Wally Returns! 🛬 David Pagnotta joins the show, who are the Sens targeting? Kyrou, Jenner, Stamkos?

Time now for coming in hot with Brent Wallace, former Ottawa Senator Jason York and Graham Nichols. I’m back, baby. Welcome to Coming in Hot. Brent Wallace alongside Jason York. Your Graham is off today. Uh, nice to see you, Yorkie from uh, God. Are you in Vancouver, Calgary? Where are you today? I am in Vancouver at the uh, Joseph Hotel. Nice little Marriott brand, Wall-E. They’ve kind of Yeah, it’s kind of like their, what do they call it? Their uh, autograph collection. Very nice. Very nice. You can actually get a real oldfashioned in Vancouver. They sell bourbon here. I by the way just as I went on a little trip I had two old fashions in honor of you as I sat in uh Budapest, Hungary and I cheers to you and Graham drinking an old fashion. So your spy your your spy mission is over. You’re allowed to release the files of where you were. Uh just took a little trip. So I can’t believe we’re into this. Lisa wanted to do European Christmas markets for years. I think I may have had a little too much wine one night and agreed to it and then we we went to Vienna and Budapest, Hungary. Yes. Okay. But it was a big secret because I I brought it up on the show. Don’t tell anybody. My house is going to get robbed. There’s people There’s no neighbors. I’m like, what are they gonna steal? Gertie’s mats. Are they going to take the the No, no, Yorkie. My children stay in my house when I’m gone. I don’t want Oh, the kids are there. This was just a ro. This was just a romantic vacation for the wals. It was a vacation. No, just stop at full stop. No romance whatsoever. It was just a vacation. Yeah, great. It was, you know what? Fantastic trip. 10 out of 10 because I had an itinerary. Of course you did. So there had to be like was there a was there a theme like was was this like an anniversary? Was there no no just at Christmas markets? What prompted this sudden this sudden bit of uh this verge of romance? No no you I tell it’s just a trip. Um it she’s asked to go to she’s wanted to do European Christmas markets for years. Uh and the sends just happened to be on the road which made it good timing. Gotcha. Gotcha. That’s it. There’s no uh there was no nothing. No, no, no. No uh no Wall-E thinking I’m going to rekindle the Roman. You know, been married for a while, spark things up. Christmas markets, hot European wine turns into maybe Oh my god. Mold wine or Yeah. Uh is it good? Is it good? No. Her I poured it out. It’s terrible. It’s terrible. It’s so everybody so like everybody it’s it’s like I don’t want to call it a delicacy. It’s a specialty of the markets. Like in fact every market has a different mug. Like you buy the mug or you can rent it. If you return it they give you back your deposit. But it costs like 50 bucks for two glasses of mold wine. You can do red or white. But it’s really cinnamony and it’s uh it’s like a it’s just hot wine. I just I hated it. Hated it. Well, you said the you said the magic word. You said mug. You should have brought you’re coming in hot mug and went around to the Christmas markets and said bo wine please fill up my mug. So yeah, they don’t it has to be that mug uh in order to and so each market you can so you can collect them if you want but like I don’t want to spend 50 bucks to buy a glass of wine I poured out. So, uh, they’re I just saw this year though, they have them at the, uh, the the Civic Center, the TD the Landown Park Christmas market has mugs this year. What’s that? What’s that old uh that old is that Oliver Twist when he goes up? It’s not wine, but he’s like, “More more stew, please.” Or what is it? What’s that old thing? I could picture you up there. More wine, please. Filled by mold wine is not uh it’s not the answer for me. Lots of people enjoy it. No, I’m going to be doing the same thing in about uh gez when I get back from this 8 day trip I’m on. I we’ve got basically we’re doing our show at Orleans and then the next morning I’m taking off I’m taking off for mold wine in Sweden for uh eight days of wine and Christmas markets and all that good stuff. Like I I heard some nonsensical thing like three million people visit visit Vienna to go to the Christmas markets. Really? It’s like uh Jake, throw up the photo. Like Vienna is stunning. It’s a stunning city to begin with. I think you’ve been there, but this thing is one of their biggest Christmas markets and it is jammed of people. That’s City Hall. I’ve never been to Vieira. I’ve never been. Right. But uh might have to put that on the list perhaps. Wally 100 like a I was lucky enough to do the world championships there in uh oh Canada had a a training camp there I should say 2019. So just roll through those Jake for a sec. Um there’s a Christmas market at this this is this guy uh Belvadier used to be the head of the military uh for Austria. This is his this is the top part. He has another thing like this at the bottom of the garden. Um, and there’s a market in front. You can see all the little lights. It’s a market there. Like I think we did 11 markets. That’s like 11 11 Christmas markets. So like what do you do at a Christmas market? You just walk around, drink the hot wine. Yeah. You buy stuff. Too expensive. You said too expensive, you said. So stupid prices, but you still buy. You try to taste some of the delicacies. Uh oh, Lisa must have picked these. Um the uh there’s Yeah, there’s you can buy