Coach Coen on Jaguars’ Dominant Win Over Chargers | Jacksonville Jaguars
It seemed like today for the offense, there was a lot of creativity in terms of the play calling, the the the ways you you guys were able to get players open, the run game. Just how did you feel about that aspect of the game and sort of the efficiency there? Yeah, I just thought we executed at a high level. You know, I thought that um you know, we came out from the beginning, executed, executed, you know, just really in all three phases obviously as a team, but offensively I just thought uh you know, it started with being able to run the ball efficiently and effectively. Um, I thought Trevor was was playing really well, especially, you know, just spitting the ball accurately, especially going through a lot of progressions, getting to the number two or three or four read in the progression a few times. Um, you know, we were good in the red zone, solid on third down. Um, you know, didn’t have all those self-inflicted wounds, you know, that that we have kind of been hurt by in weeks past. I thought the guys just executed and played their tails off. And I I think I saw Trevor wearing wearing a wristband. Just why why today? And then what does that do for him? I I thought it actually really helped us. We don’t, you know, we did it for not the whole plan and everything. It was some specific stuff that we we wanted to maybe play a little bit faster and just have a little bit more tempo in and out of the huddle and uh just more clarity on some of the things. And I I know it definitely helped us for sure. I think I think today. Liam, how would you describe the the strain on both lines of scrimmage, your offensive line, your defensive front, and the physicality they that’s where we won the game. I thought, you know, that’s where we uh imposed our will a little bit there on the O and DL. Came out um obviously defensively they came out throwing a few screens early. You could tell um that they just wanted to get the ball on the perimeter and um we were hunting up front, that’s for sure. very proud of Josh Hines Allen getting the franchise record. Um, but it was it was a group effort really that that whole group, the whole front, all those guys that got in and and had the ability to rush and create uh some havoc and kind of keep them under duress. Uh that was really what helped us win that game and it’s that’s where it started. Liam, you had to at least be mildly concerned with how your team would respond. I don’t know that you had this in the forecast, but unbelievable response. Is that like above and beyond what you could have expected? I mean, yeah, you’re you’re questioning how you’re going to respond, but it wasn’t necessarily a huge concern, I don’t think. I think, you know, I talked to you guys about it a little bit the other day. It was a quieter week and um I think that was probably because we were pissed off at the, you know, at the finish last week and we play better pissed off. we are we’re we’ve talked about edge for a long time now and um when we have an edge and we play as a team and it’s about the team all the time um good things happen typically for us and I am proud of the response for sure I wasn’t really uh true concerned it was just hey man you don’t know we’re all new together as a team right we’re all so new and so um you’re you’re hopeful you you know that there was a focus level last night in the team meeting. I felt it um that these guys were going to come out pissed off today. Liam, you were down a bunch of guys today. You know, the wide receivers, Anton down three corners, I guess, at one point. Yeah. I mean, what does that say about the way you guys were able to respond against that kind of adversity? That was what, you know, Bill Sheridan, one of our defensive coaches, mentioned to me as I was walking in the locker room is, you know, look at the amount of guys that that contributed to this game really in all three phases because those injuries um that impacts not just obviously the defensive position, right, the quarterback position. Well, it now impacts special teams and is asking other guys to move and maneuver and uh play more. And um Christian Bradwell stepping up, right? so many guys. Uh BJ Green obviously had the one deal on the penalty, but he played his tail off. Sugar, those young guys obviously stepped up. Um you know, it just speaks to the, you know, it they knew that we needed to respond. That was really what it came down to. And you when you have guys out there playing for each other, playing for the greater cause and uh the team first mentality, you know, that’s what it was is everybody was involved in it. Um, and I’m really proud of them. You, you said you could tell last night at the team meeting they were pissed off. Yeah. How can you give us a little color on that? You know, we it’s a hard week, man. You know, that was a hard obviously last Sunday. And you know, when you have that taste in your mouth and it has to live there all week and you you can only get so much of that taste out of your mouth in practice and going through the the game planning and you’re going through it and uh last night we just talked about guys, this is let’s keep this real simple. Um let’s go out and cut it loose for four quarters as a team and see