Hughes, Myers, Lankinen & Adam Foote Post-Game Media | Canucks vs. Flames (Nov 23, 2025)

Yeah, I mean obviously uh not the result we wanted. Um yeah, where do you think things went wrong for you? You guys had such good starts scored. I mean obviously there in the second period. Um I mean I don’t know if uh we took three power plays there, one over the uh or one they had three power plays, one over the glass there. what that happens on sportsman like um I mean really good first and just uh fell fell apart there in the second a little bit. Quinton the uh your home ice record is another area struggles. Is there any reason behind like why can you put into words why you guys struggle on home ice? Yeah, I don’t know. Um I have no idea. I mean, you know, everyone’s trying hard and um yeah. Is the the power play goal tonight and the improved penalty killing something that your team can build off of going forward? I mean, obviously, uh we’re going to need our special teams to be good. Um I mean, hopefully the the penalty kill, we need the penalty kill, need the power play, and we’re going to need the special teams to win us some games. So, I mean, I would hope so. How tough is it to give up a short-handed goal at that time of the game? Yeah, it’s tough of course, but I mean, um, I don’t know how many shorties we’ve given up this year. You know, things are going to happen. Um, we’re going to give up another one this year. That’s just, uh, that’s just life. And obviously, we wish it didn’t happen at that point. It’s a shitty feeling, but happens. I thought, you know, I know they were up 2-1 after the first, but I thought our first period was pretty good. Um, had a lot of grays. Uh, and then we lost it. Um, kind of got away from getting pucks behind him, getting on our for check and uh, you know, and then we came out the third, we were chasing the game. So, you know, it’s tough to do that being down three. Um, just got to regroup, you know, find ways to be more consistent, uh, to be harder on the puck and, um, you know, come out ready for the next one. You talk about third period. Is it frustrating that you couldn’t generate a little bit more of a push against a team that played last night? Yeah, I mean, you know, like I said, we we’re chasing it, you know, down three. It’s, you know, it’s I don’t know. I have to look at him, you know, in more detail, but uh you always want to generate more. Uh but uh yeah, second and third not not our best hockey and uh we have to look at it and we have to get better. Why so hard to run at home? Honestly, I’ve never thought of it like that. Um, you know, home or on the road, we got to we got to have the same focus each game. Does it surprise you the second third period because the team had seemed to be trending the right way? You know, you played a good game against Dallas and the road trip was what it was, but you still went one and one and had a couple decent home games before that. Were you surprised it kind of went backwards? Uh I yeah like you take a look at that Dallas game. I thought it was one of our better team games of the year. Uh you know thought we deserved more and then we came out tonight. Uh you know I thought we came out with the right mindset. I thought we came out strong and then for whatever reason we just lost it. And we have to we have to address that. You know figure out why and figure out ways to be more consistent and and bring you know our best game you know each and every night. Uh and that’s part of you know growing as a group and uh becoming a better team. Where does the group go from here now that you guys are past this quarter mark of the season to the next game? You know, focus on the next game. You know, it’s uh you’re always you’re coming in the rink every day looking to get better and we’ll keep doing that. Uh we’ll take a look at some different things uh through video and whatnot, but uh yeah, I thought we played really well in the first period. Um one of the better better periods we had. Um, all in all, not a not a bad game from our team. Just too bad we couldn’t couldn’t get uh two points. One goes in off skate. A couple of tips. They seem to make their breaks tonight. Just one of those nights. Okay. Yeah, I guess. Um, but it’s that’s in hockey, you know. I’m not going to hide behind some bounces here. Um, so uh just get up, got to learn, and move forward. surprised that maybe it didn’t have a bigger push on I guess a team playing back to back that maybe you should have had the the edge against the team that played last night. Yeah, maybe maybe we can can look at that, but um yeah, I don’t have the answers right now. Why do you think it’s been so hard for this team to get wins on home ice this year? Yeah, I don’t have the answer for that. Uh, I think we got to got to dig in and and learn and I’ll make sure we uh play as good as we can and I’m sure the results will follow. Adam, we just talked to some of the guys in the room. They talked about liking your start, liking your first period and, you know, things kind of got away from you in the second. Where did you see things sort of go wrong in the middle of the game tonight? Well, we we we did have a good start. You guys saw it. Um, you know, we could have capitalized on a couple more chances. They capitalize on theirs at our net. They got pucks to the net and they beat us to some rebounds and uh you know that’s their game. They’re going to throw pucks when they can down and try to beat you to that area, the blue paint and they got a couple on us. You made some tweaks to your lines going into the third period, moved Drew O’ Connor up. What were you looking for there? What did you see from some of those tweaks? Well, I just thought I thought, you know, Pety’s lines been good, but I thought today they just didn’t have a lot of zip. I thought, you know, Drew holding pucks and going, I thought maybe give him a little bit more. Um, one of the things that we saw in this game was a lot of shots where there were screens in front and it felt like the shots were coming high, but your players were aiming to tip them down. Is that by design or how do you get those tips to actually hit the net because quite a few uh were tipped wide? Well, I mean, that’s that’s an art and a gift. I mean, those guys are usually pretty good hand eye and sometimes they’re tipping them in and down and sometimes they’re not. But, I mean, in the first period, we had we had a lot of great A’s, like a lot of really good looks. Um, and it just didn’t go in. So, uh, I didn’t look at the shots. I I’ll go look at that to see what that was about, but um, you know, we could get pucks delivered more to the net for the second and third rebound chance. I’d like to see more of that rather than high shots, but, uh, we’ve been talk discussing that. it’ll keep pucks alive and let those those forwards go into the net jam at it and do their thing. And in the defensive zone, it felt like there was quite a lot of chasing. Um, was that just players getting a little bit anxious uh in the game or what what can you contribute to kind of that chasing that we saw both from the defense and the forwards in the defensive zone? Well, they didn’t chase anyone in the first cuz really wasn’t in there in the first. I mean, the the second period they had three power plays. Um, you know, we had a young group get out caught out there where, you know, about three times I think what you’re probably talking about is there was we weren’t quick the pucks when our when our center was not in the zone first. I felt like the next forward the first forward is supposed to be the low forward. I felt like there’s a few times where, you know, even on two goals where there wasn’t good communication with that. So then it allows separation, maybe a little bit of a chase, but it did happen a few times, but not a lot. Um, you know, they they they didn’t get a lot, but they they got some chances they scored on and and and we didn’t score on ours. Um, last week in Tampa, you were able to take advantage in the third period of a team that was on a backto-back. Um, were you disappointed that you weren’t able to get the same kind of third period tonight? Well, when you’re down by that much, it’s hard in this league to come back. And we had the we had we tried. I mean, uh I wouldn’t say I was disappointed. I was probably didn’t wasn’t too happy with where we were going in the third. I don’t think it had to happen like that. Again, we’ve been really good first. We got to get a couple more dirty goals, get some past some of these goalenders, and maybe it’ll be a different situation going into the third.