jewelry and all your little Christmas ornaments and stuff, but it’s it’s whatever. Oh, uh we went to see a Mozart show and they’re all dressed up in their period costumes. I’m a like Yorkie. I am very cultured now. Mold wine period costumes. Did you uh went to Oh, that’s the that’s the Vienna Opera House. Like everybody, every every country’s got something when you’re there. You got to buy like Canada where like maple syrup, beaver tails. Um you got the countries where you get the the people where you get the little uh the people that you there’s one person that’s a bigger person that’s a bigger person. You put them nesting dolls. Nesting dolls. I got I got S’s nesting dolls. Yes, nesting dolls. What uh what country is I think that’s a Russian thing, isn’t it? That’s a Russian. Yeah, they’re used they’re called Russian nesting dolls. That’s Budapest, by the way. That’s Budapest. So, what’s what’s Vienna? Like, what is it? No. What? Like, what do you mean what is it? They It’s just a beautiful place. Well, no, but there’s got to be something uh native to the country that you buy because you’re in Vienna. Schnitle. Schnitle. That’s it. I thought that’s a German thing. So, this is the bar I went to. This is where we had our drink for you. This thing was in Budapest. It was amazing. Okay, now we’re talking. Now we’re talking. Yeah. So, um, great time. Okay. Um, hey, speaking of, uh, speaking of old fashions, this has become a thing. Every time now Laurel and I go out for dinner, I run into somebody that likes the show and they buy me an old fashion. This This Yeah, I gotta get the picture up. I’ll uh I’ll get it up in a sec. But uh this was I went Thursday night to Oyster Night at the Elmdale Tavern and uh Oh, I saw that. I I got bought an old fashion. I said I love the show. Here’s an old fashion. Uh we’ll see if I can get the picture up later because it’s it’s a great pick. Uh they got great live music there on Thursday nights. Uh but yeah, no, it’s become a thing. For some reason, people like buying me old fashions. I need to get out more because I No one’s bought me one. So, uh well, that’s not true. Michael May not bought us one at uh the last time we were at Shoulless Jos which will be back at December 2nd. Um uh Joe Kernan who asked if I traveled the Alps at all. No, not this trip. Uh but just did Vienna and just did uh Budapest. Anyway, great trip. 10 out of 10. If you want to go Christmas markets, they are some of the best in the world. Uh this show is always brought to you by 365 Yorkie. We got lots to discuss. David Padnata is going to join us around 10:20. We’re going to chat some Sen rumors that’s going on. Uh, and if Steve Stals can pull off a big deal, we’ll find out. But the Suns, like me, I’m back. The Suns are back in action. Uh, they were at the the Monday nighter game. It was it No, Sunday night game. I don’t even know what day it is. Uh, they were at the Rams game last night. Tonight, they returned to face the LA Kings to make it Can they make it 3 and 0 on this road trip? Why not? Why not? Why not? Why not? Oh, by the way, that was uh I wanted to give him a shout out because he brought me the old version was Joseph. Thank you. Thank you, Joseph. But yes, to answer your question, Joseph Hotel now. It’s everything’s Yeah, it’s everything’s coming up. Joseph, I the way Ottawa’s playing right now, and I and I uh I actually was able to to watch the game on the plane because it’s like a five five and a half hour flight out here to Vancouver. The way Ottawa is playing right now, they’re back to the way they were playing last year when they’re not giving up a lot. They’re getting really good goalending. Uh Timmy Stutzo is playing some of the best hockey I’ve I’ve I’ve I’ve seen him ever play. Like, he’s just playing. We talked about this last week. He is playing now like he’s he knows exactly what he is as a player. Like he’s still seeing that high-end skill, but the defensive side of the puck, the way he’s playing. And I don’t know if you caught his um his postgame interview. They asked him about the game, and this is when you know a player is figuring out what it takes to win in the league. He talked about Clo Jaru. um winning faceoffs at the end. He goes, “One of the big reasons we won, didn’t talk about goals, didn’t talk about,” he goes, “the defensive zone faceoffs.” And Jaru stayed on for I think he was on for two and a half minutes, ended the game. He won about four or five key draws and they threw Larazeller. He mentioned Eller as well for the backhand side. He won a couple key draws, but it was amazing to watch Ottawa shut that game down because Anaheim’s a really good team right now. They got a lot of offense, but in especially the faceoff dot and Ottawa the best faceoff team in the league right now, that was really on full display. But I was just impressed of how they they played a composed and I won’t use I won’t steal their word that I think all used likes to use this word, we played a mature game. I’m not sure what that means, but I thought they played a very composed game. Like there’s no panic. There’s no panic in their game. So they’re they’re in a really good place right now. the way they’re playing, uh, the way the the lines are clicking. Um, it’s just, uh, it’s impressive what they’re doing right now. I guess impressive is the word I’m going to use, which is fair. And I looked up, uh, just so we don’t we don’t know if Thomas Shabbat, who didn’t play at the