HC Jonathan Gannon Postgame – 10.23.25 | Week 12 vs. Jaguars | Press Conference

Uh injury front, Will had a hip or an oblique, couldn’t return. Walter had a knee, couldn’t return. Um you know, a couple plays away from winning a game. Um love the fight. Love the resilience. Thought we did some good things. That’s a good football team. Give them credit. Ultimately didn’t do enough all three phases to win a game. Um but you know, there’s no silver lining in losing. Um, but this team will they’ll come back to work tomorrow and get ready to go and um we’ll learn from it and move on and get to Tampa. How did you feel how they about them about how they responded after last week’s game against Got a couple choices. I think we picked the right one. You know, they’re down. They wanted to win a game obviously. You know, just didn’t get it done. Can you take us through that last play? You got fourth and four. Any thought to try to draw him off sides? You had done that before instead of taking the deep pass? No. No. What were you trying to get done on that play? I assume that wasn’t the first read, the deep shot. Oh, yeah. They played double double. So, I threw it to the one-on-one. Love the decision. Go win the game. You talk about winning the takeaway battle. You guys did that four nothing. How come you don’t think you were able to turn those a lot of those turnovers into points? Oh, you you probably Yeah, I mean, we got a we got we had a couple times we’re in um point zone um and we got knocked out of being able to kick a field goal there. I think it happened twice. um you need those points, you know, so we got to firm up and make sure we’re putting them in the right spots and doing a better job put some points on the board and then, you know, hopefully you can win the game there. When you win the takeaway battle four nothing, you should have a really good chance of winning on the uh on the last play. I I know there was a single coverage deep, but why have that deep route rather than everyone? Coach, kind of going back to It’s a good point, Teao. um when you know they’re going to be in a certain coverage and I got to have it, you feel good about a one-on-one ball to win a game. Coach, why do you think you were able to generate as many turnovers as you did in this week? Uh I thought rushing coverage was good and some guys caught it. Guys made some really good plays. Um you know, Buddha, you know, that was a really good play. Akeem, I think Garrett was in the red zone. That was right out of half, I think. Um and then the one guy tipped up and Walt converted it. So that was it was good. On the final drive in regulation, I think uh Mike Wilson caught the ball and that clock was kind of ticking. Was there any thought to spiking the ball before running another play? Which one were we before the right before the football? Like six seconds, right? So at that point, we’re outside of the yard range where I feel comfortable like getting a play off to the end zone because you’re out of timeouts, so it can’t be inbound. So you take a one-on-one shot. Typically, we would do that with six seconds, but you’re cutting it tight. Um, if it was a little closer where the ball can get up and down a little bit quicker. Yes. At that point, I wanted to go to overtime. Question. What did you feel like the defense or sorry, what did you feel like the offense did not do well enough today? I, you know, it’s just negative plays to me. you know, whether it be a couple penalties, I think, um, you know, the sacks, runs, you know, it just we got to do a good job of making sure we have positive plays, staying on schedule. And like a couple top off, uh, on top of my head that come off is we’re, you know, at that range where we can kick a field goal and we get bounced out of field goal range and then it’s like, well, it’s fourth and long, you don’t feel good about going for it, so you got to punt, you know. So when you put together some drives like we did, um you got to come away with points, you know. You still feel good about the offensive play, Con? Yeah. I mean, we had a position to we were in position to win the game. Coach, what can you say about Michael Wilson’s kind of emergency last two weeks? What did he go for today? I don’t know. I thought he played his butt off. Yeah, he’s playing well. I mean, he’s he’s getting open. He’s catching it. Uh I thought he had a good run after catch, too, today. Um he battles, man. He battles. And um all those guys do, but he has definitely performed at a high level. Why did you uh take Max Melon out of the game? Um when he got hurt or he max he got went down. Got nicked in the game, right? I thought you took Max out for Clark. We’re rotating them. Do you know what exactly happened to Walter? You guys wanted to halftime. I I honestly don’t. Uh, I don’t know if it happened on a touchdown or what, but I just they came up and said he had a knee and he was done for the day. What uh what’s going wrong for the run game right now? Well, you got to you got to make sure you block people and move the line of scrimmage. Um, and you know, I think that we’re we’re doing a good job with getting on the right people. uh we got to move the line of scrimmage a little bit better and that takes all 11 the quarterback as well because he’s got to carry out fakes, things like that to hold defenders. You know, we’re out of the Reed run game right now, so you’re not plus one in the run game. Um but with saying that, and that’s a good front. Uh they were doing some things too to build a wall, plugging gaps, things like that. Um I think you know the negative yardage runs we for sure have to clean up. you got to get it back to line of scrimmage and then when we have chances to pop some runs um finishing blocks, staying on people, making sure our angles are right, we’d like to get a little more yardage there. Coach, you talk about the uh the belief that these guys are going to bounce back just as how they did this week with the amount of losses and the way that these losses have come. Why what is it about this group that allows them to keep getting up? We’ve got the right people in there, you know. Um they’re team over you, so they know what that means and they’ll come to work ready to go. You know, they there’s no quit in that group. There’s no lack of fight. There’s no pointing fingers. Um they’re they’re high football character guys that love to play football. When you have that, they’ll respond the right way. Um, what I told him in there is, you know, it comes down to a couple plays here or there like a lot of games have. Um, and we got to do more in the week and then more on game day. How do you think Jacobe did overall? I thought he played well. I thought he played well. I know he had to come out of the game and he went back in. But, uh, I think he’s he’s given us a chance to win. There’s no doubt. It worked out for you. You guys got the ball back, but can you take us through the decision? Fourth and 12, 207 left. It’s a good one, huh, Gambo? Yeah, you got little three timeouts and it’s if you can I always there’s a couple ways you can play it. You’re right. Um I always try to air on the side when you punt it there. If it if it’s not above the two minute, it starts to get a little dicey. Okay, even if you stop them, you have no timeouts and you got to go, you know, you’re probably backed up. Um you need to stop anyhow. So I in my mind it’s like that’s have an opportunity to keep the ball, go for it on fourth down. um get a stop and then know what you need and you’re not going to get bled out. Um so that’s probably not the right term in my mind. That’s how I think of it. I never want to end the game with the ball in their hand. I always want to have a chance with the ball in our hand. Um and there’s a couple different ways you can do that, which we’ve done multiple times throughout since we’ve been here. And it’s it’s it’s you know, you got to it’s not easy. It’s not easy, but I thought that was the right thing to do. Were you surprised on the fourth and one they didn’t kick a field goal to go up and make you have they play how they play it. They play how they play it. I mean, everybody’s a little different. You know, it was a big time stop to get us the ball back. Give us a chance. You know, it worked out there in our favor to get the ball back, but you know, um you you just know if they if they score, the game’s over. If you hold them to a field goal, you got a chance and you know that they can’t bleed you out. That was the reason for the decision. and you get another opportunity to try to convert it. Coach, this is Trey McBride’s 13th straight game with five receptions. How important has he been for your offense? You know, he made banged up a lot of the year, but he’s always been a consistent. Yeah, he battles, too, man. I mean, he’s a playmaker. He does what he’s coached to do and makes a lot of plays. You know, he’s a warrior, man. And um he’ll continue to do that. He’s I can’t say enough good things about him.

