π΄ LIVE | Seatte Mariners vs Detroit Tigers | MLB Division Series Game 3 2025 October 7, 2025
to have you with us. Major League Baseball on tap. It’s the Detroit Tigers taking on the Seattle Mariners. And now, first pitch coming at you right after the break. Seattle Mariners. So, almost ready to get underway. And starting this one, Luis Castillo. What do you have on him, Chris? Well, I’m interested to see how he utilizes his sinker to this lineup, boo. You know, it’s not necessarily his go-to primary pitch, but he does mix it in when he needs it. He’s just got to make sure that it’s not flat. Otherwise, it’s going to get hit hard. So, look for him to throw it up there when he needs a big double play, a ground ball, something like that to get out of an inning, change it up for a hitter. Also get those hitters looking down so that it opens up the top of the strike zone, especially late in an at bat. Hit hard on the ground to short. Crawford throws to first in time and Glaver Torres retired. And now the Tigers line up for manager AJ Hench. The sluggers in this lineup might not be too happy about the fact that the wind is blowing in today, Chris. Yeah. And you hear pitchers talk about how good it feels when the wind is at their back. And for hitters, you almost feel like beyond just the pitcher coming at you, you’ve got this other force coming against you. So important to try to get on top of the ball in terms of hitting line drives. You know, maybe really hard ground balls with a good exit velocity that’ll get you a base hit because it’s very frustrating. You just hit one on the screws, think it’s going to go out of the ballpark, and an outfielder is camped underneath it in front of the warning track. He makes the catch, and there’s two down. Hey man, four pitches, two outs. That is an excellent pace. Leftielder Riley Green. Here’s Riley Green singing. When the year’s over, he’ll have a new careerhigh for RBI’s in a season. That one ripped. hops over the wall and that’s an automatic double. The automatic double kind of feels like enjoying cruise control in your car. Boo. You don’t need to keep the pedal down as you cruise into second base. Just no worries in the world. You know what? He put a really good swing on that one. So, the go-ahehead run in scoring position. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Spencer Torqulson. Well, a really good chance right here to pick up a run in the top of the first after what seemed to be a real quiet start to the inning. That one finds the zone. Well, he’s realizing out there on the mound that he’s got to settle in pretty quickly or else he’s going to get hit hard in this first inning. Check swing now to look down to first and he went around. Not an easy call there, but that puts an end to the inning. So, no runs here on a base hit, no errors, and one left. So, now the Mariners offense gets to go to work for the first time. We’ve got no score. [Applause] Back here with my pal Singi. And on the hill today, TKO. We know he’s one of the best in the game. Doesn’t make many mistakes. And if he’s in a pinch, he’ll make up a pitch and throw something that you’ve never seen before. And now for Seattle, Randy Rosena. He set a new career high in home runs this year. And Sigy, he’s just trying to set the bar as high as possible. Now, a lot of pitchers have caught on to how good he is hitting the first pitch. Smart to avoid the zone right there. missed with a change up and it’s two and 0 and misses inside. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. And up next for Seattle, Cal Raleigh, a switch hitter batting right. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. A Rosarena aboard here at first with nobody out. [Applause] Swinging a miss and one and one. I got one ball, one strike and a swinging a miss. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. And that’s outside. Oh, he’s not afraid to fall into a two- strike count. Knows the strike zone very well. So much so that I think umpires will look at him and determine whether it’s a ball or strike if he swings or not. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. Oh, I’m not sure what he was waiting on right there. He got the change up and still wait on it. You rarely see that. And it almost makes you think that he was trying to set the pitcher up. I mean to first and he breaks for second. To second and he’s out. And now it’s Julio Rodriguez. First pitch just misses. got it started a little too early. Strike one. They can live up in the zone all game. If hitters will chase it, that’s just too much velocity. Hitters got to look down in the zone. That one misses and it’s two and one. Two out. Space is empty. