With The Arizona Coyotes Now Gone, Why Does The Winnipeg Jets Franchise Records Not Include The Old Jets? Dale Hawerchuk > Kopitar

  1. Because the old owner of the Coyotes got to retain the records in case the franchise returns to Arizona. It was part of the deal.

  2. I would argue Hellebuyck is amongst the 5 best goalies of all time, which is certainly not something you can say about Kopitar.

There’s also a real chance Scheifele finishes with more points than Kopitar.

Had the Jets won in 2018 I believe Scheifele’s legacy and reputation would be completely different leaguewide. I think Byfuglien would probably be a hall-of-famer too.

  3. Probably some kind of legal reasons since they’re legally two different teams, I don’t know shit about that stuff. Nor was I even a thought when Jets 1.0 was around, so it personally doesn’t bother me too much obviously I still respect the legacy of 1.0. But I’m not broken up by their records not going to Jets 2.0.

  4. Oh I think they are cooking up a splashy announcement… my guess is next time Bettman is in town and perhaps to coincide with Heritage Classic announcement.

  5. It’s moreso the NHL themselves that don’t include 1.0, although I see us getting those finally given back to us once the 2029 deadline of the yotes comes and passes. The Jets org and players constantly acknowledge and aim for the 1.0 records, IIRC when Scheif passed Ilya he basically said “with all due respect, I’m aiming for Dale’s record and don’t care about this too much”

  6. Short answer, because the Arizona Coyotes aren’t folded. They’re “Inactive” so the Jets 1.0 records follow that line of provenance.

Utah is an expansion team according to the paperwork (It’s stupid, I know. It was so Meruelo would go away quietly)

If Atlanta ever got a third team, they’d be in a similar boat (minus the inactive successor team bit) with the old Thrashers and Flames history that are held by Winnipeg and Calgary respectively.

  7. lol Jarome Iginla is the greatest Flames player

This Kings guy needs to quit smoking his own supply