end of that game, is going to be in for today’s game like uh, and also they haven’t sent back Steven Holidayiday yet. My boys, I missed his G. Well, I watched it after I got um Stephen, they haven’t mentioned Stephen Holiday going back yet, so I’m wondering if he’s still in and Ridley Greg is still out and Lars are still in that line. I don’t know lines yet because they won’t be on the ice for about three hours if my math is correct. Um but like I took a look Yorkie, we talk about the last few games in the last So they’ve only played 21. This is game 22 tonight. in the last 15 games. They’re one of the best teams in the National Hockey League. Like, yeah, I think you have the stats somewhere. Um, they are second overall in points percentage over since October 21st. 92 and four. First in face off, first in shots against. They don’t they just don’t give you anything. Uh, fifth and even strength goals against. It’s just a really good team play. Like defensively, they play really good hockey. remember all this nonsense about uh what were you there? The start wasn’t the best of starts. You had that you had that silly panic button on. You’re like, “I’m opening it up. I’m pressing it.” I’m like, “Relax, relax.” I go, “They’re just hovering around 500. They’ll figure it out.” Like, all Mark’s not going to continue to play the way he is. He’s a good goalie. Don’t worry. Like, they’ve got good players here, but like Brady and Chuck’s not playing. Who’s going to take a spot? I’m like, don’t worry about it. uh Yorkie, they went two 4-1, which and it didn’t look like the team that we saw leave the ice last year. That was the problem. They just didn’t there was something missing. They weren’t connected, as they like to say. Uh and the hallmark of this team was defensive game was its defensive game and its pressure on the puck. It just wasn’t there. They were just sloppy. That’s all. Connected. What does that mean anyhow? They’re connected. Like, did they connecting the dots on the room or something? Like, explain that one to me. connected means they are all around the puck at the same like Dave Cameron used to use it uh five guys in all the zones at the same time like it’s just every guy’s back playing where they should be which is on the right side of the buck for the most part I know I just wanted to I just wanted I just wanted to hear you give the definition of connected what what does connect what does connected mean to you say it in a sentence please can you use that in a sentence I feel like we’re not very connected together well I know for one thing the wallet houses are connected. No, they just went on a they just went on a very romantic trip up to Vienna Christmas markets hot wine mugs. Did you do they give you like a fancy mug when you have that hot wine or is it just like some cheap little glass like do you get like a a keepsake or something? Yeah. And so each market has its own printed whatever on it. So it could be like the picture of the market or whatever. I think the one in Budapest is uh it says love is in the fair. Lisa thought it said love is in the air and so she’s like look and I’m like that says love is in the fair Lisa. All right. All right. Now important. Was this a very important question Wall-Ally? Was there some handholding as you strolled through the market? Oh no no. There’ll be none of that. None of that. Lisa goes to hold the hand like Ah, get that away from me. We walked uh about 75 kilometers. So, I don’t I don’t have time for You got No, too many people. I could just picture it. Come on, Brett. Let’s Let’s stop here. No, no. We’ve got to get to this place right here. Itinerary says we’re going to this Vienna. There’s a Christmas market up here. You got the glasses on. You’ve got the fanny pack on. You’ve got everything all organized. Please tell me you don’t have a fanny pack. I I It’s a European manb bag. No, I don’t have one. You got the map. You’ve got the map. And you are you still use Are you still using a map, by the way, of the city? You pull out your map. You’re like, “Okay, right here. We’re going to do this one here at 12:00, then over here at 12:30.” And no, but I Poor Lisa is just trying to hold your hand. Lisa, let’s be serious here. We got to get to point B. Um I I uh No. Listen, you if you have to have an itinerary or you don’t end up seeing what you need to see on the trip. So, you got to get from point A to point We walked forever. So, but I wish I wish I wish we could have had like a like a Wall-E cam. So, just just just put just put a a spy cam on Lisa’s shoulder or something just to see just to see the chaos that’s going on. There was one one moment of saltiness. Just just one. I Yeah, I was very patient. Um because I knew about the importance of the trip, so I was very good. However, on the last day, uh we like to bring our kids back a gift. And I’m always like, just get it the first time you see it. Don’t this nonsense of wait. So on the Saturday night, and it’s our last night or whatever and it’s getting it’s cold. This is the first night it’s been really cold and windy and she can’t find the market that she needs for this gift for my daughter. And so we’re going I think we went to like five markets before we found this gift again. I was like, Lisa, just buy it the first time. Okay. Just just get the just get the gift. I just I just want to sit and have a beer. Can we just get this gift? Hey, how’s how’s the beer over there, by the way? It’s