  1. I’m torn. I’m not sure a contested throw 20 yards downfield into double coverage to a 36 year old Kelce is what we should be doing. But then I can also say that Kelce had a step, and a perfect throw probably results in a big gain. Kelce had a step, but then, he’s also old and double covered. Not sure there is an easy choice here.

  2. I think this was a big part of the reasoning to his reaction to the end of the game. There we’re countless opportunities where he had recievers open and either didn’t see it or was going through his reads to fast. He def knows it. He has to let plays develop and find away to be more zen in the pocket. Easier said than done since he got so used to leaving pockets a lot.

  3. That maybe overall, but I think the defenders would close on Kelce pretty fast making that a pretty tough completion. 87 is not running by anybody anymore

  4. I think him not trusting the pocket is the much bigger issue. Been a problem ever since the TB SB frankly. He rushes through the progression and abandons the play design too early. In his defense, the pocket is sometimes total crap. But he’s still to quick to assume it’s broken down even when it hasn’t.

  5. Does he not trust his receivers or his protection? Most of the time when he has a bad game or stretch in a game it seems like he doesn’t trust his protection even in instances where he has a clean pocket. In yesterdays game vs. colts, it felt like he was rushing his reads and/or short circuiting before making all is reads which could go either way but seems more likely to be about trusting his protection most of the time. He seems to be willing to lob it up to any of his receivers when he thinks he has enough time.

  6. Pretty sure Mahomes guessed (correctly) that those guys would catch up before the ball got to Kelce, making it a tough catch even with a perfect throw. He’s failed on pulling the trigger on open guys a good amount lately, but I wouldn’t really call this a mistake.

Kelce is still great at a lot of things, but the vertical speed is mostly gone, and he needs about 2-3 more steps clearance for that to be open.

  7. He can’t throw deep and/or is terrified to…he either hesitates and checks down or overthrows by 5-10 yards

  8. It’s that and then running straight into collapsing pockets instead of giving the plays that extra time to develop. He definitely isn’t trusting himself or his receivers these days.

  9. He’s double covered and they were closing. Kelce is not outrunning those guys. It would have been an interception.

  10. When was this and what down was it? Already in field goal range, risky throw into double coverage vs. Check down to a receiver with open field and guaranteed 5-10 yards… seems like a good call to me. Unless this was a point in the game where you think they absolutely needed a big play?

  11. If it’s incomplete then everybody would criticize him for not taking what the defense was giving him and throwing to a wide open Hollywood.

  12. Romo said it, Pat’s going through his progressions too fast. gotta trust the oline and let the receivers do their thing.

  13. If you’re trying to tell me Mahomes doesn’t trust TRAVIS KELCE then you’re is not an opinion I put that much stock in

  14. I think he has trust in his receivers. Instead I think it’s a combination of him not trusting his arm and not trusting his blocking.

We’ve all seen mahome’s deep ball this year, it has t been good. Also, Romo kept mentioning how Mahomes was moving his eyes away from his reads too soon, right before they get open, that’s him having an internal clock that is going a bit too fast based on last years line play.

  15. I think it is kinda obvious that even tho Kelce had a step on the defender, the defender wasn’t far behind. Thats not an easy option, looks interceptsble. Kelce doesn’t necessarily have wheels

  16. His trust in his ball carchers has been shaken by tipped INTs and drops and his own overthrows. He’ll get it back.

  17. Guys, we don’t just need to regurgitate whatever Romo says on the broadcast. That’s the same thing the other fanbases do whenever Aikman starts implying the Chiefs get all the calls.

In an alternate universe where Mahomes tries the throw and it’s not complete, it would be the same people saying “why is Mahomes trying to go for it all to a 36 year old receiver when he had Hollywood for an easy 10 yards?”

This was a 10 yard gain on a drive that scored a TD. Mahomes made mistakes yesterday, but this play is fine

  18. I honestly think it’s possible he doesn’t trust himself right now?

Also, he needs to get out of his head and work with what he has. He has the receivers he has. It is what it is. He has won the Super Bowl with what most people would call a mediocre receiver group.

He has the o line he has. Even when they’re not doing their best, they’re better than they were last year and Pat is still playing worse.

Pat is playing scared and frazzled and he needs a sports psychologist, therapy, etc. Literally can’t stand to agree with Tony Romo, but he was going through his reads way too fast and he has to (re)learn the ability to calm that down. I believe in his ability to overcome it; he has all the talent and resources in the world.

  19. He made the correct pass here.  The throw to Kelce had a high degree of difficulty and he didn’t separate until late.

He made the easy throw and got yardage out of it.