  1. Dead last in Corsi, Dead last in Penalty Killing, Second last in goals against. The gross overpay for a career backup in Lankinen and another 5.5 for glass man Demko means that we have 10 mil in 2 goalies that cannot effectively tend goal at the nhl level. Last year Lankinen had a good 8 wks and they gave him a 4 year deal at 4.5m per when he was a walk on with no Market competition for him at all. Then there's the first rounder to Pitt for Marcus Petterson who they promptly gave 6m per season to. What's he good for? Pitt was trash the entire time he was there, he's 6 foot 3, 176 pounds, lighter than Hughes, he can't hit, he can't move bodies in front of the net, he's an anorexic dollar store Marek Malik. 5m per for Evander 2 stupid penalties per game Kane, Trade JT for a Center who had 4 concussions at the time, he has 6 now, and will likely retire. Total dereliction of duty by the management in all these transactions.. and then Hiring Foote, because he's good vibes and Quinn liked him as the D coach for 2 years. He's incompetent, 98 iq devoid of any tactical nous or strategy, nose looks like a Foot, just a bewildered look on his face at all times. Vancouver Canucks… curing happiness since 1970 folks. Vote with your wallet, boycot this anti entertainment.

  2. I think trading him to another stacked team will get something valuable in return while helps to tank faster for a rebuild, or get the team literally structured in a different way. That's just my opinion of the likely most ideal move that isn't just getting stuck forever as a below playoff team.

  3. Blow it up, best draft class in years. Build a team for a cup not 8th in to the playoffs. Thanks Quinn for your efforts. EP should give a refund. Quit taking all the old players no one else wants. Been a fan from day one, Would like one cup before I leave this earth.

  4. Hughes got his bags packed and heading out of Vancouver on that highway called ''Mark Messier way''. Let dude go to a team where he has a fn chance and isn't wasting away his prime ,dude looks so done with this bs!

  5. EP40 and Hughes played like normal while certain players like MYERS, Sherwood, Garland etc played so poorly.
The issue is when trading them they will get so peeved off and start playing better.