in Vienna. Must be great. Oh, well, Steagle. Is that the home of Steagall? It’s not the home, but it’s it’s very prevalent. Very, very prevalent. I love a nice Steagle, Wall-E. Yeah, there’s there was one that we had I think was local, although I’m not. So, when I was at the I know we’re way off topic. I apologize, people. Uh is I thought we were talking about the sense while we were having a nice conversation. You sidetracked this with connected. Um, I took Lisa one the first night to uh I remember we went uh to this snitch it’s a snitle place but they dress it’s a it’s like a 110 year old restaurant. They still dress in like leader hosen and all that stuff. So did you put the did you did you did you put the costume on the Chvy Chase hat on in European vacation with the hat and the shorts and the suspenders? There was no leader hosen for me. Um God I hang on no Jenny this is not super fun. Um, all right. Let’s Yorkie, can you just uh You know what? We’re gonna do uh Sholess Jo. Yeah, let’s do some reads. And then we’re going to get to uh David as he’s waiting and I He’s busy and doesn’t want to listen to our nonsense about European Christmas vacations. We’ll see if David’s We’ll see if David’s ever put on some leader holes. He might. Oh, I hope he Okay, we’ll move on. uh sholess shows uh daily deals uh that you don’t want to miss. Burgers, wings, cold beer, great prices, no fluff, just big flavor, five nights a week. Uh tonight, by the way, fish and chips, as we call it, the maritime special. Uh wings on Tuesday, $10 bring your appetite, crispy and saucy, big burger energy Wednesday. Thursday night’s halfp price wine and $10 flatbreads. Caesars on Sunday, game day bud deals on your Canadian team is on the screen. $9 buds all game long. All right, let’s welcome into the show, our good friend, uh, David Panata, who’s in Montreal today, I believe. Uh, nice to see you, sir. I I don’t know what I don’t know what you’ve heard of the show. It’s a little sidetracked today. Have you ever worn Leader Hosen? No. No, I have not. Can you Can you picture Wall-E in the old outfit, the Chvy Chase? All I could see is European vacation when they’re sitting there having the beers and the the German guy punches and Wally gets into a big scrap and over in Germany, Vienna, wherever. That’s what I see. That would be I mean I I the visual now is going to be burned and and I I really can’t thank you guys enough for that. Um but you’ll have a good time. I’m sure so we’re just going to move on. Nice to see you, sir. Um you too. We’ll just get right to the trade talk. Uh, I need to know is Ottawa, it’s rumored that Steve Stoss is looking to make a big splash. Is it even possible to make anything happen? We We all know about the first round pick. Uh, we all know that there’s probably not a lot in the miners right now that they can swing for the fences with. So, can they even make something happen? Well, what are you hearing? It’s all Yeah, it’s all situational. Um, would he like to? Yes. Has he made it known that if there’s, you know, a big fish, top six kind of guy that that he can go after? It it seems like it. That that seems to be the word. But, um, does that mean they’re necessarily going to try to pounce on something now? Uh, they’d like to, I’m sure, but the market just doesn’t dictate that that’s realistic at at the moment. Um, I think from Ottawa’s perspective, look, they like their group. Lenus is playing better. Teams obviously doing a lot better. one regulation loss in their last seven. So things are starting to roll for this club and Brady’s presumably back at least on the ice later this week. Um so those are all good and you don’t want to mess too much with what’s going on in the mojo that you’ve built, you know, for the time being. But if something pops up, he’s going to be part of the part of the discussion. There are a few teams that seem to have made it known that, you know, if players X, Y, and Z, big name, big type of players X, Y, and Z are available, give us a call. We want to re-engage in those conversations. I think Montreal’s in that mix. I throw Utah in there as well. Um, there’s a few others. Seattle to a certain extent also that are kind of just lurking and when they can pounce, then then they’d like to. So yes, the sends want to add and they want an ad in an impactful way, but it doesn’t necessarily mean this is something that’s going to happen now, January, before the trade deadline. This could be something that happens in the offseason, but a lot of teams start to make their work now, lay a little bit of groundwork, it gets out, we hear about it, we talk about it, we get excited, and then we get, you know, kind of ticked off or at least fan base gets pissed off because something doesn’t happen right away. But it, you know, it doesn’t mean they’re not working. I need something to happen. Um, the are the standings a problem with every team Yeah. seemingly in it for the most part, right? Like, by the way, we’ll just take a moment to say that Toronto Maple Leafs sit last in the Eastern Conference. Um, is it because of Let me add to that, by the way, they looked awful. Absolutely awful on Saturday. I was there. That was It did. I like You look at them. I know. Does Mariner make that much of a difference with this team? Like, I’m trying to figure out why they’re so bad. It’s a combination of they they lost their main facilitator and no one’s taken the reigns yet. Now they’re they’re beat