Do The Edmonton Oilers Have A Goaltending Problem? | SDP

Edmonton. The quote that will live in infamy forever is the one I keep bringing up, which is oneword answer. Oilers reporter asked Stan Bowman last year at the deadline, “Are you going to get a new goalie?” And he says, “No.” And they do nothing about it this summer, and everybody knew what the problem was. And you know, just like you said, hey, the call’s inside the house. Everybody who doesn’t watch Oilers hockey hockey regularly knows what the problem is. That’s how easy it is to diagnose the Oilers problem. I know that they’re not as deep as they used to be. You know, they don’t have Perry Fogle, uh, Broberg, who, you know, was in and out of the lineup. Um, uh, Dylan Holloway, whatever you want to say about the rest of the lineup, fine. But nobody needs the Oilers at 84 goals allowed. 84 goals. And by the way, they’ve scored 68. I mean, speaking of a team that like it’s insane, you haven’t tried anything yet. That’s the thing. Try was the plan. Wait for Zack Heyman profit. You That’s not a way to run a team. What are you doing? Mhm. What are you doing? That’s not even close. And I think Jesse made a really good point this summer. Stuart Skinner is not a starter, but he is a platoon guy. I think at his I think he could. Yeah. Yeah. But the idea like listen, I think it’s amazing that Calvin Pickard has stuck in this far. He’s got some playoff games or whatever. I was going off on him yesterday in the group chat and then he he was this close to pitching a shut out. I’m sorry. This close that save. Oh my god. I can’t believe you made that safe. No, no, no. What? Pickard. Yeah. No. No. I agree. He’s goalie three. I He’s goalie three. Skinner’s goalie two. Why did you not And I I wondered about this because really Chicago never fully prioritized goalending in their best era, right? when Stan was the at the helm. Crawford was pretty underrated. He was fine. He was Anthony Emmy was not, but they won with him anyway. Anthony Emmy stole the job from I don’t know. Anyone remember who did he steal the job from in 2010? Who? Crystal Ball who Well, there you go. Great. There you go. Francis Franc, we’re losing the the plot here, fellas. I don’t think Stan Bowman I don’t think Stan Bowman values goending enough. I don’t think he puts enough into it. And I think the inaction by Jeff Jackson and Stan Bowman right now looks awful bad. How do you think Conor McDavid feels about signing that extension? Pretty good. If he feels Listen, if this continues to January, how do you think he’s going to feel then? Even better. Yeah, because he can get out of it and go play in the and and the other thing that I I keep looking at keep an eye on Well, actually Jesse, you you sent the quote. Um Connor Ingram through six games has not been great and and they’re giving him a reset. Yeah. So Ingram uh he’s been down in the AHL in Bakersfield playing and it looks like they’re aiming for a December Christmasish or late December Christmasish after that. Um call up is areas when he should be ready cuz he missed all of training camp and they were saying that he’s struggled in the last couple games. So, uh, they’re looking to reset him and get him, uh, back to where he should be, where with the flashes he was showing in the early games. He was down there, right? And like AHL numbers, like we know from Wool are not the beall end all. Wool’s been very good uh, since arriving in Toronto. Maybe Ingram uh, can be that like I thought that was a great like listen, you got to try something and that was them trying something. But I I think you’re running out of runway here and you got to get like I don’t know three NHL games out of Ingram and make a decision because you’re really running out of sunlight here. Just so I can credit where the quotes from, it was from the Oilers Now podcast with Bob Staer. We love some Bob Stoa. Yeah, we do. Uh he was talking with Bakersfield Condor’s head coach Colin Chalk who said uh he’s talking about Ingram miss training camp you know we’re going to take a little step the quick clo’s notes I assume this is what it’s supposed to say Cole’s notes was great in his first game wasn’t seen in his next game talk us about that we gave him a little bit of a reset goalie coach Kelly Guard did a great job helping him helping reset him getting him traffic practice amulating uh some things went back to check it. So, he needs to get back up to speed after having a misstep there, man. Yeah. And then he went on to say, “Players who miss training camp often take time to get back in rhythm. It may take until Christmas for them to find their find their form. That’s part of the American League experience.” So, that’s where I got the Christmas uh timeline for Connor Angry. How Let’s say they like they nail it. Mhm. They nail it and they solve the problem. That’s That’s what they get for Christmas. Santa brings them. Everything’s fine. A goalie. Are they? Yeah. That’s cool. Just what I asked for. We got to leave some milk and cookies. Comes out of the box. So hot in there. It’s Oh my god. It’s the ghost of Tommy Salow and Nikolai Hobby Bulan. You think that’s what Jeff Jackson and is looking for under his Christmas tree? It could be. We’re goalie and goalie. Anyway, um are they is it going to be too late? No. Yeah, probably not. It’s I feel like one team no rules apply to. I feel like I’m the only person who’s like this is all fine. Do you know on November 21st what the record was of the um Edmonton Oilers last last year? In how many games? Uh let’s find out how many games they played. I have to pull up the number. I’m sorry I didn’t have it immediately uh ready. Let’s go to last year November 21st clicked Edmonton they had played 21 games. 21 games. How many? What’s the record? Seven 10 and four. I’m going to say 21 games. Mhm. Uh, I’m going to say 98 and whatever else is left over. This year on November 21st, the Edmonson Oilers have played 23 games. They are 99 and five. That’s 23 points. Last year on November 21st, the Edmonson Oilers had played 21 games. They were 109 and two, 22 points. They are pretty much on par with what they have the goals for goals against Jesse. Uh, goals for 58 less than this year. Goals against 67 almost 20 less than this year. Everybody do it. We’re doing 67. I hate myself. I want to die. Sorry. Um, is it okay that they’re going to be is it okay to have the opinion that they will be okay and they have time to solve this goalending issue, which is a huge issue. If they want to win the Stanley Cup, they need a 1A goalending. I’m asking them to recognize that they have that issue, Jesse. I think they do. No team gets to think this way except them. Okay? I’m not saying that sarcastically. I’m saying that literally. No team. The rules don’t apply when you have Leon Dryidle and Conor McDavid. We know this because they keep breaking the mold. They keep every model. Throw it in the garbage. Um, blow your nose with it. But they are fascinating. They had a 524 save percentage or save points percentage. Wow. Uh, points percentage on November 21st last year. They’re at 500 now, which isn’t great, but it’s not far off. Not a whole lot different. They ended the season incredibly. So, I don’t know. I think they’re going to be good. They can’t keep getting away with it. It’s literally that