  1. Hey Michael, you’ve out done yourself again. This is worse than Kliff. Get rid of Gannon please, we’re already the laughing stock of the league….yet again

  2. Teams were 50-0 when they won the turnover battle 4-0… and yet this coaching staff will remain intact. 🙄 Gannon no longer deserves this job and Putzing NEVER did

  3. I honestly don't know what direction ownership should go in after the season. The division is super tough and it could be awhile before this team is competitive

  4. JG.,.,you guys never "learn from it", sick of you thinking fans are stupid, we see the results, we see the stupid calls, we see the mistakes, penalties, and panic calls at the end of the game, so odd that in your press conferences, you always think your OC called a good game. How can any of you still retain your jobs?

  5. You guys are the most embarrassing franchise in sports. Period.
Honestly at this point we should just get rid of the team or give it to someone who wants to win this is embarrassing

This is coming from a cardinals fan btw.

  6. Im a jags fan and yall will turn it around the jags where the worst in the league before doug it takes time mabey even 2 more coaches now we got the right guys liam and glad balls yall will be relevant soon yall already have the players

  7. Hey Cardinals fans. Time to boycott this team until some changes are made. Let's go watch the Suns and give them some love. They are playing great and are really fun to watch.

  8. No emotions. He looks like a robot on the sideline. Michael Bidwill needs to sell the franchise. The Bidwill family is a horrible steward of this franchise. The only NFL franchise with 800 regional season losses. 820 as of yesterday.

  9. Deja vu. Same result, same words, same reaction. At least be excited you’re setting records. 50-1…🤦‍♂️. The records set by this coaching staff and team are embarrassing.
