3 years ago, I posted that the Chargers should start rookie Jamaree Salyer at Left Tackle after Rashawn went down. DO IT AGAIN.
November 23, 2025
He was the highest rated tackle of the 2022 Draft class – better than Penning, better than Deculus.
SALYER DESERVES RUN.

Why play Salyer when tou can play Deculus, newly acquired Penning, and everyone else EXCEPT Salyer there? /s
it depends what we want to do. if they’re actually going to commit to the run when hampton comes back, then it makes sense to keep deculus/penning in at LT. and for the love of god keep tucker fisk on that side to help chip.
but if we’re gonna continue to make justin drop back and try to pass deep, then yes, play jamaree for gods sake.
I don’t know what about the last two years makes people think this staff views Salyer as a viable option at tackle. They have refused to play him at tackle unless he was the last guy on the roster that was capable of doing so. They even traded for multiple players rather than give Salyer a shot
You can argue that he deserves it until the cows come home, but given their actions, this staff doesn’t feel the same way
Really seems its Salyer vs the world in getting a LT start. Never knew we’d have Penning, Deculus, or the PFF ranked 76/77 tackle at run blocking Trey Pipkins apologists. I’m really failing to see the argument. With all these injuries, we should still have the goal to make the playoffs but first and foremost, protect Herbert. If he suffers a Jayden Daniel’s type injury, it not only sinks this season but affects the next. That’s when the contention window truly opens due to the free agency money Hortiz has been stacking. The team is just so far ahead of schedule as is (ESPECIALLY with these injuries).
We still have Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter dunking on Bozeman to worry about too, on top of Denver and Houston’s defenses, and Spagnuolo dialing up blitzes. Now isn’t the time to experiment with first round busts.
Harbaugh got a front row seat to Salyer shutting down soon to be #2 overall pick Hutchinson in the 2021 CFB Playoffs. Should know exactly what he’s capable of. Plus had to go against players like Smith, Davis, and Carter daily in practice at UGA.
