[Fortune] Caesars Palace fined $7.8M over Shohei Ohtani interpreter’s money laundering issues: failed to verify bookmaker Mathew Bowyer’s source of funds between 2017-24, despite suspicions being raised and an anonymous tip. Bowyer took bets from Ohtani’s former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara

  1. The Ippei gambling scandal was crazy. Could yall imagine if Ohtani really did gamble and was banned from baseball?

How would history change? Would the dodgers still win 2 WS? Who would have won the regular season MVPs?

  2. As much as we all love Shohei the drama of him being the sneaking little gambling goblin would go so hard. Not saying he was but man. A dark part of me wishes we got that juicy shit pile of drama.

  3. Somethings up here with Shohei and it’s not a good thing. May not be that insane but my dude has Michael Jordan energy.

  4. To all the conspiracy theorists that think the FBI, DOJ, FTC, and all of the other U.S agencies, conspired to protect a foreign national and the MLB…. I hope you fall off your flat earth.

  5. I will say, the one thing I love about these threads is that it easily pinpoints which users I’m better off blocking.

  6. Conspiracy theorists say that Ippei took the fall for Shohei.

Took the fall for what? No bets were made on baseball.

From what I can see, Ippei is charged with bank fraud (stealing from Shohei) and falsifying taxes. I know it was an illegal bookie but am not seeing if those were actual charges against him in his indictment.

So, if Shohei were the one gambling, what exactly do you think the charges would have been? He wouldn’t be charged for stealing from himself.

So in order to accuse Shohei of wrongdoing, you have to believe that everybody involved from the FBI and IRS are covering up for a rich athlete instead of trying to nail him to a wall, hiding his baseball betting to help MLB, and had his interpreter take the fall for massive fraud for stealing the money (creating a new crime out of nothing since it would have been his own money if it was Shohei)
