[Lyons] President of Baseball Operations Paul DePodesta on hiring Warren Schaeffer as the #Rockies manager: “He has established strong relationships with our players, understands the culture of this franchise and embodies the energy and work ethic we want on and off the field.”

The culture? Like losing?
Unsurprised, but not entirely pessimistic I guess 🤷🏻♂️ we weren’t going to go out and get Dave Roberts so keeping the manager in place for at least one year while you (hopefully lol) build out the staff around that person does not annoy me terribly. Provided they follow through on building out the staff and roster…
aka he’s a lame duck, this isn’t a one year fix, and it doesn’t make sense to bring in someone new when you can’t properly evaluate them by putting them in an immediate losing position
Pardon my French but what in the fuck is the culture od this franchise beyond anything other than losing and mediocrity
This isn’t going to be fixed in a year. Stick with a manager that the team likes, build out the talent and then hopefully we get to the point where we can evaluate our manager instead of the 80 other holes in the organization
As people have already pointed out, “culture” was a terrible choice of a word for a generic statement of support.
Better to do this than throwing a bunch of money at a manager when it’s a triple A roster
I’m actually okay with this. It’d be a waste to go out and get a “good” candidate so early in the rebuild. This is likely a 100+ loss team again. Might as well give Schaeffer a real crack at it. If he wants the job, that might be his best qualification.
I think even casual fans “understand the culture of the franchise” by now lol. Not sure how that’s a qualifying trait.
If he understands the culture of the franchise and hasn’t resigned in shame or taken his own life, I don’t think he’s my first pick as a fan. What the franchise wants and what fans want seem to be diametrically at opposition.
Would love for someone to press and ask to identify what the culture means.
