in 16 games. He’s getting 13 and a half minutes in night in in ice. He’s got 19 shots. I just it’s you’re just going to have to be patient project. Yeah. Just going to have to be patient. It it kind of happy to be patient with him for some reason. I know. I and cuz we would argue with Pinder. Oh, which is odd, but he was kind of well, what is he? You don’t want when it came down to what are you going to pay the guy? I feel like you and I have always kind of been a little bit more gracious and how much space we he picks. Well, we all do. We all pick and choose our fights, but he picks spot like he fails to remember his stronger opinion of him when he was playing well a year ago when we were sitting in a pub watching the game and he had good results and was offensively driving the play. Oh, he’s hurt again. Okay, maybe he’s a hurt bag. May. Yeah, he is. You know what he is? is a long list of players on the forwards for the Flames that aren’t that doing that well that aren’t living up to expectation. Fabby, Frost, like Yeah, I think there’s no passing grade for anyone. What the hell are we talking? There’s zero passing grade for anyone. Even Wolf, you know who’s the passing grade? The guy going into the year we were going, “Oh god, we can’t put him in net coolie.” Hey buddies, thanks for watching. We appreciate it. Also, if you could throw in a like and subscribe, it does help us out with what it is we are doing. And check out more at flamesnation.ca.

Boomer and Rhett get into a conversation about Connor Zary, who’s now buried on the fourth line playing center — and the guys can’t figure out what the Flames are doing. Zary has shown real promise at the NHL level, but injuries and inconsistent usage have stalled his progress. What’s the plan here? Why isn’t he getting a real opportunity? The boys break down the situation and what Calgary should be doing with one of their most talented young players.

  1. Zary is twice the player Coronato is. Gets injured twice in brutal fashion then proceeds to watch a player come up and take the contract and lineup position that was essentially his. Before the injury Zary was driving plays and creating chances with speed and creativity the team hasn't seen since the mass exodus of Calgary players. Can't imagine he is in a great mental space or excited to play hockey at the moment which is truly sad.

  2. Do we want Zary as a winger or as a center? Is his development such as you could throw him in as a 1c or a 2c? If not how do you get him there? Keep playing him on the wing…. How would that make him a better center? Give him time as 4c taking faceoffs and playing center against the bottom six of the other teams? Maybe this will help get his footing as a center so you can move him up the lineup…. As a center.

  3. The flames have a lot of players who on paper could work and have success. But as a team they do not or are not able to mesh it’s probably a coaching issue as well but also I don’t believe huska is doing a bad job and would be okay with huska being on the team during the rebuild. Huska seems to get it and is a strong team leader. Players like zary and Sharangovic and corronato and klapka and parekh can make it through the line up but sprinkle in some young exciting talent these players will thrive again. Until then they’re going to be just mid/ bad

  4. Huska and the Flames coaching staff don't seem to be concerned with developing any young players at all. If you're not the complete picture at 18, you're getting sat or stapled to the 4th line with the plugs. Meanwhile the vets have guaranteed roster spots no matter how badly they play.

  5. Flames are good at giving up on the kids.tyrn stick on the bench or 3/4th lines. No chance future here. But go to another team and get some quality minutes and viola ..a star.

  6. I think the truth is a little or both. They haven't always used him properly, but he's been wildly inconsistent as well. Really like the player however on paper, and hope he can turn it around.

  7. His best play came with Kadri and Pospisil. Nobody mentions Pospisil, but that guy gets everyone going. I wouldn’t mind seeing Klapka getting more ice with better players, too. Does anyone know when Pospisil is coming back?

  8. I think it would be important for the young players to be playing with the same linemates for an extended period of time. At least that way, they can get familiar with those linemates WHILE getting up to NHL game speed. Shuffling lines constantly means that they need to think about their various linemates' tendencies WHILE playing against opponents that are showing them something different all the time. Just lock in the linemate variable for a while so they have a few less things changing.

  9. as an NHL player – don't beaver slap your stick in the neutral zone wanting the D to pass U the puck up- then act pissed off that the D ignores U and dumps it in – what kinda show 4-the fans is that ?

  10. Nobody’s scoring so, meh

Zary looked very good against WPG, but give him a finisher to play with instead of Lomberg. Klapka almost scored off a Zary pass, but hit the crossbar

  11. I got Coranato in my fantasy league and am already starting to regret it. I'm glad the guy I tried to get Zary from in a trade said no now lol. The kid looked really good before. So weird to see him struggling this bad.
