Might Mets consider bringing back Harrison Bader to play CF?
What do you think that the Mets
like about benge? There’s a lot to like and I think that the
Mets are handling this, the right way saying that he’s
got a shot to come into spring training and when a job, do I
expect that necessarily? I don’t know. I mean, you look at
his numbers, he had a huge year and rocketed through the system
a little bit, but his offensive numbers petered out a little bit
in AAA in a small sample. Admittedly. I mean, look at the
athleticism is there. The speed, you can Envision him playing
center field with the arm that he has and and the glove as
well, he can hit, he’s got the bathtub all skills in. Are
and there’s immense potential
here as a potential future homegrown stud with the Mets, is he ready? Right away. That’s
the big question and in that sense I wouldn’t necessarily go
out and get a long-term solution in Center. If you truly
believe this kid has a future in a Mets, uniform,
maybe go out and get a stop Gap in Center to have him, start the
year less than the pressure a little bit on bench, so that he doesn’t have
to be the guy on opening day, but there is a
chance that you know, first couple of months of the year he
gets a call up and takes that job and runs Tony had his bench impact the
Mets offseason? Yeah, Max just alluded to it.
It’s a tough needle to thread right now because you do want to
give benj an opportunity to come up and potentially come up
very soon on the season if not opening day, but you also need to guard
yourself against the idea that maybe this guy’s not. What do
you think he is? Maybe he’s not quite going to be ready in April
or May maybe it takes a year longer than you think so it’s tough because you want to
go out and get someone who can play center field but most of
what you can get that can be impactful. It’s Gonna take a long-term deal,
Cody Bellinger as a long-term deal. Even a guy like Harrison
Bader. People say you can break him as in as a stopgap. Most
projections, have him getting a two-year deal, you know, eight-figure deal. You
don’t want to pay that if you think, Carson bench is the
guy. So the Mets are probably going to have to canvass the lower end of the free agent
Market, maybe the trade market. See if they can find someone who
they’re comfortable with bringing in from day one. But
are they also don’t mind? Moving on from potentially, like
May 15th. See, that’s the problem with a guy like better, I didn’t. He
makes perfect sense for them. That’s, we saw employ really
well in Elfia. He was a part of the team, two years ago. He killed the Mets in the month
of September but to your point it’s a
two-year commitment. Are you okay with Harrison Bader? Not
just as your opening day center, fielder next year, but
it bench is the guy is he going to be? Got it moves to a Corner
Spot. What does it mean for the future? Brendan Mo? There’s a lot of moving Parts
there. I would like the security of having somebody who can go
and feel the position at a very high level. This is a point was
had a bunch of clutch hits. So I think there’s a role for him
on this team but But considering David Stern’s had
Harrison beta 2 years ago, he lost out on playing time to
Tyrone. Taylor. I may like him kind of get the
sense. The Mets are moving on and I think bench at some point
this year Sal’s going to be there, guys. It’s also a two-way
street JJ because a guy like Harrison Bears going
to have to want to sign here. And if I’m him and I’m looking
at potential Landing spots. I see Carson Ben’s just like, we
all see Carson veg and I say, wait a second, am I going to
lose my playing time down the stretch to this guy? Let alone in 2027.
So it is a A street. And if I’m a
bait or type, I’m thinking maybe this isn’t the best
landing and that’s why Bellinger is the perfect fit. He
could play center field. Hey of bench comes up, you could
move them to left field or you can play him at first base, have
pth a little bit or if bench isn’t very good
weather. It’s initially whether it’s Midway through the year and
have to send them back down, don’t you can play center
field, he is the perfect fit and we talked about potentially
moving him to left field. You know, Brandon memos named Tony keeps coming up
and trade rumors here with all these rumors. What do you
think, memos rollers with the Mets in 86. I just think
it’s a tough guy to trade so I
think you if you’re the meds I think you have
to look at it that Brendan MO is our left fielder and maybe
you get creative maybe give them some th days. Maybe he
sits a little bit but by and large, red animal has
been a productive player. He’s on a contract that I think most
teams out there would not consider very tradable. He’s got
five years and roughly 100 million, little more than 100
million left. So, if you’re the Mets, are you going to pay
down that money to trade him elsewhere? I’m not sure.
That’s something you’re really Happy to stomach that’s not even
discussing the fact of red. Enamel has been a great
Ambassador Steward for the organization. This isn’t a
guy that you’re like dying to get rid of. So you talked about potentially
breaking up the core doing things a little differently. I
just find it a little hard to believe or hard to foresee. Brandon Nimmo being the
guy that they part
On Baseball Night in NY, Sal Licata, John Jastremski, Anthony DiComo and Max Goodman discuss CF for the Mets in 2026. Top outfield prospect Carson Benge has plenty of upside but without knowing an exact timeline for Benge, could former Met Harrison Bader make sense as an offseason target?

No this is not a good look
Absolutely not
they can get luis robert and see what he has and then call up benge
No way- quit it with mediocre players
Break up the core or we are going to continue to get the same results. Stop with the “he’s a great ambassador for the team”. That doesn’t equal winning
He had a career year with the bat. He's basically a glove guy. We have Taylor for that.
If they are serious about Tucker then you can go with a glove. Nimmo to DH/CF.
Bellinger will probably wind up back with the Yankees. Don't forget, his dad played for years in the Yankees system.
It's going to be almost impossible to land an ace this offseason because every team believes they will be in contention next year thanks to the expanded playoff format. The Mets might be better off trading for a top pitching prospect like Bubba Chandler. He was considered the second-best arm behind Nolan McClean. The Pirates have a pretty deep pitching staff but no offense. A trade of Mark Vientos, Ryan Clifford and a player to be named later might be enough to pry him away from the Pirates. The Pirates get two serious power hitters with loads of controllability If they were to add Vientos and Clifford to their lineup and they promote the top MLB prospect Konnor Griffin; they might be able to make a real run at a wild card spot, and the Mets would have two young controllable ace level pitchers.
I'd love to see the Mets trade for outfielder Denzel Clarke, he's and outstanding fielder with a lot of untapped potential at the plate. He's also five years younger than Tyrone Taylor.
No. Please, no.
A panel full of dreamers…same old same old. If you want some great information about what is going on then jump over to Mets Pod and listen to this guy Joe DeMayo. There is no one that covers this sport and
the Mets better.
NOOOOOOOOOO
most experts view Benge as a corner guy. I think AJ Ewing is the real CD of the future. Gild Glove high BA, stolen bases. Please stop acting like Bellinger is going to be a great Met playing in CF already. Guaranteed if he signs with the Mets it would end up being a terrible deal.
As a Yankee Fan. This guys plays an amazing outfield. Believe me. He doesnt Hit but he is fun to watch. I would Take him anytime in my lineup
Oh please. Bader ain't all that. Who really believes that Bader will be able to replicate last season?
This reminds me. It's garbage night, and I need to put out the recycling bin.
Ideally Mets are able to Trade Nimmo, sign Bellinger to play CF until Benge is ready and move Bellinger to LF and can play some 1B with Pete.