  20. It’s really pretty simple. Pat just hasn’t been the Pat we all think he is for some time now. I’m not just talking about just this year. I’m talking about how we need MVPat back. That guy. The guy we don’t even bother comparing to current QBs. No we’re comparing him to Tom Brady. We need that QB back. It’s been a while.

Now is that still in him? Sure. Of course. But he’s not that guy right now. Lets hope he gets it back.

  21. Dudes got so much ptsd from super bowl ass whoopings they only had to rush 3 and he still ran out of clean pockets

  22. It’s the offensive line issues

He’s not trusting the protection to hold up so he’s determining the throw pre snap and trying to force it in there to rice mostly. He does this with Kelce too. Everyone else he will primarily ignore except when his first read isn’t there and he bails to play hero ball…

He basically is either playing rushed and forcing it into coverage or he’s playing hero ball when the first read isn’t immediately open and he’s running into pressure or throwing wildly in-accurate heaves 5 yards under or overthrown

It’s been bad for about 4 weeks.

Good news is with Simmons back it’s starting to get better. Bad news is now Caliendo is probably RG for a bit. Mahomes did start putting more trust in the pocket and going through his progressions in the 4th/ OT.. and coincidentally our offense immediately explodes

Our receivers have been getting open all year at all 3 levels of the defense. The timing has just been out of whack due to mahomes happy feet

He’ll figure it out like he has before, this offense is better when it’s more diverse in target share

  23. His touch passes have only been elite when throwing to the boundary on corner routes. He’s mostly been great with throwing darts over the middle.

I hate to agree with Romo, but they need to run more formations spreading the defense out horizontally before the snap. When they’re constantly running compression sets, the defense can run zones and cut off a lot of crossing patterns much easier. They also need to throw to the boundary more often, Worthy can build upon his great out routes with out-and-up, return, and out-post routes.

  24. I think it’s less about trusting his WR’s than it is trusting his arm. He misses pretty hard on a lot of deep shots and he mis-judges some intermediate throws at times. Remember that absolutely horrible pick he threw in the Raiders game where it looked like he just pulled the string on it and it fluttered? I think he’s missed on the deep throws and the tight-window ones just enough to give him some yips. Add to that the lack of patience he’s shown in the pocket this year, and here’s what you get.

  25. Romo said the same thing during the broadcast, but it’s absolutely incorrect. Kelce is not open there because the guy on him is a lot faster than he is and would have no trouble getting there and blocking the pass. To make this play the throw would have to be perfect which makes it pretty low percentage, and a poor choice when he has a dump that is good for an easy 5 yards.

  26. People forget that a qb is playing football behind what is a line of 9-10 of the 1% of the 1% of the largest motha fuckas in the world and they are not watching the TV broadcast from their couch. He’s peering through gaps in helmets and trying to judge relative depths of dudes 60+ feet away.

There was a play people were screaming about Hunt having the safety beat last week. Bro. Unless Hunt or Kelce have 10 feet of space to where it is unquestionable they are well beyond their man, they ain’t getting the ball on any kind of go route with their ’25 speed. Both those throws are varying degrees of BAIT by DBs who know they can absolutely toast the receiver in a straight line to the ball.

  27. People forget how slow Kelce is. The ONLY way he would be open by the time the ball got to him is if Mahomes threw it before he started the break on his deep cross. Those defenders 100% would have caught up to Kelce before the ball got to him because Mahomes would have needed to throw it with a lot of air on it to avoid it being undercut.

  28. Maybe, but there were two defenders trailing. If that pass is not perfect that’s an interception. Likely just a risk/reward decision.

  29. Mahomes – Correctly reads the defense and makes an easy pass for a first down
This Sub – Mahomes doesn’t trust anyone or himself

  30. Why does this account keep just ripping off people’s tweets without giving credit? Literally word for word. It’s in the sub rules, you have to give credit.

  31. Last game, Romo said he’s going through his progression too quickly, causing him to not see open receivers.

Romo is usually correct. If he’s right, then I think 15 is trying to do too much, pressing. Instead of letting the game come to him.

  32. I’m just going to say it, and maybe I’ll get flamed. Mahomes was never the most accurate deep throw, touch pass kinda QB. Yeah, he can fucking sling it, but it was never like watching Herbert or Stafford. Those guys have amazing placement on their deep balls. Mahomes was fuck-it-chuck-it and league of zoom will catch up to it. In fact, many times he was under throwing deep balls during that era and Tyreek would have to track it in the air and come back to it.

Long story short, I don’t think accuracy was ever his strong suit. He was and is great at getting the matchup and making the right throw if not the perfect throw. He should and will get better with these guys but I wouldn’t ever expect him to be the best or even top three deep ball guy in the league. That my opinion, now come fuck me for it Chief’s Kingdom.
