This isnt even half of the times they used the top of the key high screen for mpj play last night but any more clips and this will be considered torture.

(Sorry for audio glitch)

A few plays from last night. Anything seem familiar between them?

  1. Our big men this season are just awful defenders across the board. They try but they aren’t capable. Nemi has been a rough defender outside the paint since UtSt and just hasn’t figured out that aspect (despite the offense improving drastically) and Garza’s footspeed isn’t enough.

Coaches can’t really adjust to this cause you have to play drop or likely just give up layups/corner 3 on repeat if you blitz with them. If you go small, a bad rebounding team gets worse. Tough spot to be in.

It’s a reset year. We all knew this was likely and I’m just watching the games hoping for internal improvement as much as possible. We need major major upgrades up front if we want to become contenders again. Even just a defensive-first big or two is fine. Again, this was known after our top 3 from last season were gone. Tatum should very likely wait till next October to return as there’s no reason to push it this season.

  2. The center giving way too much space during the hand off. MPJ has proven he can score but not that he can pass out of a high hedge double. On the second play for instance if they both blitz the hand off, MpJ would then dump to claxton who should be guarded by Minott rolling over. Leaves an open three for a rookie but the nets would have to execute perfectly and i would rather that rookie take the three than MPJ

  3. That’s just terrible defense from Queta and Garza to stand that far back and still give up a layup. The 3s I can live with

  4. Gotta get better at the high pick pnr/pop defense. Our bigs and our guards gotta communicate better

  5. Didn’t see the game but did they try hard hedging/recover the handoffs?
Deny the high post entry passes?

  6. When Queta is sitting there in drop like ten feet away I can’t tell if it’s Joe’s fault or Queta’s fault. Was that the defense they wanted, or did Queta fuck it up?

  7. From the stats they showed early on in the game about Celtics being lowest in the league of giving up points in the paint, my guess is Joe’s scheme is to dare teams to beat us beyond the arc, hence Queta staying in drop coverage on these PnRs the whole game.

  8. Jordi fernandez is a good coach. He abused our coverage the whole night and Joe did nothing to adjust.
