LeBron James scored 20 points or more 14 times in his rookie year, as an 18-year-old. (His birthday is December 30th)

Flagg has 5 games with 20 or more points, with 10 games remaining until he turns 19 on December 21st.

Do you think he can beat LeBron’s record? There are only four games that will easy. He will need to take more mid/3’s against the better defenses to get to 20. Also, if AD returns in these games, does that ease the defensive pressure on Flagg or take scoring chances away?

  • Grizzlies – Totally doable, Bad defense, lots of guys out
  • Heat – Really tough, #5 in team defense, Bam and Ware are studs on D.
  • Lakers – Totally doable, bad defense, no defensive big men
  • Clippers – Totally doable, old, slow, bad defense
  • Nuggets – Tough, if AG is playing, maybe almost impossible
  • Heat – Tough, same as above
  • Thunder – Almost Impossible, OKC putting up record numbers on both sides of the ball in terms of efficiency…
  • Rockets – Doable. Great overall defense, but when not in their two bigs, they can be had at the rim…
  • Pistons – Tough #3 defense, bigs who can defend and guard the rim
  • 76’rs – Totally Doable, terrible defense

  1. Entirely dependent on if AD comes back or not. If AD is out it’s doable, especially if we keep feeding him 15-20 shots a night, but unlikely. DLo doing DLo things could also ruin his odds, but AD coming back almost guarantees he doesn’t. Only one ball.

  2. It’s difficult, but possible.

He has to play as he does against New Orleans, averaging 19 shots per game (which is still his career high). He can’t keep deferring so much if he aims to do so.

But honestly? It’s not such a big accolade. Flagg can have one of the best rookie seasons ever if he keeps adjusting so well. Aim towards that, not to be the “best teenager ever”.

  3. In a rookie year the numbers are the least important. If you get it, excellent. If not, nothing happens.

If he continues to feel comfortable on the court and gradually takes control of the team, I will consider it a success.

  4. Doubtful. Unless thte make the in season tournament and have a pretty good run he’ll have to score 20 in 9 out of the next 10 games to tie and in every one to beat it and he’s only done this in 2 of the last 5. He’ll be a very respectable second though.

  5. There will be 2 more games scheduled before 12/18 either as part of the cup, or against teams out of the cup. So really would just need 10 out of 12. Still doubtful he gets there.
