New York Islanders Pregame Availability | NYI vs SEA (11/23/25)
Yeah, Patrick, obviously we just got the news about Romy and how long he’s going to be out. I’m sure you had a suspicion it might be a long-term thing. What, you know, how is he doing and and and how does the team move on from this? Well, first of all, he’s not happy. There’s no doubt about it. But um like I said, we had the we didn’t have the same opinion uh of the league when that happened. Um and uh but again, we uh we have to move on and and you don’t replace a player like him. you hope that the guys coming in will fit in and uh hopefully that u will play like he’s been playing. So, I mean, it’s an opportunity for him and and he needs to take advantage of it and and it be we’ll see what Metsu decides, but I mean, we have Marshall that played really well for us and and we we’re comfortable to have him playing and if he has to. Was your opinion kind of reinforced when you see Mo gets suspended anyway for another kind of questionable hit? Yeah, when the play happened, I didn’t have the perfect view. So when I saw him going down, I really thought he he had a a more a lot more serious injury. I mean, it’s a serious one because season is over, but I thought maybe a broken neck or something like this because I saw the referee. So I mean obviously I mean be passionate and love your player. You know, you that passion you don’t have you don’t go halfway in passion. You love your players. you stand up for your players and and that’s what we do in this organization. Mitch and I will always be there for our players. We’re always going to protect our players and and we want our fans to be proud of that. You know, that’s that’s our role and and our players knows that we have their back and and I’m sure makes our fans proud to see that. At the same time, there was I I think their coach said that like Scott’s skates got tangled up with Mo on the play. Yeah. if if you don’t mind, we’re going to go to tonight’s game. I mean, nothing against I mean, yeah. No, I understand. You know, this everybody has their version and then I’m sure the league’s going to have to make decisions on him anyway from what he did last night in Calgary. So, but we’re going to focus on our team. Um, any lineup changes for tonight? There will be some changes, but we’ll make our decisions after warm-up. Um, sorry. Hey. Um, just with Alexander, is the once he has this surgery and goes through the rehab, is the idea that he’ll be ready for next season? Dr. W does not have the answer for this. Yeah, I’m sure Kimber will come with more details. Um, but as of now, we’re going to miss him for a long period of time. Sorry, it’s his right shoulder. I’m assuming, right? So, what have you seen? It’s a lot different this year, isn’t it? Yeah, but that’s just just what have you seen from Adam Boquis in in the games that he’s played so far? Well, he’s a puck mover. Hey, um he’s a guy that supports the rush. So, what we want to see is him continue to do that, but we also want to make sure he defends well, you know, like good squeeze and the entry, using his speed to his advantage, using those situation. And obviously um being able to take hits and being able to make plays under pressure, that’s something we going to want to see him continue to do well. With Shabov, you talked about how much you loved his game last night. What’s the balance of wanting to give him more minutes, but also how much chemistry he’s shown with Richie. How do you how do you balance that? I have to agree. I’m I’m sure everyone has seen this. I mean, the games that they play together, he seems to connect really well for some reason. Um, so I mean, um, it’s fun to see that and, um, we’re not going to fight that through. We’re going to let them play together and see how they continue to click together. But again, you know, it works. You try things, sometime work, sometime doesn’t, and you try more things later. And but as of now, I feel like they’re both playing really well together. So the plan is to keep them together. Yes. Patrick, you guys are undefeated on the second half of back-to-back. Just what have you liked about your team on I was hoping you didn’t ask a question. What have you guys been able to do well to start ready or anything like that? Well, we talked about the game before the game. I mean, um, we don’t want to lose two in a row. So, that’s the mindset we need to go with. Got to do whatever it takes to win the game. Um, yesterday, you know, St. Louis was played a good game. I mean they they um took advantage of of the half wall throwing at the point. So we talk about those adjustment that has to be made. There’s always adjustment you want to make but um I think for us is is is to playing north and and and and putting pressure on their D on the forch check sorry and press hard on our D zone. So, take some time and space away from from the other team, but this is a fast team we’re playing against today, so we’re going to have to be ready for that. That that’ll be a good test for our team. The war rulers for mix.