  2. A goalie problem? Really? I mean these guys were it last year and it was an issue other than when Skinner got hot. And now their D is even worse. They were decent last year, and hot in the playoffs but now, just dreck. And the bottom 6 forwards are just bleh.

  5. oilers dont have anything any team wants to give up a 1a goalie for or any goalie for that matter lol any team that trades with the oilers just becomes worse .

  17. The problem is simply that they're in cup or bust mode right now and the skaters keep getting worse while the goaltending stays the same. Tinkering with your goalies is like gambling on stock options and the Oilers are opting out to lock their poop in a safe.

  18. Who remembers "Sieve" trying to tell us his better now, cause he lost 25lbs, that cocky attitude telling the media. LOL, SO WHAT!! You mean you're still a shitty goalie that 25lbs less shittier? What gets me going is watching him watch the puck go by him, and then he pretend to still try make the save……come on "Sieve" your 10 minutes to late, that goal went by you last period…Stan should sign David Ayres!!

  21. Why is the focus here on Skinner? Yes, we know he's not a 1A. But what about the defense? They have been completely non existent as of late and are either screening Skinner or aren't playing hard in front of our net. All that reflects his save percentage and performance as a whole. Some goals are his fault, but most are not. Even if we get a solid goaltender, if our defense is shitty, not willing to play hard in front of our net and we continuously give the puck away for 2 on 1's a goaltender isn't' going to have much impact.

  31. What goalie would want to put their heart out for The team when everybody is against him down putting i’m down he did well last year in the playoffs we had a team in front of him that could help him out instead of balling up in front of the net 🎉🎉🎉

  32. The fact that they went to the playoffs and finals with mediocre goaltending for the past two years is nothing short of a miracle if you ask me, now it's getting exposed they cannot out score their problems or play like it's 80's or 90's hockey with those numbers