what happens. Like, let’s just go cut it loose, man. I don’t want to think about what could happen, what should happen, what happened on the play before, what’s going to happen three plays from now. Just play in the moment, stay in the moment, pick each other up when something bad happens, and let’s move on as a team. So, yeah, I definitely had a good feeling about the way that we would respond, but you never know until obviously you get into it. Couple more up at the top. Will Brown Jacksonville today. Three of the first four Chargers offensive possession started with a either a tackle for loss, a intentional grounding or a very positive play for the defense. How did that help the defense in your opinion set the tone for the rest of the four quarters? It was a huge uh you know response obviously from our defense. I thought the defensive staff led obviously by Campy did a great job of um you know we had some different guys playing in some spots but you know sort of trimming the inventory making it about what we do best um putting the POS players in a position to be successful um as much as possible but and just letting them go like that was the biggest thing about our defense today was uh they played with their own creativity like just go play guys just go play it’s not about this or that or that. Can’t be a perfect play all the time, guys. It’s about you just going out and causing chaos and doing your job to the best of your ability. And I think that that set the tone obviously for the defense, but for really our whole team. I mean, we’ve been um you know, when we play well on defense, typically we win. And that’s the reality. And I know that those guys uh they were specifically pissed off about the way last week ended. And um you know, really wanted to set the tone for our team today. And I thought they did that. Seems like Trevor and Jacobe have already built a pretty good connection. How impressive is that after being together for 10, 11 days, whatever it’s been? You know, speaks to uh the pro that that Jacobe is. Um you know, the trust that they already have is pretty cool to see. You see it at practice. um the way that he prepares. You know, I walked into the uh meetings last night before everything got going and Jacobe was in one of the meeting rooms, the walkthrough rooms, walking through on his own uh going through the game plan with with Edgar, I think. So, um you know, just a quality quality person and and he’s worked his tail off to learn the plan. I mean, he’s not out there busting assignments and making uh you know, poor decisions. I mean, he obviously I don’t know what he had statistically today, but I know he made some critical catches over the middle and some big first downs on third down for us. So, uh, really pleased to have him, coach. Thank you. Yeah. Thank you

Great game Jags way to win! FINISH STRONG!
Focus on the run!! Keep the pressure off Trevor.. good win
Far less penalties today too!!!
Way to respond after some unfortunate losses! Great win start to finish
Now THAT"S how we should be playing. This team can win it all, I know we have it in us.
I cannot wait for the finished product of Liam and Trevor! Liam is going to have Trev playing at an elite level soon.
Meyers is going to get the best out of BTJ.
Can’t be mad at all go duvallllllll
Now THAT'S the way you come back from a tough loss.
Commanders fan. Ever since they made fun of him for saying "Duvallllllllll" I've been a Liam Cohen fan! And I'd never heard it. I understand it. But good win guys!! I'm undercover rooting for Jacksonville cuz i like the coach. I think y'all got a good on. Be patient.

Quality win! Need to get up for a non playoff team next week in Arizona…win that game we supposed to win
Great game today ❣️
Not going to get too high. All I’m going to say is that Coen is the right guy. I believe we have the right leadership in place for the first time since the 90s. Top to bottom. Loved Marrone too but not everyone else.
Big win! This is what it’s supposed to like minus the Trevor INT
Go Jags!
Here once again to say….
IN LIAM WE TRUST😤🐆🐆🐆🐆🐆🐆🐆🐆🐆DTWD
Great game! Not only did the boys ball out but the coaching was phenomenal! Keep it up Coach! Go Jags 🤘🏼
Damn…As a Jags fan from day one, I’m not used to seeing the Jags play like that. It honestly didn’t even look like our team to me. And, that’s a compliment. Super proud and happy for the guys and coaches. Great win..
This is the type of offense we need going forward give Trevor confidence and we have a 2 headed monster in the back field and Trevor can run the ball and can pass it when he needs to so great win and great chiefs loss 😂.go jags
That's how you play football. Great job.
Liam the GOAATT
We needed this w in this fashion to 🫡 duuuuuuvvvvvaaaaaalllll
“We play better pissed off!” “Cut it loose!”
I know we're not going to win every game, but is it too much to ask for some consistency?
As a Bucs fan, I miss Coen so glad he’s been successful even under the circumstances with the Bucs
The guy who took Herbert out the game needs more playing time the way he fired off the ball omg let him off the chain !
Thanks coach Coen for taking my suggestion last week on playing more these rookies
You did it coach!!!
They bring the new energy and excitement to the team as it showed on Sunday
Go Jags!!!