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. That one well upstairs. And that’s ball three. That was absolute gas. Triple digits on the gun. It’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by. Two down. Do on. That’s a walk. Went with another change up and missed the spot. Two walks in the first has to be some cause for concern. I mean, you’re talking about a guy you want to pitch deep into the ball game. It’s not going to help with the pitch count right there. They can’t afford to hand out free bases at this rate. Jorge Palano now in the box. Comes up empty with a swing there. Next pitch is downstairs. One ball, one strike. Fouled off left side. [Music] The one two that one missed. [Applause] Cuts on it and misses. That’s a strike out. Pulled the string on the change up. One left for Seattle. We played an inning. No score. Top of the second. Here’s the second base. Colt. Colt Keith Castillo back to work inside. Just missed. Next pitcher slider that misses outside. Back door breaking ball just missed right there. And boy, umpire didn’t give him the call. I bet you if he throws it again, hitter knows he’s going to have to swing it. [Applause] That one misses. So, a lead off walk. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat. And here’s the catcher, Dylan Dingler. First pitch and he just misses. Right through there for a strike. Castile will look to first. He dives and can’t get back in time. He’s picked off. Unless you’re really thinking about stealing second base, you should not get picked off by a right-handed pitcher right there. And there’s a ball and a popup right side foul territory. Naylor calls it in. Two away. batting seven. Third baseman, Zack Mckin. Zack McKinstry will hit next. Chris, it’s been a good year for him, having already set a new career high for RBI’s in a season. Just off the inside edge. Second inning here. No score. Next offering misses. Two and 0. Two balls, no strikes. Fast ball for a strike. Right down to shoot. Two balls, two strikes. The count, [Applause] two outs. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. Caught a break right there. Pretty good pitch on the outside corner and he grounds one back up the middle. Toss to Naylor. That’s out number three. Tigers fail to make any noise. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. Back here in Detroit ready to go for the last half of the inning. Auheno Suarez up to the plate now. Io Suarez. And that is out of play. And that one misses up and in. And the count is one and one. The 1-1 is fouled off. Into the outfield. Nice hit. So a board to start the inning. Love how he let that ball travel. Trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. Here’s Josh Naylor. Pulls that one foul. lifted in the air down the left side and that’s a fair ball. Green hurries it back in. Rudder stops at second and the first two reach to start the inning. Couple of singles back to back. I don’t know how he’s able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it. That pitch was inside and he let it get really deep. So, pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it. Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. Mitch Garver up to hit here on the corner for a strike. Suarez on second. Naylor on at first with nobody out and takes low from ball one. Way to lay off that pitch down and that one fouled off. [Applause] And he deals out. Got him swinging. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. Here’s Victor Robas. Victor Robless [Applause] and that one fouled off. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot. [Applause] And that’s in there for a strike. Quickly nothing at two. Man, that pitch was dotted. So much talent on display when this guy’s out there on the hill. Striking three and that’s two in a row. JP Crawford gets a chance to hit. Rolled softly, but that goes foul. [Applause] That one a little bit high and it’s one and two. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. The shorts stop takes the ball. First and second, two down. Bottom half of inning number two. [Applause] A little bit high and it’s three and two. Really good take especially with two strikes. [Applause] Found off again and it remains three and two. Two on, two outs, and they’re all loaded up. Well, he earned his trip to first right there. It’s not easy laying off pitches that just miss the zone like that. And it’s a real discipline as well. He’s put a lot of work into that aspect of his game and it paid off right there. [Applause] Rosarina in the box now takes strike one. There it was. A high velocity fastball in the zone. I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter. He’s got good stuff. Pitch inside the zone and trust it. Next offering is outside. [Applause] This one high in the air to left center and that will end the inning and the Mariners strand the bases loaded. We’ll move to the third with no score. Well, here we go. Top of the third scoreless game. So, here’s Bayz now. Bobby Bayz, like fellow Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor, born in Puerto Rico, but was drafted in the first round out of high school in Florida. Fly ball center field. Rodriguez settles under it and out number one on the grab. Batty Knight, centerfielder Parker. Now here is Parker Meadows. This is a guy who’s in the lineup first and foremost because of what he contributes defensively, Chris. And when you talk about preventing runs from being scored, this guy is a big contributor in the air right field. They got it for out number two. Now batting designated Torres up to hit. Torres hitting leadoff in today’s game and he was born in Venezuela. Check swing called strike. Headed down the line and that drops foul. Two down. Doan. Swing and a miss. And he’s down on strikes. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Tigers are shut down there and we’re still knotted at zero. Back at Kame Park. Here’s some real power at the plate. Called Cal Raleigh. and a swing and a miss there. Well, these Mariners showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’ve worked three walks already, so that proves they’re not anxious up there. They’re sticking to their game plan and it’s working. [Applause] That missed by a lot and it’s two and one. [Applause] swings through that one. Well, and those hitters count sometimes can be a little too aggressive and a good pitcher will play off of that. He’s got to get a better pitch to hit. Ah, that hit him. And the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. Leading off Julio Rodriguez up next for the Mariners. De Walk in his first trip to the plate singing. You got to appreciate a guy who’s this good defensively. I mean, watching him track balls in the outfield, it is beautiful. Turned on, but that’s fouled down the third baseline. He’s so solid. Calms the heart rate of the pitcher and the manager when the ball goes up in the air. You just automatically assume that it’s an out every time it’s hit in the air [Applause] and just misses with that one. That’s a really good take. [Applause] That ball’s foul. Still tied at zero. Last of the third. Swings and misses. Struck him out. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base. And the defense breathes a sigh of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. Keep him off balance. Get him out of there and deal with the next guy. The batter now Jorge Palano struck out swinging his first time. Runner takes off. That’s ripped. Base hit. And they’ll have runners at the corners after a one out single. Oh, no waiting around right there. He was ready to swing it on the first pitch. Just a very nice approach and swing right there to use the big part of the field. Everything was on time. He stayed balanced through the entire swing and just launched that one into center. Au Suarez up to hit now and the first pitch misses for ball one. Well, all eyes on the double play ball in this spot. No better way to get out of this inning. Though Chris through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. And another ball [Applause] sliced hard but foul. off the mark there. Three in one. Josh Naylor in the OD circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and do it. And that’ll load the bases. Well, he’s normally going to fill up the strike zone and really limit base runners, but his command in this one just seems off out there. A lot more walks than he’s used to giving up. And now it’s Josh Naylor. Golden opportunity right here. And there’s a breaking ball that drops in there. Tough situation right here. So important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there. Bases loaded, one away here in the last half of the third. Ground ball could be two. Offbalance feed. There’s one double play. What a twin killing to end the inning. Just trying to sneak one through with the bases loaded, but an excellent job by the defense to turn that one and get out of this jam. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Carrie Carpenter. Foul ball there out to short. Crawford sends it across to first. Lead off hitter retired in the fourth. Oh, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. So, digging in, Riley Green doubled his first time. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Dominant performance for him today, Boo. Just two hits allowed so far. No runs across either. And he’s had an answer for just about every hitter he’s faced. So, I don’t think this hit is going to knock him off his stride too much. Go ahead. Run on base. And now Spencer Torqulson. Pitch misses there. And that’s ball one. and that one is inside. Probably looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. Green at first. One gone. Next offering is fouled back. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. Fast ball for a strike at 95. Ground baller. There’s one. What a double play that was. Inning over. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left to the bottom of inning number four. Now we’re tied nothing. Nothing. [Applause] And we’re back. Bottom of the fourth now. The Mariners catcher Mitch Garber. Mitch Garber. There’s the strike. Generally, second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. That’s towards center. Meadows sizes this one up, puts it away for the out. Going up, one down. Now that right. And now it’s Victorless up to hit. Struck out swinging his first time. This is a guy you got to keep an eye on when he digs in. Definitely been known to drop a drag bunt from time to time and he’s pretty good at it, Chris. Yeah. and he creates a sense of urgency for the defense because of the speed, because of the ability to put down that bunt. Fouled off down the right side. Now you see even sluggers from time to time try and use the bunt really as a way to beat the shift. That one finds the zone. Now he’s in a one-two hole. Two strike. [Applause] And that one almost hit him. two strikes foul ball left side. He’ll see another one upstairs. One out. Base is empty. And a swing and a miss. And that’s six Ks for him in this one. This guy will throw any pitch in any count. 