up and and N is out and and Matthews is out and other guys are out too. Uh Jake McCabe couldn’t finish the game. Looks like he might miss some time as well. Um so they’re beat up and that’s definitely a factor. You don’t want injuries to be an excuse, but that’s just the reality of their situation. But even when healthy, they don’t have that premier passer, playmaker, facilitator that can help drive a play. Austin’s going to finish. He’s tried to in a couple occasions. Looked like he’s like, okay, he’s embracing this role. Didn’t happen. Knander embraces it when he wants to embrace it, and he’s good at it when he does it, but that’s not his his main game. So, they don’t have that piece. They don’t have a puck mover from the back end. And all the physical guys that they brought in aren’t physical, so they have no goalending. And well, you know what, Joseph Wall, honestly, he was their best player on Saturday and he let up four goals. And I say that facitiously. They just haven’t looked good in any aspect for the most part. No, they haven’t. And there were there were points of that game on Saturday where I’m going, “All right, they’re down two nothing.” Dakota Joshua who’s a big body presence or supposed to be started like messing around with a couple of the habs and then Arbor Jackkey got in the mix and he kind of turtled and then went away. You didn’t see him the rest of the game and Sammy Blade was playing. Anyway, all their tough guys aren’t tough and for a coach like Craig Bub that’s got to be infuriating. I can only imagine that like and then how many times can you drop an F-bomb in in the you know in the intermission and try to galvanize these guys and then they still don’t do it. It’s it’s it’s got to be very frustrating right now for those guys or fun to watch if you happen to be on if you don’t like them. Yeah, that’s right. It’s very good. Uh all right, let’s go back to Ottawa for a sec. Um, all right. So, let’s say hypothetically they do make like are you hearing anybody out there? I know I think you mentioned Boon Jenner. Is Boon like is that a fit for Ottawa? I’m not even sure if it’s the right fit. Well, and and that’s not that’s not the the the big game hunting type of player that they would ideally perfect world like to add. Yeah, he’s a complimentary piece for a cup contender and with his cap hit plus what he brings to the table, a guy who’s not afraid to be physical, provides a little jam, there are contenders that would love to get their hands on this guy later if Columbus decides they’re they’re going to move him. Um, those caliber players are the complimentary pieces that Cup contenders look for. Um, I I think like right now you’ve got you’ve got Nashville and you’ve got St. Louis that are open for business. Now, what that means to them may defer to everyone else cuz open to business means seems to mean we we want to sell and we want to make moves. Now, they’re being a little bit strategic about it, which is for our purposes annoying. Um, but for them, they’re being they’re being smart about it. They don’t want to rush in. But those are the two teams right now that seem to be the clear-cut sellers. Calgary last week started to tell everyone, “We’re going to continue to listen, but we kind of want to pump the brakes on things because we’re not sure exactly where we are now.” They’ve won three in a row. The sky isn’t fully falling in in Calgary for the time being. I don’t see them fully climbing out of the hole that they’re in, but good for them for now. Um, Vancouver’s dipping. Uh, yeah, the Leafs are trying to figure themselves out. Buffalo is on a bit of a an incline, but again, some of these teams need to be need to have a realistic understanding of what their approach is the rest of the season. Uh same with the Rangers. So, you’ve got two teams right now, like San Jose, for example, and this doesn’t fit the the big fish, but I’m just using it as an example. They’re still going through their rebuild process. Yes, they’ve had a better thanex expected type season. Yeah, Celerrini has been awesome. Smith and some of the other young kids are really starting to come into their own, but they’ve got pieces on the back end, especially pending UFAS that they’re still willing to move for the right price. Whether it’s Clingberg or Ferrero or or LGR, etc. They’ve got those pieces. They’ve got five pending UFAs on the blue line and a few guys up front. So, they’re going to go through their their season while still willing to listen and still sell off some pieces. But outside of that, you’ve got Nashville, you’ve got St. Louis. Kyu is a nice name. M and a player that yes, he has a full no trade. I think he’s willing to consider a multitude of options in terms of waving it. He heard the stories two summers ago. He heard him last summer, the the trade speculation. He was almost dealt to a couple teams. The Habs were hot for him. Seattle was hot for him. I know Ottawa at some point poked around. Few other teams did. But that’s the kind of player that I think the sends want to pounce on if they can. Young, controllable, and fits fits within a top six and a change of scenery even though he’s doing decently. Would would do him justice, I think. Are they shopping uh any names of the Ottawa Senators? Is Fabian Zetterland looking? I’m just curious if he’s a name that’s been mentioned. I I I haven’t heard him specifically, although it wouldn’t surprise me. Um I know the contract