Teams offensive and defensive spending (2025)

  1. This makes want Shula even more. He’s working with one of the cheapest defensive groups (a bunch of young players on their rookie contracts and a few undrafted free agents) and they are the one of the best defensive groups in the NFL.

What’s even more impressive is that they have only 1 player on defense that they drafted in the first round since 2017:

  2. This chart looks even worse when you consider that like 90% of their dead cap is on offense.

  3. The performance of the defense is more important than the price. Regardless of their contracts the coaching/scheme is the issue.

  4. I’ve said this in other threads but just take a minute to look at who is on the Rams defense if you have a minute.

Jared Verse is the only 1st rounder they drafted, Braden Fiske is a 2nd rounder, Byron Young and Kobie Turner are 3rd rounders. That’s their front 4 and Poona Ford is an UDFA. Their secondary is formerly disgraced CB Emmanuel Forbes, 4th rounder CB Cobie Durant…their safeties are 3rd rounder Kameron Kitchens and their two SS’s are UDFAs who have both contributed and played well. Both LBs are UDFAs.

All of this and they have one of the best defenses in the league. Doing the most with less. He’s young, exciting and we talk a lot about player pedigrees…he’s got a ton of coaching pedigree. He is worth the “gamble” on an inexperienced head coach. I’d be really excited with him and he is my #1 wishlist coach.

The offense will come down to who he puts in charge, which will be just as important as him becoming the coach