32. He goes off speed, gets the JP Crawford. and stepping in for the Mariners, JP Crawford. The shorts stop takes the ball. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Right side. And that’s just foul. And that one fouled off. Swing and a miss. And Scooble gets the strike out. So no runs, no hits, no errors, and no one left. We’re headed to the fifth. No score. Back here in Detroit, the batter down Colt Keith Castillo back to work hit in the air right field and that one way back there and that is way gone. And it gives him the lead in the fifth. It’s one- nothing. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive and it paid off. [Applause] Love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat. You watch him from the on deck circle. So when you step in the box, you’re ready to pull the trigger wherever it’s at. Really good job by the hitter. Total conviction on that swing. [Music] And up next for Detroit, Dylan Dingler. First time up was a pop out. just missed. All one, no strikes and the one fast ball for a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. And a foul ball. Foul ball still a one and two count. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Fouls it off. Still one and two. [Applause] Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. [Applause] And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Five foul balls in a row. I have no idea what that feels like, but you got to love this battle. Just wondering who’s going to blink first. Misses off the play. Two and two. Ninth pitch of the at bat. Do next on the inside corner for strike three. Absolutely dotted the edge of the zone right there. That was a tough battle, man. So to make a really quality pitch and just catch him looking like that, it’s got to feel good out there on the M. That’s a fun to watch. Now the third baseman, Zack McKinstreed out his first time up. Check swing didn’t go and that is ball one. [Applause] just miss. That one’s spoiled and the count now two and one. One out. Base is empty and a run in. And we’re in the top of the fifth. That clips the corner. Not close with that one. Ball three and La Pedro picks up the K. Well, just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball right there and I don’t think he was taking it. thinking it might be a cold ball or anything. I just think he was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Next offering is fouled back. Two outs. Swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. Robless settles under it and makes the catch and that’s the third out. Solo shot for Detroit this inning. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. Back after this on the show. Back at Kame Park now. It’s Randy Rosarena. All these fans definitely want to get involved in the game. All it’s going to take is to get the leadoff man or even a base runner on. And here it comes. Gets the outside corner with that one. And that drops in for a strike. And one and two. on the ground to third. Throw on to Turkelson. They get the out on a Rosarena. Now that is designated hitter, Cal Raleigh. Now the number two hitter, Cal Raleigh. This guy with light tower power. If you don’t get ahead in the count, you can forget about having any success against him. Yeah, big swing and a miss. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average. And that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up to this point. [Applause] Ripped but a curls foul. The M’s down by a run. Last half of inning number five. Started after the one-two pitch. Appeal to first and he went around. Rule the swing. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now. Here’s the center fielder, Julio Rodriguez. He is struck out and he is walked. Swing and a ground ball out to short. Bayz fires over to first. Rodriguez out on the play. Three up, three down. Inning over. Nobody left for Seattle. And it remains one- nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. And stepping in is the speedy Parker Meadows. to the right side, Palano. And that’s one out as they get the lead off hitter in the six. He’s been going after these guys consistently and as a result, he’s been able to keep his pitch count low, throwing the ball very well right now. So, the batting order turns over. Here’s Glamber Torres. Struck out on just three pitches last time. Just missed. Base is empty, one away, and we’re the top half of the sixth. Next pitch off the play. Two balls, no strikes. Next offering is fouled back. Next offering is in for a strike. That’s inside. Swag and a miss. Struck him out. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound. Carrie Carpenter up now for the Tigers. Two in this one. at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. A Rosarena sizing this one up. He’s got it. And that is out number three. Nothing doing for the offense that time. To the bottom of the six we go. 456 coming up. It’s the Tigers one and the Mariners nothing. And we’re back. Bottom of the sixth inning. Now it’s the second baseman, Jorge Palanco. Palanco in his ninth season, 31 years old, and he was born in the Dominican Republic. Right through there for a strike. 0 and one. [Applause] Check swing appeal to first. No swing. Just held it back there. Fast ball is outside. [Applause] on the ground right side and it stays fair around first digging for two. The throw into second. Throw pulls him off the bag and he’s safe. Well, that may end up being an at bat. We go back to later on when this game is over. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Now a pretty big at bat coming up with a chance to even this ball game up. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Here’s a big power throw. Auheno Suarez. That’s in there. That’s strike one. [Applause] swing and a miss with the go ahead run at the plate here in the bottom of the six. Goes down looking. Well, that bat seemed to be over as soon as it started. Three pitch strikeout. You’ve got to be better at the plate right there at least to foul something off. extend that at bat. And here’s the first baseman, Josh Naylor. One for two. First offering misses badly for ball one. Man at second. Change up on the corner at the knees. And a count one and two. Palano the runner at second with one away. Swing and a miss. Had him out front for the strikeout. So, back-to back strikeouts now and they still haven’t managed to do anything with the leadoff double. Yeah, Bo, you just don’t want to get careless here if you’ve done a really good job to get two outs after that leadoff doubled as you mentioned and just got to execute your pitches and it’s a non-issue. And now the catcher comes up to him. Mitch Garver cut on and lifted in the air. Drops into the glove and that is the inning. Mariners leave one. They’re down one- nothing. Back here in Detroit, here’s the left fielder, Riley Green. Green. Pitch misses. One and0. Ball. One, no strike. They had a foul ball late that time. And it’s strike two. One ball, two strikes. Got a good eye there. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. That misses the zone. Three and two now. That one misses. So lead off walk. I don’t think he really wanted to pitch to him right there. Anyhow, now batting first. Spencer Torlson the next to hit. There’s a strike. Some activity in the Mariners bullpen. Gabe Spire, the left-handed reliever, appears to be getting loose. Hancock warming up as well. Just missed. That misses now. Two balls in a strike. Fouls it back with two strikes. [Applause] Kylie miss struck him out. So he picks up his six strike out of the ball game. We’re going to take a look at the pitch sequence of that at bat. And the thing to notice are the pitch locations. Every single one of them on the edges of the strike zone. And as a hitter, that can be pretty frustrating because you don’t expect the pitcher to be able to make quality pitches one after another like that. And so those are tough spots to do damage. And a great demonstration of pitch command and it got him a punch out that time. Now it’s going to be Colt Keith. His homer earlier is responsible for the only runs they’ve scored in this one. Yeah, forget small ball. They’re kind of living and dying by the long ball so far in this one. on the ground. Could be two. The underhand flip. There’s one double play. What a quick killing to end the inning. So, no runs in the inning despite the leadoff walk. And that does it midway in inning number seven. And it’s time to stretch. It’s the Tigers one and the Mariners nothing. Bottom of the seventh. Leading off, Victor Robless. And that misses. And that’s ball one. [Applause] Inside. Just missed. Struggled a little bit in this one. Couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hit. Looking to get the tying run on base. Swinging a highf fly ball. Well struck. That’s back there. That’s gone. And we are all tied up. It’s 1-1. Listen to these fans. This place is absolutely buzzing right now. You can feel the energy all the way up here in our broadcast booth. There was a sinker up in the zone. It looked like it came out of the pitcher’s hand a little bit too early. Doesn’t have the velocity that that good for seam fast does. And at the plate, he didn’t miss it. Here comes the manager out of the dugout. And he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Too done for the day. And it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Raphael Montero comes on now for Detroit. Number 99, Raphael Monttero. Now it’s the shortstop JP Crawford. that misses the zone. Ball one. Well, these Mariners, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings. They’ve hit seven line drives already. And even though some of them have been for outs, there’s nothing wrong with delivering consistent hard contact. That’s almost always going to lead to positive results. And that one missing inside a sharp slider. That one the other way. That’s a base hit. And the go ahead run is on base. Well, they call that an advantage count for a reason. You’re so much more likely to get something you can handle. That pretty much split the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay. Now the left fielder, Randy or Rosarena. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get in the scoring position. [Applause] Ball one, no strikes. The real threats are coming up. Already giving up a home run in this inning. He’s going to really have to bear down. [Applause] Montto fires. to third. Fire ball. Can’t bl it cleanly. Now second and third and nobody out. Now that is every hitter Cal Raleigh. And now Cal Raleigh. Got to be careful with a slugger like this because he can turn it into a three-run game in the blink of an eye. This is all about situational hitting. It’s crucial in this spot. Do whatever it takes to put the ball in play. Calling for the intentional walk and that loads up the bases and the force play is now in order. Julio Rodriguez coming to the plate now in a big spot. This is a big spot for a big time player. and that’s in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. The opportunity for a huge inning exists right here. Bases loaded, nobody out. But as a hitter, can’t be over anxious. That pitcher is up against the wall. Make him come to you. Late swing fouled all. You need a strike out and you need a ball perhaps on the ground for a double play or get yourself a popup something. But you got to make some pitches. But if he can battle and get through this, he can earn some points. That’s a little bit low. [Applause] And the slider just misses. Well, I I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed. I mean, it could have gone either way, but he looked a little shocked for a second there. This one is blasted. A no doubter grand slam. [Applause] That should get the dugout going. Second home run of the inning for him. And they jump in front in the seventh. It’s 51. That one just sounded different and might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I can feel that swing from the boot. [Applause] That was quite the home run, Sigy. As we take it in again with Stackcast, 114 milesPH off the bat. Yeah. And plenty of distance, too. I mean, with that kind of exit, Vo, if you can get it up in the air with good backspin, it’s going to be a tape measure shot. And here comes the Tigers manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Raphael Montero out of the game. And as he heads off, we’ll step aside for a minute. Back with the new pitcher after this break. New pitcher for the Tigers, Kaider Monttero. And we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. Montero. Jorge Palano up next for the Mariners. And first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. [Applause] That one missing inside. Activity in the bullpen. Troy Melton getting loose for AJ Hinch. Kanley also getting ready. The 1-1 swinging a foul out of play. [Applause] Fights that one away. Still one and two. fouls that off to the left and will do it again. Offense exploding for five so far in the inning here. The bottom of the seventh foul ball still one and two count. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. That one in the dirt. The countdown now two and two. This guy’s a fun guy to watch taken at bat. He just battles up there. He doesn’t take a pitch off at all. Makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there. You can tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away. [Applause] swings and misses. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at like that one. Auo Suarez digs in now. And first offering is fouled off. I want to start that load a little bit sooner because of the good VLOO. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. One down. Base is empty. That one just misses. One ball, two strikes to count. [Applause] Two balls, two strikes. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Two outs. Base is empty. Josh Naylor up next for the Mariners. One for three. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. McKinstry makes the grab. That is the inning. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now 51. You’re dialed into the show. Welcome back. And a new arm of the mound to start the eighth. Luke Jackson. He has a great slider with tons of movement. Number 49, Luke Jackson, Dylan Dingler, getting ready to hit. Known for his rocket arm behind the plate. Clips the corner. Strike one. Action in the bullpen for Seattle. Caleb Ferguson getting loose out there. The one and a slider misses down and away. Here’s a high chopper. Garber with the throw to first and that’s one away as the leadoff man is out in the eighth. batting third base Zack McKinstry. Here’s the third baseman, Zack McKinstry. Highfly ball out to center field. Rodriguez settles under it, brings it in. Two away. Now batting shorts stop Javier Bayz. Jav Bayz digs in right side. Sing, you talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. 