situation, those discussions weren’t the greatest when they happened. Um and that was part of the It should be they gave him way too much money anyway. Sorry. Go ahead. Well, he he won out on that one. Um but that was one of the reasons why San Jose was willing to move him because they knew that what the demand was and they weren’t prepared to do that. you get something in in Ottawa. And like that’s a piece that wouldn’t surprise me because again like they’ve got just over three million in cap space. If you’re going after a big fish, presumably they’re going to be making a lot of money and you’re going to have to move some bodies out at least one in order to help offset some of the dollars. So a guy like Zetterland wouldn’t surprise me. Then you slot maybe G down or or however you do it um to to stabilize your top six even further even with Brady coming in and so on. So, um I think they’re again they’re they’re they’re looking at everything here, but that’s the caliber of player that they’d like to bring in. Mid20s, controllable, can fit into a top six and maybe needs that change of change of scenery type situation. All right, last question before we let you go because I know you’re busy is um what are what’s because I know you’re travel you travel constantly. Uh uh what do you hear about Ottawa in the outside world of what the people think of this hockey team? Pesky. Not pesky. Sorry. Annoying. Um we’ll take pesky. Yeah. But the good kind of annoying, right? Like um from an opposition perspective, you don’t want to face an annoying or pesky team. um because they they can it it’s not like they’re taking them for for for granted by any stretch, but they have different ways of of coming at you that you may not necessarily expect right out of the gate. Um and I think with another like and this is this is this run obviously is without the captain. So you add Brady Kachchuck back into the mix and they’re that much more annoying. Um you want to be annoying when you’re facing other clubs out there. you don’t want to face the annoying team. So, um that that that seems to be the the at least what’s directed at me, the word of the day for them or the word of the week, whatever. Um but take that in a good way because teams are kind of annoyed, especially lately with how they’re performing, what how they’re playing against others. And if they do add, they’re going to be that much more of a of a pain in the you know what for other teams. Yeah. Yeah. They give up nothing. It’s wild to watch. Uh thank you. I appreciate your time. I know you’re busy. Uh, always nice to see you. Always great to see you guys. I’ll get you some liter hosen for Christmas. No, you can thank me later. Beverages. You don’t say anything right now. It’s good. I know you will. See you, pal. Appreciate it. See you, Dave. David Padana uh from uh the fourth period. He also does some stuff with the the nation network as you can see him on uh with Jeff Merrick on the sheet. Lots of stuff going on. He’s also on Daily Face Off. Anyway, nice to see him. Mhm. That would uh that Jordan Kyu who he mentioned, man, it would it would you would have to give up a fortune to pry him out of St. Louis. He’s a good player. Yeah. So, that’s it’s just what can they give up to get them? And that’s that’s just the issue. Anyway, if you um just just for fun like well like if you let’s just say you’re Ottawa and you wanted to bring Kyu in. Yeah. you you would just have to because you don’t you don’t really have the draft capital to do it. So you would change the makeup of your team just way too much like okay because see that and I don’t think people understand that enough like you just can’t make a trade just to make the trade because it’s that player is a good player. They have to fit. Yeah. And let and and and let’s let’s start with him like like what do you think you’d have to give up to a fourtime 30 goal scorer? Sorry. Three time 30 goal scorer, four time 20 goal scorer. Uh yeah, he’s a top six. He’s he’s a firstline player. Yeah. So they’re going to say, “Okay, yeah, we we would like uh we’d like Ridley Greg and we’d like we’d like Tyler Cleven and Chuck.” Yeah. Like you would have to give up multiple really good pieces and all of a sudden you look at your own team, you’re like they’re not very good anymore. And it’s it it would take more than that. It would take more than that. It would take they would say, “Oh, you want Kyro? Okay. Yeah, we want Pinto.” What? That’s right. Right. That’s why. And why wouldn’t you? Of course. You’re just not giving up. Anyway, we’ll see how that I I just don’t know how they And I’ve keep hearing about how Ottawa is looking to do something and I don’t know how they’re going to be able to do it. You’re going to have to I don’t know if Blake Montgomery is a big enough PE. I I don’t think so. Um I don’t know what they can do to make that happen. That’s all. Well, and is it is it help your team? Like are you trying to win the cup this and I please I understand you always want to win the cup, but if you give up pieces of your future to do it now and you it isn’t a home run, then you set your franchise back. Yeah, you you you do. and and the way if Ottawa continues to play the way they are right now, I I like I like those little tweaks like bringing in a guy that just fits a certain role. Like I still think they need a big defenseman that can play and doesn’t have to be a a top four guy, but just a guy that can skate and he’s big and he can box out because that’s one like when I watch Ottawa play, it’s it’s one concern of mine. I’d like their D a little bit bigger. A little bit bigger, but but not at the expense of a guy that not at the expense of a big guy that can’t play. And that’s really hard to find. Really hard to find. 100% agree with you. And I was thinking of this last night though and I we always watch our own team very intently and nitpick and pick apart stuff and say this has to change and that. But when you look at the numbers, Yorkie, of what they’ve been able to do and how they’re doing it, uh, outside of the penalty kill and perhaps team save percentage, this is a top 10 NHL team. Like nothing. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. Like I just I don’t know that they I don’t know. Would you like to see some add some pieces? Sure. But I don’t know right now that they need to do anything with this group except add Ridley Greg and Brady Kachchuck back into the lineup. Yeah, like that’s they’re they’re going to make a I say this all the time when when you have a key guy hurt like a Kachchuck. It’s you’re get you’re going to be making a ma a massive move very shortly within the next couple weeks. You’re going to bring in a top line left winger with a ton of jam Brady Kachchuck. So, that’s going to be real interesting to see when Brady comes in because the way when he left the team wasn’t playing great and and now they’ve they’ve figured things out and when Brady gets healthy, it’s going to be man, the timing couldn’t be better. Um, but yeah, it’s I it’s I’ve I’ve watched a lot of different teams play this year, Wally. And the one thing that the Senators have, and we said this last week, that is so hard to get in this league because you got to draft it because nobody’s trading trading you one is they have a superstar. Stolow the way he’s playing right now is playing like a superstar. I I love his game and I don’t throw that superstar term around there uh often, Wally, but that’s the way he’s playing right now. Like, he’s got the ability when he’s got the puck on his stick to take over games and he’s backing it up. He’s backing it up with solid defensive play as well. And those guys, you you you can’t trade for them. You can’t find them. Uh you got to draft him. And and the way he’s playing right now, boy, he’s uh he really he’s really fun to watch right now. 100%. the Suns 104 and four without Brady Kachchuck in the lineup. Um, quickly, let’s get to uh tonight’s game. Uh, just so we got to get through some stuff here. Uh, Jake, the show brought to you by Bet365. Uh, our proud presenting sponsor. Uh here is tonight’s game. Um by the way, Ottawa wins and a Detroit and a Tampa lost tonight and the Suns are sitting at first in the Atlantic division. Um that’s crazy. But they got they got to play an LA Kings team that’s not very fun to play against as we saw last week when they won one nothing. And Ottawa struggles against LA. Uh however, they’re 4-4 and three in their last 11 visits to LA. like they’ve only won five of 24 games I think overall in LA, but they had struggled early on. The Kings have 11 have gone 11 straight games with points against Ottawa. Um, one of the longest streaks currently in the NHL. Uh, the Kings are 80 and three in the last 11 against Ottawa. Uh, it is tough. However, LA struggling right now and they just had that really long road trip. They’ve had a couple days off, however, to come back, but they’ve got uh three of their last four games, they’ve only managed to score one goal. They just don’t score a lot. I don’t think this game is going to be very high scoring. So, uh in my parlay today, I have t I’ve done two uh because I liked just the odds with Drake Bathson scoring a goal, the money line on Ottawa to win, and the only thing I don’t like is the overunder at over five and a half goals. I don’t think they get there, but if they do, it’s a good payout. So, I took that one. But the other one um I went with the under if I’m not mistaken in this one. Tim Stutel get a point. Drake Btherson a shot on goal. Tim Stutzel a shot on goal. Jake Sanderson a block shot. Dylan Cousins one point and uh under five and a half goals. I think this is like a 3-2 game. That’s uh that’s tidy, Wally. That’s very This is one of your better bets. I know. It’s probably because I’m jet-lagged and I didn’t really think about it, but yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. You’re still on like a 6h hour. Yeah. So, what what time is it right now in uh your 6 hours? 4:39 p.m. Just finished our 42nd uh Christmas market. It’s just you’re just you’re like punch drunk from a Christmas market. Just like another one. Okay, let’s do it. Anyway, uh Jordan Spence returns to play his game. Maybe he has the same return as Fabian Zelden did in San Jose when he scored. Maybe Jordan Spence has a big game tonight. Yeah, what a shot that See, that’s what Oh, that’s what people were expecting when Zetterland came over. That that was a bomb just over the laser beam. Yeah, they need more of that out of Zerland’s boy. Can I That’s That’s what That’s That was the advertisement, wasn’t it, Wally? That was the uh You feel like you got uh you got jipped on the deal, didn’t you? It’s like, oh, that’s what I thought we were getting. That shot right there off the off the rush. That’s a hell of a shot. But, uh, hey, may maybe that’s what was needed, right? He’s going to get some confidence, get a