0 and2 now and a curve misses outside. Well, that’s kind of what you expect in an 02 count. Excellent job of the hitter to have the plate disciplined to lay off of that pitch. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. Chopped left side. Suarez. Now the throw to first on the run. Nicely done for the Owl. Nothing doing here this half. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead. It’s the M’s five and the Tigers won. Back at Kame Park ready for the bottom of the eighth. And now for Seattle. Mitch Garver. Harvard Monttero back to work. That one finds the zone and that is strike one. Monttero, a guy that features an absolute power slider, throws that pitch a lot. He throws it hard and gets a ton of swings and misses. next offering upstairs. And I think being able to expand with that pitch as you start to offer at it that he can move it just a little bit further away. Before you know it, you’re trying to hit a pitch that’s off the plate. Swings through that one. It’s a strikeout. Victor Robless will hit next. He’s already homerred in this game. Swing a miss at a slider. Oh, and one base is empty. One away. The bottom half of the eighth inning and downstairs. fouls it off. Still one and two. One down. Base is empty. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow right field and that’ll fall for a base hit. Now batting shorts stop JP Crawford. So up next JP Crawford. Monttero throws over. Robless dives back in that one outside and it’s one and0. Runner. Here goes the runner. pitch in for a strike. Safe in second and that was not close. Well, with that kind of elite arm he has behind the plate, man, it’s a pretty big deal when you can swipe a bag against this dude. Maybe more than anything, it prevents teams from just testing him thinking that they can even steal a base. But right here, they successfully move that runner up to scoring position. Good job. Fast for a strike. One out and a runner at second. Two strike. Pickoff throw and he dives back in safely. hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Well, Boo, I’ll tell you, when he goes to look at the video of that pitch, he’s going to want to punch himself. That slider had hit me written all over it, and clearly he just got a little too excited. It was out in front. Tell you what, when you get a pitch like that, you cannot miss it. Those have a chance to go a long way. Rosarena in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. He swings and fouls one off. Well, he gave up on that pitch early and it ended up staying in the zone. I’m sure he’s kicking himself and would like that pitch again. Man on second, two down. going to count one and two. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. [Applause] Two outs and one in scoring position. Fights that one away. Still one and two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. One left for Seattle. They’re up 5-1. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Caleb Ferguson. and they felt it was time to bring on a left-handed reliever from the pin with the lefty hitter coming up. I think it’s a good move. I know I never liked when opposing teams did that to me. So, digging in Detroit, we talked about guys with good speed and definitely he has it. But pushing the offense aside for just a second, Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. just really impressive because there’s certain times a ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. [Applause] The 1-1 is fouled off. [Applause] That one missed. [Applause] Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. [Applause] Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. [Applause] chases the fast up the ladder. Struck him out. He came out of his mechanics there. Typically likes to shoot the ball the other way, but that time a little anxious. He’s two outs away. Next to the plate is the Tigers DH. Glabber Torres 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out on the ground right side fires over to first and Glabber Torres retired now batting right fielder Carrie Carpenter so they’re down to their final out and next up for the Tigers Carrie Carpenter 0 for three with two fly outs and a ground out [Applause] and first offering is fouled off. Ferguson 28 years old and they traded for him earlier this year. [Applause] There’s a strike. Ferguson is just one strike away. [Applause] And they’ll do it again. [Applause] Andy O2 and that’s downstairs and outside. One ball, two strikes count. Sends it to center and that’s going to do it. Ball game. I don’t care if you’re a top team or you’re a middle of the pack team. Every ball club wants to be dominant at home. Winning a game like this just helps to boost the confidence and makes you look forward to coming out again for the next one. 51 is how it ends for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show.