little more swagger in his game. I I don’t think he’s a guy that’s short of confidence, but sometimes that’s all it takes, a little thing like that to to break out and maybe maybe the goals will start coming more often for him. I think so. And maybe there’s a comfort factor of being back out west for a little I know that sounds kind of stupid sometimes, but some guys some players just have a comfort factor when they play in buildings they’re used to. That’s all I got to say though, uh, Wall-E, uh, we haven’t even talked about this and we’re 41 minutes in. How about your boy How about your boy Holiday? Got a point. Yeah, he got But the point it wasn’t just like that was a that was a terrific play on that goal. Like that was a highly skilled pass getting in the zone, spinning around top of the top of the slot pass. I forget who he passed it to again was it was uh uh just a beautiful play. But you could you could see in his game the hands, the hockey sense I I think he’s this nothing nothing’s nothing is guaranteed, but I think he’s got a chance to be a pretty good player. I agree. And the fact that uh by the way Shane Pinto was the goal scorer. Uh yeah, Pinto. Yeah, the fact he was on the power play Mhm. on the road in his first NHL game like like there’s some trust factor there with Stephen. He’s a very good power play guy. Uh I think he’s a highly intelligent good hockey IQ guy. I like his game. So we’ll see what happens. He didn’t like I know he played 5 and a half minutes or something 540 or whatever against San Jose, but but he but he found a way he found a way to have a little bit of an impact in the game in those five minutes which which is that’s what you want. So uh I I like his game. So uh quickly here is Gertie’s pick by the way. Gertie four- one on the season if I’m not mistaken. Here’s her pick for tonight’s game. Okay, Gert, let’s go make the pick. Wow, that’s you’re going for a big win in Ottawa tonight. All right, with Ottawa. Anything else to say? It’s a very uh No, it’s a very loud eater. Wally, job is done. SMR or whatever it is. SM R. Yeah, that’s a She doesn’t mess around. No, no. Get in there and take care of business. She doesn’t need a leadup. She already has her picks. She’s picking Ottawa to win this game. So, we’ll see how this goes. Um, and we are possibly Oh, I meant to look it up. Um, Miko Ranton suspended. I don’t know if that carries. I don’t know the schedule if he if Ottawa misses him or not. Uh, he’s got one game they gave him because the the the play came because he had multiple reviewed offenses, misconducts. Yeah. Yeah. Um, so it was an automat. He might get more Wall-E. There’s a chance because that was that was given automatically. There’s still a chance to review it as well. So, man, that was a man I that was I watched that a bunch of times. We talked about it on the broadcast last night. U because it was Matt Cornado who we got in Calgary. I I wouldn’t be surprised if there was more games because it was a pretty it was a blatant from behind hit. So, I’ll we’ll see if more comes out, but it wouldn’t surprise me. I’m shocked that he didn’t get something out of the uh Islander hit. It was He got kind of tripped up uh with the Islander the other Islander defenseman’s stick. If you watch it a bunch of times, there’s a case to be made that Yeah, it was I didn’t like it either, but he kind of got put off balance. But this one, the one on Coronado, it was it’s it’s it’s right on the numbers. Like right on the numbers. And you should see Coronado’s face like poor guy’s nose stitches. Like he could have could have been one of those plays, Wally, when you go face first and you break the dreaded Can you say the word? That little bone underneath your cheek there. You know that little starts with an O. The It’s above Is it not above your cheek? It’s right here. It’s right there. Or the orbital bone. It’s a tough word to say. I bet you can’t I bet you can’t say it. Orbital bone. What is it? the orbital bone. I think I left out a I think I left out a letter when I said it. Yeah, it’s one of those It’s Oh, by the way, before we go, because I got to I got to jump on a plane. Uh Jake, you got to put this pick up because I This is great. I love when people around town come up and say hi and say they they like listening to the show. Look at that. No, it’s about Joseph. Here’s Joseph. Got me. He’s like he came over. Uh he’s sitting at the bar with his lovely girlfriend. Sent me over an in old fashion and there’s Joseph and I. He goes, “I know you like oldfashioned, Jerky. I love the show.” So, uh this one’s on me. Joseph, appreciate it. And I told you we were going to get you on the show. Thanks. Thanks for uh thanks for watching the uh the talk show. Uh and finally, Jake, I don’t know if you do you have the uh pick of the mugs. Oh, here’s the mug. I I don’t know people watching right now, but there’s a little there’s a little twinkle in your eye, Wall-E. It’s cold. It was just It’s a tear duct. I thinkable. There’s some romance in the air here. This is before we had a sip of the mold wine. Did you get Did you get visited from the Christmas spirits while you were in Indiana and they softened you up kind of like old Scrooge? Boy, I can’t wait to put the Christmas tree up now. Ours is up. Ours has been up now for a week. All right. Uh, safe travels. We’ll see you tomorrow, 9:00 a.m. All right. See you everybody. All right. See you everybody. Take care. Have a good night.
